I do believe that Maggie has saved my quality of life! This is no exaggeration at all. I moved to this side of town about 4 years ago. My 14+ Shih tzu has been politely banned from a handful of groomers. Including one shop where I was buying her raw food. She is not an aggressive dog, just a very verbal drama queen. Each time I've taken her to a new groomer, it would be worse. I came to the point where she would not let me do much beyond a bath. Then while walking her, I met a woman with another Shih tzu. She told me about Magic Maggie. Rightio, I thought. My little girl will really test her magic. I was at the point where every day was a challenge, I would wake up and first thing try to clean her eyes. No go. She was matted etc. I brought her in. Brianna did the intake , and she was lovely. I met Maggie briefly and we discussed the issues. I left. Not sure of the outcome. Been there done that. OMG! Maggie was able to do a full grooming! ( I have picked her up where only one leg and face was done lol and the groomer gave up) My girl looked amazing. Great cut! I was truly blindsided in a good way. Maggie is Magic. I've been taking my dogs to Westside Pet Stop for 20+ years and with all the choices in my neighborhood I wouldn't go anywhere else! I've had 6 different dogs during the years and all different breeds....Maggie has known exactly how to groom each one perfectly. She is so gentle and genuinely loves what she does and that is very important to me because I know my dogs will be treated with kindness. All of my dogs 'run' into the store and practically right into Maggie's arms....that says a lot!! I can't speak about the grooming portion of their store, but the retail selection and service is not great. Of course this isn't their core business and the grooming keeps people coming back for more, so feel free to handicap my review if you're in for grooming. Me personally, I'd either find a cheaper option for grooming or a cleaner/ option. I wouldn't recommend. Had an afternoon to kill around here and saw this store, so figured why not? Wasn't greeted upon entering, but perused the store and then was asked by a man if I needed help with anything in a no nonsense way as if he was making sure I didn't steal anything. I guess I can understand since I didn't have a dog with me to be groomed. I told him "no, I'm just looking" and he returned to his corner of the store. Asked about his grooming service, told him about my dogs, and he quoted me a price of $55 per dog. I think that's a little higher than others in the area where I usually get quoted $45 per dog. Asked about Maggie (the owner), but he said she wasn't there. Asked him about the store and how long he's been in business. Even though he wasn't busy, he didn't seem to like small talk, so I just let him be. They have a few pictures of celebrities on their walls, but I don't really consider that a good thing. There are the basic retail items here, but nothing that you would really want or need. Typical for a grooming shop. The shop is crammed with a lot of items though and not really made for shopping. I peeked into the back of the grooming area and it seemed pretty standard for your basic pet grooming shop. Nothing fancy and the space looked very cramped. I didn't get any special feelings they might have for dogs and it's a business as usual kind of place. I wouldn't recommend a visit to this store. Even if you live in the area, check out Kirby's Pet Depot across the street and then make your own decision. read more

I brought my 2 dogs here last weekend for the first time, based on a great recommendation from a friend. Maggie was wonderful with my dogs and I LOVE both of their haircuts, which hasn't been the case with the last few groomers. I've been going to Healthy Spot for the last few years. Unfortunately it has turned into an overcrowded machine there. Lacks a personal touch, takes too long (and cages your dog for hours) and charges too much for the service they provide. Westside Pet Shop is the exact opposite. Maggie makes you feel like your dogs are her only priority and she is caring and warm with them. Her pricing is fair and her staff are great. And most importantly my dogs are happy and they look awfully cute with their new haircuts! read more

The people here are so wonderful! Maggie does a great cut on my dog, especially after the disaster that was our attempt at grooming with Petco. She cleaned up their mess and made my poodle terrier look better than before! Her helpers are so nice and really take their time with my dog so that she feels comfortable the whole time. She's there for hours, I really appreciate that they don't rush, which is how Petco cut my dog. The prices are the best deal in town. I am so glad I found Maggie for my grooming needs! read more

I brought my sweet sensitive boy to Westside last month and I loved the haircut Maggie gave him. I had warned her that he doesn't like baths and he especially doesn't like anyone brushing his curls. She told me he had been a very good boy when I picked him up later. The last groomer put a muzzle on him so who do you think I like best?! I'm bringing him back there soon. They did a great job on my dog's haircut last week. Did exactly what we asked them to do and trimmed and buffed his nails. They also are less expensive than our prior groomer and did a better job. (We used to go to TLC Pet Spa but they cut my poor dog's nail too short, he was bleeding, and they didn't try to stop it or tell me about it. He was very traumatized and even when they didn't cut him, they left his nails ragged.) Glad we found a new spot! read more

Maggie has groomed my 11 year old Pomeranian since he was about 4 years old. She gives him his signature "lion cut" which is the best I've ever seen. I get stopped all the time when I'm walking him, told how great his cut is and asked where he gets groomed. Beamer loves Maggie and gets excited when we are close to her shop. We have been taking our Standard Poodles here for a couple of years now. They always do an excellent job. They are a friendly family-like business and have very reasonable prices. I have been bringing my miniature dachshund Billie there to Maggie since she was one year old. Maggie is always so kind to Billie and Maggie provides the best grooming for Billie she has ever had. I have taken over the years my dog to every grooming shop on the Westside as nothing is too good for my dog, who is my baby. But no one compares to the complete care that Maggie consistently provides. Billie needs to be not just be bathed but moisturized as he skin gets dry and itchy, her nails always need cutting, and her anal glands need to be expressed. These may sound like typical requests but when I have brought Billie to other groomers, it has been a nightmare. They rush when I am not looking and one of her nails had to be removed because they were not cut properly and she got an infection. Expressing Billie's anal glands are never done correctly unless I bring her to Maggie or the vet. Maggie is a pro and takes the proper time and care to always do an excellent job. She is an expert at her job and that is why Billie loves her. That is also why I would never think of going to anyone else. Maggie is a lovely person on top of that and a pleasure to work with. I recommend Westside Pet Shop with the highest rating possible! Thank you Maggie for 10 plus years of taking such great care of my little girl! read more

My dog has been groomed at almost every establishment in the area, and Maggie is a referral from a neighbor whose cockerpoo ALWAYS looks great. I took my Shih Tzu and my red tabby Persian for clips last month. Was I impressed with the shop or the atmosphere? No. But I was impressed with Maggie and her staff, and my two furries came home looking like they could compete in a pet show! The lion cut on my precious 18-year-old cat had him acting like a kitten again, and my Shih Tzu baby girl looked like she was the belle of the ball. I am making follow-up appointments today, and I can get BOTH furries clipped for what I used to pay for one of them at all the other local groomers. I brought my miniature poodle in for grooming and Maggie was able to fit me in the same day that I called. I was extremely impressed with Maggie's professionalism and consideration. My pup received a full grooming service (bath, trim, ears, anal glands, teeth, nails, blow dry, brush) for only $40 - the best deal I've found in LA. My pup looked absolutely beautiful when I picked her up. Maggie was able to meet my needs precisely, and she even took extra time to play with her until she was happy and comfortable. I've been taking me do to Maggie for a couple of years and she always does a great job. My dog doesn't love going to the groomer, in fact when we get close to the shop, she refuses to walk, but when Maggie picks her up, her tale starts wagging. I went to the store and it was small and nice. They groomed my dog and were pleasant to deal with and were helpfull. Maggie was really nice, and the other girl really knew about dogs as we were talking. I will be going back as I was happy with the results when I got my dog back later that afternoon. My wife took our German Shepard dog there for a basic grooming. The price we paid was less than we were quoted on the phone which was nice and lets you know that they are honest. Once they saw the work it would take the price was lower. Our dog came back smelling nice and was well brushed out. It was by appointment which was great so our dog did not have to sit in a cage until it was his time. They also called us when he was done and dry so he did not have again sit in a cage which I greatly appreciate. We will definitely be going back. read more

I am extremely upset and disappointed with everything about this store. I have an American Eskimo dog which is a double coated fur dog. He cannot be shaved with an electric buzzer or else his coat will never grow back the same. The owner of the store ignored me saying that he shouldn't be cut with a buzzer and went ahead and just shaved him entirely. I wanted a short haircut and she took off everything. Not only that, his haircut is uneven everywhere. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement and I swear I lost sleep because of how scared I am that his fur will not grow back the same. There was dog hair all over the floor of this tiny run down place and I saw cages in the back where she keeps her animals. Along with the parrot screaming in the background this is an unenjoyable experience and it smells bad too. I would rather pay $40 more to take my dog to Rockstar Rover or Pussy and Pooch as I know he will be understood for his breed. Never again. read more

I went back for a second grooming for my dog. Maggie was nice enough, but I noticed that the shop smelled so very much.......a ton of wet dog hair was all over the floor.....I picked up my dog and was pleased with her haircut, BUT, after walking just a few steps, my dog sat down. She was NOT the same. She continued to walk to my car after a few prompts. I didn't call Maggie right away and waited a few days to see her behavior. It was still not good. She had a difficult time walking. After a week-I called Maggie and left her a message. "Did anything happen during the grooming?" I immediately thought of the glands. I wasn't blaming Maggie-but just wanted to know if anything happened. It is now 2 weeks-and I have NEVER received a call back from Maggie-the owner. Thus- I feel compelled to write this review. This is unprofessional -and I will NOT be back.......don't turn your back on a customer if things are not correct. BTW-when checking for the problem-I also noticed a minor cut on my dog's stomach....My first review was very favorable (although her staff does need some etiquette training)-But now I cannot come back to this shop...... At least call me back!!! read more

I have been going to Maggie at Westside Pet Shop since the early 90's or late 80's. I got tired of having to drive my dogs and decided to check her out back then. One of my dogs was difficult I was told so my other two went here. One day I was talking to Maggie and she suggested I bring the one I thought was the problem dog at groomers,to her as well. I haven't been anywhere since. She is now grooming dogs (as I type I waiting to pick them up) that of the 3, two she has been grooming since 2003 and the 3rd since 2014. This is my second set of dogs. The other passed away in 2002 and 2003 at ages 17. I won't go anywhere else. The dogs look great smell great and I don't have to tell Maggie what to do, she just knows. They always look so cute when I pick them up. 2 are fluffy's one is a short haired dog. It is a small shop, the grooming area could be a little less gloomy but the dogs are well taken care of look cute and Maggie is reasonable with her prices. She does a lot of the dog in my neighborhood I have discovered when walking my dogs and talking about groomers. read more

I can't believe the bad reviews. We have been going here for grooming for over 25 years. Maggie is great, she is caring friendly helpful and adores my dogs (we have had quite a few over the years). We first went here years ago because they were close, we could walk. We liked the family right away and at the time we had 2 or 3 dogs. One of them was difficult around strangers and we took her elsewhere but Maggie said just give me a try with Heidi she will be fine and she was. We also like the fact that the store is independently owned and in our neighborhood. We have several choices of where to take our pets for grooming, once we met Maggie all those years ago and she was able to do Heidi along with our other dogs we haven't and won't go elsewhere. I highly recommend Westside Pet Shop. They are very caring and loving toward our dogs and give great grooming services. In fact I am going in an hour to pick our two up from WPS. read more
