My friend and coworker, raised in Texas, has long yapped, at every opportunity, about his love for Whattaburger. I live in LA and this is the closest location and I just happen to be coming to the Phoenix area to hike, so it became my moment to finally try what my friend had long been raving about! We all have fondness for things we grew up with, so I really wasn't sure what to expect based on my friends reviews. My first thoughts were how clean and well kept everything was, the staff was very pleasant, the menu, simple, yet robust, which also includes breakfast in the early hours before 11am. I was thinking it would be another greasy spoon, like a Burger King, but it was more on the level of a Chick-fil-A because of how pleasant and excited the employees appeared, as well as, the care taken for every aspect of the business. The food was made-to-order, the portions were much larger than I expected, the ingredients were all high-end, and it was packaged with care. I had ordered two sandwiches because it was my first time, but apparently she sold me a third one that I didn't know about, but that was OK, since I wanted to try as much as I could. We've learned the hard way that you're risking a cold burger during non rush hours. Given that we love our freshly cooked Whataburgers. Service is mostly a miss. And it is always with kindness and a smile. The food here is off the chain here THE MEIXAN PATTY MELT IS THE BEST SANDWICH, my go to. It is so good and delicious, THERE HATCH GREEN CHILI CHEESE BURGER is also amazing. Any WHATABURGER sandwich is great, you won't be disappointed. ONION RINGS ARE FRIED TO PERFECTION, along with the fries are so tasty especially dipped in their spicy ketchup, yes spicy ketchup is what I said. Every time we are in Arizona, we always go to this location. The simple answer is because its the first one that we hit before we go to our destination. I'd heard of Whataburger for years and how great it is and this was my first visit. I stopped in with two other people who had never eaten there before and heard the same great things about it... Pros: The water was good, and the lettuce, onion, and tomatoes, all seemed pretty fresh. Cons: First the service was ok, but everyone one in my group had something wrong with their order. My burger was room temperature, you can't see in the pic but the cheese wasn't even melted. And it's very low quality meat, thin patty with bits of grizzle and little pieces of whole vein in it, this reminds me of a Burger King patty they're the same way; may even be the same supplier. I also ordered the chicken strips and they were the cheap frozen mechanically breaded hard crust chicken tenders that you get a lot of places these days more breading than chicken; actually probably 50/50 to be fair. Whataburger is my all time favorite fast food burger and I will always support this company but NOT this location and the reason why is the female manager Stephanie Castro, from yesterday, doesn't understand what good customer service is all about. They had my wife move from the drive through and park to wait for her order and 15 minutes went by and my wife had to go ask where her order was. Stephenie Castro told her, with an attitude, that they were busy and they lost the order. My wife asked how they could lose it when the order comes up on a screen and Stephanie Castro tells her "Well, we are busy and I guess they erased it", again with a very rude attitude. She never offered to make the order or refund the money. My wife finally told her she wanted her money back and Stephanie asked what card she used and my wife told she paid cash. After more attitude, she finally got her money back and went to another Whataburger location. Stephanie Castro should not be a manager or in the service business. We stopped in today ordered 2 number 5's one with onion one without, and a chicken strip meal. Had not been to Whataburger for years, probably 5-6 years. Got a coupon in a group of food related fliers in the mail, which included one for a ChiliCheese Burger (free) if you purchase a med. fries and a drink. Sounded good. Stopped by the Whataburger on Van Buren and Dysart, went inside to order. The place was packed with customers and there seemed to be an equal amount of staff busily cooking, bagging, prepping and taking orders. I gave the counter clerk my order and stood to wait for it. So much activity. After a few minutes I asked the counter worker if it was always this busy. He said they had just received a $3000 order and everyone was working hard to fill it. Can you imagine ordering $3000 work of burgers, fries, shakes, sodas and other fast food ? Luckily I got my order in less than 5 minutes and was out the door. At home I unwrapped my purchase. The burger was huge, two beef patties, cheese, chili, bacon and a sauce, all in all a very good burger. I could only eat half of it, saved the other half for later. The fries were good and the soda, was a soda. Without the coupon this would have set me back about $12. That is more than I would pay for a burger, especially one that I could not eat in one sitting. But with regard to quality and time spent in the getting of the food, it was very good.
