This was our first time at Shake Shack. I have a friend who raves about it. So once one went in Newport News in my area, we decided to check it out after shopping at Costco parking was easy as there is a nice lot in the front and if it's ever too packed, you can go towards the back. Once we walked in, we were greeted with a clean establishment. There was 6 to 8 electronic devices where you could order your own food or you could go to the counter. We opted for the electronic device. Using the device, it was actually pretty easy and user-friendly. There was a staff member, Ayla who walked around picking up and trash from our table and kept things clear. The staff were kind and helpful. We waited about five minutes for our food, which I felt was a decent amount of time to wait for the type of order we had. I opted for the chicken shack. It was perfect! The chicken cut was the perfect thickness. The herb mayo really made the sandwich. Way better than a standard mayo. I loved it! This place is a disaster. The waits are long even when the restaurant is empty, and your food will sit behind the counter getting cold while the online‑order shelves stay empty. Nobody calls out names, nobody checks bags, and the staff mostly just ignore you. It works like this: You place your order at a kiosk, take your number, drink at the drink station, and head to your table. This is a "have-it-your-way" place, so don't forget to order your extras at the kiosk. The place's decor is beautiful, and the seating is spacious, well-lit, and large. The parking lot is a little tricky to get into, but once you're parked, prepare yourself for a really good burger experience! We ate at one of the tables and service was friendly and courteous. A couple of managers stopped by our table to either ask us if we wanted water or napkins, or to ask how our experience was. (It was great!) The menu is fairly limited with burgers, chicken sandwiches, a hot dog or grilled cheese. French fries, shakes and soda rounded out the selections. We all opted for burgers, shakes and fries. It was a little higher priced than I expected to pay but the food really was very good. We are already planning when we can go back. When we left, the line was out the door and down the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. Go early if you can. Shake Shack I finally visited our newly opened Shake Shack in Newport News with excitement and anticipation of something great to experience. Oh dear.....was I ever so very disappointed and disillusioned! No "Personality" or welcoming Atmosphere whatsoever, which both usually are being achieved by some kind of warm Decor and overall dining room Design and Structure! Nope not at Shake Shack! To make things even a little bit worse, their prices are utterly OUTRAGEOUS for the size of their Hamburger Patties and Buns they rest on. The amount of Fries served was just borderline acceptable in that little paper tray they give you. I ordered the Truffle Parmesan Fries and I really should have taken a picture since there hardly was a Trace of Parmesan at all. So disappointing! I also had their Truffle Burger and a Strawberry Lemonade which was alright. The size of their Burgers is shockingly SMALL/TINY/WHIMPY/SKIMPY or whatever your preferred description might be. Taste wise things kind of checked out...as I said lack of Parmesan on the Fries and the taste of the Truffle Burger was alright. Overall I don't feel a strong urge to revisit Shacke Shack, ANY Shake Shack for that matter.
