Everyone here is focused on their own workout and the community that comes here is friendly, and do clean their workout areas which I appreciate. Staff are kind. I've spilled drinks before by accident.. a bit inconvenient because I was given a roll of paper to clean up myself. I acknowledge I made a mistake but I felt so awkward trying to clean it up myself when a mop could've done the job faster. No one came to check if it was a small or big spill. Otherwise, it was a good place to have a basic workout. Trainers are helpful but I don't know about the staff at the counter who don't leave their post, hence the lack of support for spills. They have a female workout section and they put up signs when male cleaners are the women's bathroom or workout areas which. They have two changing rooms, shower rooms, and a dry sauna room. Their bathrooms are always clean.

I've been a member here a while now. I like this gym because of the variety of equipment. It has…read morethings like squat racks, belt squat, and some hammer strength equipment that is hard to come by in commerical gyms. They also have a good number of cable machines. That's about where the good ends. It has taken a dive since the ownership change, but even before that it wasn't great. The place is filthy and dilapidated. The bathrooms are rarely clean or functional. One urinal is always out of commission and the other leaks. Toilets are never cleaned (there's been an orange Cheeto sitting next to the toilet for going on 12 months now). The equipment is generally okay, but some of it is in rough shape. Handles are missing or bars to the leg extension are extremely bent. A good portion of the cardio equipment is out of order. There's always a machine broken. They refused to fix a clip on the belt squat machine (and are still using a sub optimal clip today). Recently they've had several pieces of equipment out of commission for a while. On top of that, there's other safety issues that should be addressed; 1. The plate loaded preacher curl needs to be tightened. It's very loose and could cause injury 2. Most of the machines are not tacked to the floor. Meaning they'll move around on you if you start moving some heavier weights 3. Both leg extensions need to be fixed. The oldest one is so loose that it wobbles during the movement, causing horrible knee torque. The other is so bent that it also will cause knee torque. 4. Some of the cables and carabineers need to be fixed. The cables are fraying and the carabineers don't clip down, which is a huge injury risk. 5. The lack of paper towels in the bathrooms and floor means that people aren't washing their hands (have seen it every day I go, six days a week, for as long as I have gone) or wiping down equipment. This is a recipe for ring worm, and trust me, it will happen. 6. They need to update or get additional equipment. There's not enough to go around. Instead of catering to this boxing thing, investing in the fitness aspect would probably be advisable, since your main clientele and business is the fitness component. The conversion of the turf area into a boxing ring seems like a big miss. A lot of work and equipment went into a space that isn't utilized. It would have been better spent upgrading or fixing the current equipment (or making sure there paper towels to wipe machines down). Overall, this gym has become a miss for me. I only continue because of the people and lack of options, but it isn't ever a first choice for me anymore. Disappointing.

The gym blares loud, loud head banging music even early in the morning. I quit this gym in January and got a written receipt. I decided to cancel my credit card just in case. Thank god I did because the owner hasn't yet notified the billing company. I keep getting harassing calls to update my credit card. I try calling and can't get through the call screening program.

At the time, fitness coach Pat Sturdahl was who picked up the phone, and about six solid months later, Pat's still my coach. Their services touch on a variety of needs. They partner with Restore RI physical therapy (same building), so they can do corrective/rehabilitative work. They help people concentrate on specific regimens for individual sports. They can tailor workouts for any individual goal you have. They have several classes for different fitness levels. They even offer a firefighter exam course. I've seen people from teens to their 60s working out on their own programs. The facility offers a little bit of everything, from free weights to tension bands, and kettle bells to Assault AirBikes, all in a utilitarian facility - there's a little something for virtually anything you'd want to train. Bonus points that the music always seems to fit whatever's going on. Everyone I've met at Olympia has been friendly, but special shout-out to Pat, who is both laid-back and a highly capable teacher of form and function - he's been exceptional to work with. Olympia is is nestled back on Worthington Street, but well worth seeking out - highly recommended.
