I like it. I like it a lot. A nice hearty burger and well worth the price that you are paying, it is reasonably priced . The burger looks like a sonic burger but with personality. I got the cheeseburger with two patties and that was too much food for me so my second visit, I ordered the single cheeseburger. My first visit they were very heavy handed with the onions. It was almost unbearable cause I was crunching on very acidic onions with every bite, but my second time visiting the onion amount was just right. When ordering at Wataburger, they don't add ketchup, you have to request it but the burger does come with standard mustard. I liked their spicy ketchup it was a nice touch to my cheeseburger. I fries were good, nothing to rant and rave over. I have visited the Independence, Missouri location a few months after the grand opening and it was a 20 minute wait in the drive thru (this was at 8pm). At the Leawood, Kansas location is was the grand opening weekend and it took me an hour and 15 minutes to get my food. I expect the next time I go to not be as lengthy of a wait. read more

I finally got to eat at Whataburger here (instead of out of town). I visited Whataburger at noon but there were only 4 cars in line. I immediately saw Dr. Pepper shake sign. Lol. Texans have been raving about Whataburger for as long as I can remember. With so many opening up in the area, today seemed like a day as good as any to finally see what all the hype is about. I went through the drive-thru for lunch and ordered a double cheeseburger with fries and a vanilla malt. I indeed do NOT see what the hype was about. The best thing I can say about this food is that it was edible. The burger was okay, fries were incredibly bland and not even well-salted, and the malt just tasted like artificial vanilla syrup. I honestly didn't even eat much of the fries or the shake. Just not worth it. They're open 24 hrs, so that's nice because we all know late night options are scarce in these parts. But even desperate and hungry at 1 am, I really can't see myself spending another penny here. read more

If you've been watching the local KC news, there's no way you could miss the opening of a second Whataburger in the KC area. I'm not one that normally flocks to a new place on opening day, but I found myself having new tires installed at Costco and with the new Whataburger just a 1/4 mile walk away, well, you know where this is going. Thankfully I didn't have to mess with parking since I walked but there were probably 30 cars in the drive through which blocked most of the actual parking lot. There was a security guard directing drive thru traffic which made things flow smoothly. I couldn't believe that when I walked in the doors at 6:30 there was not a line to order. I walked right up to the counter and immediately placed my order for one single, one double and one junior Whataburger. My order was delivered to my table in about 12 mins and based on how busy they were I thought that was pretty good. The Whataburger Jr was the perfect size and filled me up. The other two were to take home - but goodness, they were BIG burgers. As far as taste, the burgers are good. I wouldn't say they are the best I've ever had but they satisfy the burger craving. The service was top notch. The manager came around to check on every table. I did hear a few other customers that had incorrect orders, but the were quick to fix them (and it was opening day so issues are likely to occur). Side note - they have 32 ounce shakes. Beware of online ordering! I made the effort last night because it had been a while since we'd been to Whataburger. Oddly enough, all my credit cards were declined. I then thought, weird, I'll just do PayPal (which they purport to accept). The transaction went through and was processing and they declined my order right on the online screen. I called the Help number to see what was going on. The gentleman with whom I spoke couldn't understand me very well nor could I understand him. There was a real language barrier that made that conversation take about twice as long as necessary. In the end, he couldn't help me at all. I then called the restaurant directly and was informed that they didn't take online orders, that they didn't need my business because they "had an event at Cable-Dahmer Stadium" and that they couldn't do anything for me either. I am going to take them at their word and never bother with them again. Their food was mediocre the last time we went and this visit was our family giving them one last chance. As a Texan visiting Kansas City for work, this is not Whataburger. Nothing is correct. The burger flavor is wrong, the fries are rock hard, the onion rings are soggy... and if you order breakfast taquitos- they always forget the picante sauce. No one eats a Whataburger taquito in Texas without that sauce. Figured it would be a taste of home while I'm here, nope- not even close. Ya know...it's a fast food burger. My husband and kids loved it. Service was quick and ketchup was amazingly good. I thought the cheeseburger was your typical fast food burger. My family loved it. I've heard it is comparable to Sonic, which I guess is true (as I don't love them but my family does). I took my mom & sister (December 23rd), neither had ever had Whataburger. They both liked it, although the burgers were cold before they finished eating them. This may have been due to the 2 drive thru lines and busy lobby. It reminded my mom of a good old Wendy's burger (not how they are now). This was my second time in visiting this Whataburger. The first time was a few months after it opened. Wasn't a bad experience but wasn't a great one either. So I decided to try it again once the novelty wore off. It was still pretty busy though. I decided to use the kisosk to order my food as there was a long line at the counter. The kisosk was confusing and it took a few minutes to figure out how to finish my order let alone customize my order. You have to pick up a number from the counter and add it to you order instead of it assigning one automatically. It took a while to get my food, but they were busy so I'll give them that. Once I received my order I was again disappointed. You pay a premium price for bread. Very little meat in a hamburger, you have to order at least a double to see any meat. Whataburger means where's the burger. Where's the beef, to quote an old Wendy's commercial. Food wasn't hot, fries were just barely warm. With as busy as they were and with as many people they had working, my food should have been piping hot, and my fries should have been crisp. I had a shake instead of a soda. The shake reminded me of a Dairy Queen shake. The flavor was off and isn't real ice cream, couldn't tell you what it is but definitely not ice cream. Very disappointed in Whataburger, there's one going in close to my neighborhood, doubt I'll even try it. Really don't understand all the hype and why they are so popular. Went to Whataburger late at night on 11/30. Surprisingly it was still busy. I'm not sure how long I was in line, but it was less than an hour. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich combo (#12). The chicken had enough spice to make my mouth tingle, but not so much that I couldn't eat the sandwich. The fries were good and I got cream gravy for dipping sauce. I was not disappointed. The opening seemed very organized. They had security directing traffic and cones blocking the road so that there was only one way in and one way out of the parking lot. read more

Drive through cashier didn't know if my total was $28 or $21, I told him my total was $21, he said it was $28, then asked me if I wanted to wait 3min for the actual total, you would think that he would've understood that waiting an extra 3 min was justified because I'm already waiting 30+minutes to find out if my total was 30% more was a big deal. Visited twice this week and had two great experiences. Food was fresh and my mother said the grilled chicken sandwich was the best she ever had. I had one on the second visit and I agree. Ordered on 5/12 at 1:11pm. @ Blue Springs location. They were busy, but not overly so. Pros: Well organized and ready to be super busy. Staff very nice and patient. Order was 100% correct. Cons: No ice in my tea. Fries and sandwich were cold. Fries tasted like they had been sitting around for over an hour. Bun was stale because it had been sitting out too long. It tasted like the food is being precooked too far in advance. For the price I'm paying to eat out, I will wait an extra few minutes to receive hot food and a correct order. The problem is, this is not location specific. I had the exact same experience with the location in Independence last month during dinner while eating in. Again, not ridiculously busy. I doubt I will be returning to either location which is a shame since we need more variety in the area. read more

Stopped in to try the famous whataburger for the first time and it will definitely be my last. My spouse opened up her patty melt and the meat was Rare, so u checked out my burger and Slightly pink. The fries had no flavor as well as the burgers. Overall impression of the place it was like a teen hangout, there were seven employee's in the lobby on there phones laughing talking loudly and profanity being used. The appearance of the restaurant was way below any standard. Floors were greasy, and stained with food/ketchup trash on tables chairs. Also in the kitchen I saw 8 more employee's laughing and joking around, seems some of them could have been cleaning the dining area. This place needs real help in customer service and how to clean. The guy filling drinks had water and ice all over the pickup window, and handed me a cup with soda dripping off all over the top and sides. The burgers are entirely too expensive! I could have a steak dinner at Longhorn for what the burger cost. I can't see this joint staying in business very long in Independence! After everyone sits in that line once, gets held up at the cash register, that will be the last time they want to endure eating there again! Service is ridiculously slow. I have eaten at this whataburger 3 times in the since it opened and have been disappointed each time. Took 30 minutes each time to get our food. Not big orders and not complicated. Just my wife and I, simple combo meals with no special instructions. 2 of these times we went through the drive thru and once we dined inside. Each time our food was cold. This last time, about a week ago, they got our drink order completely messed up. Now when anyone suggests whataburger I counter with Sonic, they taste the same. Sonic takes 10 minutes compared to 30. They never get my drink wrong and the fries are always hot. read more
