The pizza was really good I personally love the thinner dough and the amount of sauce they use. The garlic knots I will say are strong! Just be aware if you are not a full garlic fan. What pushed me to rate What Up Dough 5 stars, instead of 4 is their Roman style pizza. It was even thicker than a Detroit or Sicilian style square, but much airier and it didn't tear up the roof of my mouth. If you've spend just a bit of time in the SoCal pizza scene, you start to see the same toppings and styles so, I can't stress enough how impressive it is to find something new. Strictly in terms of flavor, both The Hot Boy Roman square and CheeseMatic NY slice were great, but not life changing. I would say they're on par with similar pizza spots like Prince St., Prime, and Slice House. Something that did stand out to me on my first visit was the lack of options. Normally, this would be a negative, but it was a workday and I came in a little before 4pm. I saw this as a positive sign that they're keeping their pizzas fresh by only making enough for their lunch and dinner rushes. That being said, I am disappointed by the fact that you have to order a whole pizza if you want to try their Detroit style square. In addition, they seem to be on the pricier side, but I think the flavor and overall experience make What Up Dough a reliable pizza spot I would recommend to others. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and we finally found ourselves in the area and hungry for pizza. My husband and I ordered a cheese pizza and garlic knots. The knots were great. The dough was fluffy inside and crispy on the outside. Freshly baked and delicious. Shredded Parm on top and a red dipping sauce. Definitely needed more garlic flavor but still very good. Wish the sauce was at least room temp and not fridge cold, though. Our pizza was just okay, sadly. The dough was perfect. It was thin and crisp but floppy. 10/10. But the sauce to cheese ratio was iffy at best. I love a saucey pizza but this pizza could have benefited from more cheese. But even so, I think I just didn't really care for the sauce. I didn't love it as a dip for my garlic knots but was hopeful that it was just because it was served cold. But alas. Their sauce leans to more of a fresh tomato taste and not enough to a cooked sauce taste for me. My husband also said he got a chunk of raw garlic in one bite so that kind of proved my point on the undercooked sauce aspect. I can see how some people may like this type of sauce but it wasn't for me personally. A shame, because that dough is perfect. Alas. I love that they have different styles of pizza, we happen to come on a Tuesday and order their specialty of the day, which is only available on Tuesdays. We are in town visiting and stumbled on this place. I'm so glad we gave it a try! I have to say some of the best pizza I've ever had honestly. This is one of those few places where the service is just as great as the food. Felipe helped us out today and was such a great guy and even told us a little bit of history about the business. Solid place, great staff, the pizza is in the top three in the area. It might be the fishiest and possibly best. The parking, doesn't exist. The bathroom sort of doesn't exist either. My real problem with the place is that they charge a pizza staff fee or tax. It wouldn't be a problem but the pizza is already $30 plus. Not sure you need a bogus tax. Check your receipt before ordering. Online it doesn't give you an option. Does make you think twice. I have to say I like the place but hidden or random fees always leave a bad taste. I got the hot boy Roman, which for anyone wondering it's more of a Sicilian style than Roman I'd say but regardless it was incredible. Really flavorful sauce and great dough/crust. I had asked for lots of sauce and they put the perfect amount and while I was in there one of the guys acknowledged I asked for extra sauce which i appreciated since I don't feel like every place pays attention to notes. Read about this online, and thought it might be fun to try something new. My husband is a bit of a pizza fanatic, so was glad he was game too. It's pretty minimalist inside, a few tables (3 booths + a few tables) & a walk up counter. They have a case with pizza you can order by the slice, which they pull and heat up while you wait. While it's pretty much a self service restaurant, they do bring your food to your table if you dine in, which is a nice touch. Wish they had pepper flakes & dried oregano on the tables, but it is what it is. They offer fountain sodas, Mexican coke and bottled water to drink - no alcohol. We ordered a couple of slices, garlic knots, and a pizza to go. Where they really lost me, and a few stars, was on their customer service - or really lack thereof! We placed our order, and we were not given an itemized receipt and had to ask multiple times for one....maybe it's because of the 4% credit card processing fee they charge you, which they don't tell you about AND is not posted anywhere. I get it, businesses need to cover their expenses, but we dropped almost $60 for food AND added a tip, it would be nice to be told! The pizza was decent, not my favorite and not my husbands either. Walking in without being greeted. Yup. Slices on the shelf that look completely unappetizing due to being out for a while. Yup. Okay, but is the food good? I love pizza and I skipped over Prime to come over here after seeing a pizza podcast and the passion the owner has for pizza. The owner wasn't there however. I pay for two slices, the cheese and the white pizza that had different cheeses. I ask if they are making fresh slices and the cashier said yes but it will take around 15 minutes. No problem. I leave and go to Porto's. I come back later and notice my pizza slices are sitting out on a tray completely unattended. Place is empty mind you. I rather have them warm it up when I walk in then have flies sit on it, but oh well, if the pizza is good then who cares right? I get my slices, take the first bite, and it's...mediocre? The cheese slice is forgettable and the undercarriage was nonexistent. The sauce wasn't "wow" and I was shocked that it was not good. The white pizza also was bland and not good. Now I don't know if they gave me an old slice but that would be messed up as I waited for new slices, but the flavor just wasn't there. The New York style is really good. I'm a good distance away from Burbank, and UberEats consistently delivers the pizza lukewarm, limp, and partly soggy but even then, the chew and flavor of that crust is just sublime. For my palate, many New York style pizzas do not have enough cheese, and I am happy to report that there is noticeably more cheese on a What Up Dough pizza. I also gave the Detroit a try. I requested well done and it was perfectly crispy and crunchy, despite the long travel. Unfortunately, the crumb structure wasn't too impressive and neither was the taste profile of the crust. Although it was better than many of its nearby competitors, it is still not quite suited for my palate so I stuck to the NY style for my future orders. Currently there is a B1G1 promo on UberEats, which after fees/tips/etc make it par for the course as paying for 2 regular priced pizzas. Once this promo ends, so will my love affair with What Up Dough as the fees just wouldn't make sense. read more
