Chances are, they'll have what you want, and they'll take the time to really talk over any problems you are having (so unusual!) Do you know what a headache it is trying to find a Marine Stainless Steel 3/8 - 16 X 2.5" Flat Head Machine Screw at West Marine? I'm sure they have them - but the way their fasteners are organized will make your eyes cross & then your head will spin (just like in the film Exorcist)... then you'll just break down and cry. Save yourself the stress, confusion & drama - just go here! They also have all the paints, patch stuff, cleaners, etc. They have some great hardware from brands like Harken, Garhauer, Spinlock, etc. They have a limited but nice selection of Jackets, Float Coats, Life Preservers, Boating boots/shoes (nice Gill Yachting Boots!). This hardware store is the BEST. I was remodeling a house in Richmond and every time I needed something from stain to sandpaper to special sized screws to 2 by fours they had it all. The owner seemed to know everything about how to use all the different things he had in the store. I was truly amazed at how such a small store could contain practically anything someone would want in a hardware store and at the same time have staff who actually knew what it was for and how to use it. . They are not as cheap as a big chain store like Home Depot but the level of service and knowledge about their products makes a first choice for me every time. We were working on our boat in a nearby boatyard within walking distance of Whale Point, and they had everything we needed- the right size screws, bolts, parts, tools, etc, and the rare time they didn't have what we needed, they were able to order and get delivery within a day or so. We loved their GREAT prices (so much better than the pricey marine store down the street) and Lou and his staff couldn't have been more helpful, knowledgable and attentive. Go here instead of West Marine. They have a decent selection of marine stuff as well as normal hardware store items. MUCH better if looking for bronze fasteners or people who have a clue about anything. One funny thing. Often if you have to order something, they get it through West Marine's wholesale branch and the price is usually better than it is at a WM store. read more

Gah! This place is my church! Living on my sailboat, you need boat stuff from time to time, or some denatured alcohol to run my stove. Sometimes you need general hardware or tools. Sometimes you bring in a screw, spend five minutes at the bank of screws/bolts/nuts drawers, and you come away with the exact thing you needed for less than fifty cents. Lou's people are all sharp. Ask them anything and they'll work it out until you both agree that the problem is solved. If this business goes away I'll be completely boned. Its kinda cute how West Marine is just down the street, but their prices are wacky. If you own an ascot this won't bother you and...yeah...stay out of my church. read more

This place is a lifesaver, if you're looking for random fittings nails Pults pain or anything else that you may need on the fly this is the place for you. All of the guys that work there are very helpful and as long as you are courteous and polite he will get the same in return. A "marine & hardware" store was exactly what I needed. While it is fun to look at a giant stand-up display for a $3000 radar system at the other place in the neighborhood, they have about 12 fuel filters, and Whale Point has a hundred. Similar for tubing, chemicals, throttle linkages, connectors, fasteners, cleats, pad eyes, etc, etc. Less electronics, but selections of things like bilge pumps are large and full of quality products marked below retail instead of house-brand knock-offs.
