Whalebird Kombucha is the latest kombucha business we have given a try with and we enjoyed the three different flavors we had fairly well! The Berry Fizz was one that we had. I am often reluctant with berry flavors and wonder how sweet it's going to be. Sometimes it's just too much. But this one wasn't bad at all and the sweetness was subtle and none of it was overpowering so that was a good experience! Another Kombucha was the Stawberry Limemade. Another berry oriented flavor again but with strawberry I can usually roll with that pretty well in most cases. But with the lime at play it too was subtle, pleasant and refreshing to have with those two primary flavors playing off of each other. The third and final one was the Pink Grapefruit. Absolutely no worry with this one on being too sugary since Grapefruit is the opposite but it too was well balanced, well flavored and not too bitter. Very good experience with this Kombucha place and I will be on the lookout for other engaging flavors in the future by them! read more

Simply put: My all-time favorite kombucha brand, call me a stan. I've been drinking Whalebird for a while now and love the product first and foremost, but also love the branding on the cans, the logo, and the people I interacted with all the time at the little taproom they had in SLO. I put a couple of people onto Whalebird and they love the booch as well. My go-to is the Lavender Lemonade for classic kombucha and the Island POG for the alcoholic variants. Also really enjoyed their new LITE line they released. Sadly, I recently went to their taproom recently and they had to close down I'll still support via the web! Super easy since refills are all over--Whole Foods, Seeds, Spark Yoga. I've recently seen Verve coffee carry it up here in the Bay Area which makes me happy. The taste of Whalebird is amazing; fizzy, no weird strands floating, and full of flavor. My favorites are pamplemousse and ginger. I finally got to visit the brick and mortar last week. The worker (didn't catch her name) was super friendly and gave us a tasting of all the kombucha on the menu. Loved the seasonal batch of strawberry damiana. Heard they're releasing hard booch. While we haven't had the pleasure of visiting their taproom -- but that will happen! -- we've picked up numerous cans and flavors around town. Whalebird is fresh, crisp and refreshing, and it's easy to see why you find it all over the Central Coast. While each flavor is unique and distinctive, we've taken a real liking to the Lavender Lemonade and decided to place our first online order for 16 cans. Wouldn't you know? The order arrived the next day, smartly packed -- no styrofoam or waste; just die-cut cardboard (that can be recycled) to separate and protect the cans. After buying some at a local pizza place I was surprised to find local this place was. After we went to the beer brewer we came here. This place is nothing like one of those giant beer breweries. When you walk in, look left and you can see where they brew. This place is more like a bar. You walk in and the bar is right there. Their are taps against the wall and a tiny college fridge behind you. I think they had 8 on tap. I tried all of the flavors and came up with my 2 favorite. I got the Lavender Lemonade and Manguava. I have to admit, after you try them all, they taste very similar. You can no longer taste the lavender or guava. When I was in the pizza place I tried theParadise Peach I really liked it too. It wasn't on tap or available for sales. If you like Kombucha or you want to give it a try, this is a must visit. There aren't many Kombucha breweries I know of in where I live or vacation. Manguava was the one who introduced me to the kombucha scene and it's delicious! My office had Manguava on tap and I decided to try it one day. The sourness takes a little getting used to, but it was sweet and refreshing! Bonus points because I had heard of all the benefits of kombucha. Sadly, my office got a new vendor so we no longer have Whalebird, but I was on a road trip down to LA and basically made a pitstop just to come here! The place is really small, so it's more of a grab and go. We got 2 growlers of their kombucha because it was so cheap! Around $8 for a fill, compared to $4 for a small size at grocery stores. I would've loved to join their monthly club, but alas making the road trip a monthly thing isn't quite feasible. Definitely try the Manguava if you have any doubts about kombucha. I think Whalebird is one of the most underrated beverage companies in all of SLO county. First off, their kombucha is delicious and smooth. Sometimes I find kombucha to be a bit too acid and that is not the case for Whalebird. It is the perfect balance of sweet and refreshing. Secondly, whoever is in charge of their flavor creation is ABSOLUTELY KILLING IT!! They have everything from grapefruit to CBD to Yerba Mate kombucha. I am not exaggerating when I say that there is a flavor for everyone. Lastly, their kombucha club is one of my favorite club memberships in all of the SLO county. If you live locally, you can join by purchasing one of their growlers and get it refilled in their tasting room. We are big fans of kombucha and have to try the local kombucha wherever we go. Maddie took us through the tasting and introduced us to all the creative flavors: ginger vanilla to jasmine, mango and grapefruit. The flavors are unique without a sugary taste (or lots of added sugar). The swirling art work on the cans is lovely too. We walked away with several cans of kombucha and a candle (made from recycled kombucha bottles!). Loved this whimsical, one of a kind brand! Thanks Maddie! Awesome place hidden among many auto body shops and business offices. Most of the space of this facility is dedicated to the actual brewing process, leaving only essentially a small bench for the retail side. They offer cheap $8 growler fills (or $11 for purchase of a new growler) and we were able to try the new brews that the employees experimented with. We left with a growler of Manguava and Que Sera Syrah and were quite satisfied with our purchase. read more

It was a great family trip to Paso Robles. We knew this Kombucha factory through a friend. It is a fermented, lightly effervescent tea which brings health benefits. They were so friendly attending us and patiencely introducing the flavors they had and answering to our questions. I've converted many people from kombucha haters to lovers with their specialty flavors. My favorites are jasmine, lavender lemonade, and their new manguava! I can't say enough good things about this place!!! I joined the kombucha club and I'm so glad I did! The price is right, there are sooo many good flavors, and everyone who works there is so friendly! This sounds crazy I know, but I've been drinking it for about 3 weeks now and I feel HAPPIER in addition to feeling HEALTHIER! Does it get any better than that?! My favorites are manguava, pamplemousse, and lavender lemonade! Also- pro tip: you can fill up any growler so I bring in my beer growlers and hydro flask to get filled which is super convenient and awesome that they let you do that!! I credit these guys with turning me on to kombucha in the first place. I tried theirs first and loved it. So now all other kombucha is measured against theirs. I usually drink it at Blast 825 as they have it on tap there. I did stop by the brewery the other day and despite it being a smaller spot tucked away I got to try a bunch of their flavors. I have been drinking Kombucha for years now. I have always had the popular brands like GT or other popular ones sold at Whole Foods and other health food stores. Ever since trying (then Komplete, now Whalebird) no other Kombucha has been able to compare. Jasmine Bliss is by far my favorite. I am sad they don't distribute in the Bay Area, but every time I am in Central Coast, I make sure to pick up a growler. Last time I drove through, it was at the San Luis Obispo Whole Foods on tap! Not from the area but found Whalebird at whole foods. It was love at first taste! We had planned a trip and I wanted to try and get in and learn how how they get their kombucha to stay fizzy. Which is what I like in my kombucha. I had to make a appointment because the hours they are open I would not be in town. These guys were super nice and very informative about their brewing process. It felt like we were chillin in their house. We started out with samples and we each were given a glass for our tour. During the tour they showed us how they brew and get it into the kegs. They let us fill out bottles we brought plus we had to buy some bottles too. We leave in Orange County and we did not want to run out of Whalebird so we stocked up. Before we left they showed us places around town you can take your growler to be filled. Needless to say we will have our friends fill up a growler to bring it down to us.
