Westside Stone's job where tiles did not dry correctly, were laid uneven, chipped, broken and wrong grout.

Although the other reviews are all 5 star, our experience was extemely disappointing resulting in months of frustration. The technical installations were inferior and the owner never followed through. I don't think a single time that Jim said he would call or do something, he actually did. We filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau and Jim never responded. In or around September 2019 we hired Westside Stone to install bathroom 12x12 Carrera marble floor tiles as part of a partial bathroom remodel. In February 2020 we noticed that many tiles were cracked. Due to Covid and lack of available tile installers Westide Stone finally replaced the tiles in late July. Henry Valerio, the operation and project manager stated that the tile was installed incorrectly (the underlying board seams were not prepared properly) resulting in the tile cracking along the seam lines of the underlying board. We sourced new tiles that matched the existing tiles in size, style, and color. Westside Stone installed the new tiles using an under mesh designed to decrease the potential for cracking. The tiles were grouted immediately after installation and sealed several days later while the tiles were still wet and discolored. Also, the installer caused numerous chips, used wrong color grout and laid the tiles unevenly. When the tiles did not change back to their original color we asked Jim Houman, Founder and General Manager to come out to look at the job. He asked us to wait until the end of August and if we were still unhappy his company would source new tiles and replace them. Jim was unable to source matching tile. Once we sourced a matching tile and contacted Jim to arrange replacement, he communicated that he would identify an installer and get back to us with the amount we would need to pay for instillation. When we told him we thought he was paying for the replacement he asked, "How much money do you want me to lose on the job'" We then obtained an installer to complete the job. When this installer lifted the tile, the board under was still wet. A black gel liner with white cloth had been laid under the tile and prevented it from drying and retuning to its original color. Our installer said this product should have never been used under white marble. The pictures document the poor workmanship, Westside Stone's job and our final outcome with a different installer.

I was looking to get some glass tile repaired in my Master Bathroom. It was a small job. I sent out…read morea request on Yelp and got quite a few replies. Unfortunately, of all the responses, only two were interested - mainly because of the tile being glass. One company came out and looked at the prospective work and DTLA wanted some pictures and specifics via text and or email. Both company's bids were the same. I sent messages to both to discuss the job further. DTLA responded, and the other one - blew me off! So I spoke with Bill at DTLA Tile. He explained a lot of information about the glass tile, and the possible reasons for the cracking. We worked out the details and set the dates for the repairs - which were planned for one and a half days. On the first day, I overheard the tile technician (Alesandro?) talking to Bill on the speaker phone speaking Spanish. (I speak a little - enough to get by when necessary) He was discussing the difficulty of the work, and Bill replied that there was a "contracto" and they had to honor it. Alesandro worked all day chipping away at the glass tiles removing them. It's a very slow process with glass and makes quite a mess. He was always wearing proper protective gear to prevent injury. Had to make a Home Depot Trip for supplies. He got all of the tiles removed on the first day and on the second day began cutting tiles - when he discovered that he was going to need the wet saw to make the proper cuts on these tiles. He left and came back shortly with a saw and proceeded to cut and install more tiles. At the end of the second FULL day of work - the tiles were installed and he would be back the next day for grouting. We found a couple of MINOR issues that we wanted to have modified. One - meant removing and replacing a tile. But they gladly did that and even made another Home Depot Trip to get some Grout/Caulk to finish up the job. Alesandro left in the early afternoon of the third day. The job had taken almost twice as long due to the complexity of the glass tile. But the price was the same as agreed upon in the "contract." Bill contacted me a day or two later wanting to stop by to pick up payment due, and to inspect the final job. He came in and took pictures of the work and we had a nice conversation about the project and he was complimentary of some of the work that had been done in our house. I had some questions about some other things and he gave me a couple of referrals. This is a GREAT Company to deal with. They EXCEEDED my expectationsI highly recommend DTLA Tile and Stone. They are licensed (this is very important -- we had a very bad experience hiring a different contractor earlier this year who cheated by saying he has a license but in fact not, and that contractor scammed our money and never came back to complete the kitchen remodel for us --- that's when we had to look for a new contractor and fortunately we found Annie and Robert.) Annie and Robert came and measured our kitchen and provided computer generated sketches for us to approve. Their on-site installation crew are also fantastic. Chris and Alejandro demonstrated experiences and skills throughout the whole installation process. They are also detail oriented. They acted professionally with courtesy. Overall this is an honest business with great professional crew and it's a pleasure to work with them. Highly recommended.

Although they were booked for a few weeks, the wait was absolutely worth it. The team was professional, experienced, and truly thoughtful in their craftsmanship. I chose an inexpensive tile but thanks to their skill it looks great!
