What is a foodie to do when they go out of town? Try something new right?! And what better place to try than the restaurant constantly ranked top 5 burger in the country? Thankfully my mom was up for the drive, otherwise I would be reviewing their breakfast. As luck would have it, we showed up for dinner. Looking at the menu, every hambuger looked like a bigger version of the last, so I immediately skipped over to the favorites menu. There were 2 that really caught my eye, and the other 2 looked meh to me, but still better than a burger. So I asked the girl behind the counter which she recommended(I really need to stop doing this), and she said she always gets the BBQ chicken strip sandwich. Ok, I'll go with your expertise. A few minutes later, and I'm munching on my burger. Initial impression, one strip was stacked on the other 3. Ok..maybe it has to have 4 strips, no matter what. I take out the top strip, eat it, and I can already tell I made a mistake. The chicken was on thedry and hard side. McDonald's has better chicken strips in my opinion. But the BBQ was great. I think a different BBQ sandwich would have been better. My childhood best friend saw my post and said, "the patty-melt is life." He's in New Orleans and and probably tried all the burgers. What I like about Whataburger is that you'll always, consistently, receive quality food. Never have I received luke-warm or hastily thrown together food. And that goes for this brand new location on Hwy. 280. They've been open for about five days and it didn't take long for this to become a busy spot. I came in at lunch thinking it would be a while before I got my food. Not so! I had just finished filling up my drink cup when a young man was walking around looking for me and my little numbered tag. Geeesh that was fast! Usually, a new spot still has to work out the kinks. But today, four days after opening, there are no signs of rookie jitters. So for consistency and quality food, I'm giving this a four. The order counter is directly in front of you as you walk through the door. From a design perspective I can see how that might get congested if the order lines become pretty long. But that wasn't the case today. Quick service. This location is a tad smaller than other locations, but certainly more than enough room. I'm happy to have Whataburger on this end of town since I normally have to go out of my way to go. This one is right down the street from where I work. The place was swarming with managers and other employees, making sure everyone was taken care of. They were all friendly, smiling and seemed happy to be there. Only issue is 280 traffic during lunch hour so plan according. It's a pain leaving the store because you are force to go right (see my TIP). But I'm sure it's great to have a 24 hour spot on this end of town that serves decent food. read more

Went to have breakfast at this location and walked in. Order was taken by a wonderful cashier who informed me inside was closed, but she would take my order. She then moved the trash can in front of the door and said no worries, they should have had door locked. Another employee came out and said "see that can, that means we are closed." Well, the can wasn't there when I walked in. Rude and condescending. Will not be back. Customer service has reached an all time low in our society. read more

Tonight my wife went in to inform them that a fish sandwich didn't have cheese as requested and they gave her a chicken sandwich, so then she had to wait longer. This place is supposed to be open 24 hours, but we came by around 9:00 on a Thursday, and there were clearly people "working" inside...but the line outside did not move for 20 minutes. There was an employee sitting in a booth where we could see her from the line outside. No one would answer the phone, and there were probably 15 cars waiting in the drive-thru lanes. There was a lot of hype about Whataburger, so I finally had to try it. We went around 9:30 P.M., so there was not any traffic in the drive thru. We ordered the Whataburger, very cliche. The service great and everyone was very polite. The only pitfall of Whataburger is truly their burger. It is very ordinary and lacking in taste. I could typically tolerate this of a fast food joint but considering the hype, I was expecting more. The burger had entirely too many onions and was kind of too big. The fries were good not the best. The decor was nice and considering the service, I can live with three star rating. However, I do not see myself making a second round here. read more

Drove into this whataburger at 1 am after traveling all day from the west coast. Short layovers and nothing open at ATL. I Hadn't eaten anything but chips. When I landed in BHM I thought "well at least the whataburger on 280 will be open" so I drive out of my way to get there. I was damn hungry. I let the car pulling into the parking lot at the same as me go ahead and I got in the drive through line. I sat there for about 15 minutes and didn't move but this whataburger is always like that and I had no other options so I waited. Just then one of the employees came out with a cone and placed it between me and the car in front of me. I opened the window and he said "There's just two of us so we can't take anymore orders". Now I am sympathetic to that for sure but no one was behind me. He decided that they just couldn't go on (AFTER they waited on the guy in front of me). There was no one behind me. He could have put it behind me since like I said there was no one behind me but no; they had to draw the line with me. I tried to tell him I was waiting for a while already and why not put it behind me but no. MY order would have been the one that broke the camels back. Why he didn't put the cone behind me I don't know. This is where I will pretend to not know why he took the car in front of me and not me. Well when they need my business they won't get it. 10am on a Sunday morning and the place is at a standstill. Just a routine, Sunday morning. Running a business is not that hard, go a couple of hundred yards up the street and talk to chick Fila and get a lesson on how to do this. Cars wrapped all the way around the building. I actually came inside to place my order. In the time I was there the drive through line moved one car. People were getting out of their vehicles to see what was wrong. Don't blame COVID, don't blame staffing. Where is the franchise owner? Is he proud of this? If you're fortunate enough to own a franchise, or several, you owe it to the brand to be better than this. Tonight was the second time I've visited this restaurant. I was very disappointed, like the first time. Drive thru service was slow. But the worst part is my food was subpar at best. My burger was cold and so were my fries. I had to heat up my food when I got home. Both the fries and burger tasted as if they had been sitting for a while. For the food quality alone, compared to other fast food joints with similar menu items, I really want to give this place a 4 star review. As far as fast food goes they really do set the standard for quality. I have been at this location twice now and both time I have modified one of the standard menu items. Both times orders cam out accurate as well as fresh. There's no heat lamp involved here. Fries were also fresh both times....nothing worse than a fresh burger and cold fries. Burgers are packed with ingredients and are very large. You will not leave here hungry! Now for the not so good. Service would range between 1 and 2 star. Now oddly enough this isn't based on how friendly the staff is. Don't get me wrong, they don't go out of their way to show how friendly they, but they don't do anything that is blatantly wrong either. The main issue is the wait associated with ordering your food. I was seriously questioning if they were waiting for the next batch of potatoes to grow so they could harvest/cut/fry the french fries. It doesn't seem to matter if you are the only person there or there is a crowd. Expect to wait. Saturday night at 1:00 am I was in the drive through for longer than 45 minutes. In that time frame they processed approximately 8 orders in front of me. No regard for anybodies time. There is no reason to have that long of a wait and you should let people know when they are placing there order that they are experiencing longer than normal wait times to process orders. If you have time on your hands and are craving a quality fast food burger it's hard to beat this place. If you are in a rush don't take a chance.....find someplace else to go. read more

As all Whataburger's, this place has great burgers. Did not expect to see one in Alabama. Being from Corpus Christi you see them on every corner and you always know what to expect. I guess the main reason for this review is not the friendly staff or the always great food , but without doubt this is the cleanest Whataburger I have very been in. Been driving for about 4 hours so my first stop was the restroom. It was spotless. Had soap, paper towels and even a baby changing table, for those dad's that help out. Went to order my food the staff was friendly and asked if we wanted any extras on our burgers as always As we we're sitting at our table we noticed a man wiping down all the window sills and cleaning tables. I spoke with the manager on the way out and told him how impressed I was with how clean the place was. Now don't get me wrong we have several in Corpus Christi,about 20. Most of them are clean but this placed outshined them all. We also know that some are not kept up at all. Here is to management. I've given this place many many many chances in the three years that I've lived off of the 280, and I've always been disappointed. Normal weight times for breakfast as beyond 20 minutes even if you're the only person in the drive-through. There's usually never more than one person working and if there is none of them are doing anything. Corporate needs to just go ahead and close this location and fire everybody here. The 3 stars of this place stem entirely from the food. Whataburger is unmatched as far as fast food burgers go (yes, that includes many tastings of In-and-Out). A good ole fashioned Whataburger with cheese and all the fixings are heaven to the taste buds. All that out of the way, this place doesn't get the remaining two stars because the service is garbage. I've been at least a dozen times since this location opened and there's nothing fast about this fast food. The employees at the front of the house and managers, although nice and friendly, are downright incompetent. If you're in a hurry, opt for one of the four places across the street with a drive-thru. If you've got a few minutes to wait in line and repeat your order to the employee several times, you will enjoy your food. Oh their breakfast is also delicious. This place was amazing the first two weeks it opened. However, today I went and ordered a whataburger with cheese and a chocolate shake. I received a burger barely wrapped, no cheese, and cold thrown in a bag and a vanilla shake. Unfortunately, I drove home before I checked my bag. If I had looked I would have gone inside and demanded it be fixed. This was a sorry excuse for a meal. Not to mention, while in the drive thru the guy handing me my food asked if I had two shakes or one and when I asked for ketchup, closed the window. I sat there for about a minute and when he opened it back up he asked, "What do you want?" I've only been through the drive thru so my review will be based on that. Drive thru is SLOW. And I mean glacial. Every single time it's taken over five minutes at the window. And this is at various times. Also beware, both drive thru lanes are not always open. I drove into one and ended up having to just drive off after a few minutes because nobody came on to take my order. I know someone was there because the other side was moving. I actually haven't been back since that happened. If the lane is closed put up a sign! I have a somewhat special order for breakfast... I get the honey butter chicken on an jalapeño cheddar biscuit. Seems simple, right? Wrong! More than once it's been on a plain biscuit. One time it was on the ticket as plain biscuit despite the fact that JALAPEÑO CHEDDAR BISCUIT was repeated at least three times because she kept omitting that part when she called back the order. The other times it was on the ticket correctly but not prepared correctly. All times they made it again when I complained but having to go back is just stupid.
