Fried Chicken Cobb Salad
Ralphie S.

Along with Zaxby's; I have a KFC, Church's, and Popeyes all within a mile of my house, and I have found myself gravitating towards Zaxby's more than the other corporate chicken chains lately. Call me weak, but I really prefer boneless chicken nuggets / strips more than bone in chicken. I think the bones just remind me that I'm eating a dead animal and that always leads to dread and guilt and questioning my own moral choices - who needs that when your just trying to satisfy the tummy with some succulent sauce coated and breaded protein. A 10 piece of teriyaki nuggets with a cup of the signature sauce for dipping - a spicy 1000 Islandish - with some perfectly crispy crinkle cut fries and a piece of Texas toast is a great little fast food meal. My other go-to when I'm feeling I want something a wee-bit more healthy is their Cobb Salad with fried chicken. Delish. The place is always clean and the layout looks more like a family style restaurant that a typical fast-food joint. The staff always seem to be friendly and engaging, and that's rare, so kudos to management for hiring or retaining above average staff. My only complaint is the music - the last two times I've dined in, really bad music has been very audible - Contemporary Country and Contemporary Christian. I can tolerate the country since I understand that it's popular (sad but true), but don't subject us paying customers to Jesus music when we are here to eat, not attend a worship service. Can I get an Amen?

When I need a good chicken salad, I go to Zaxby's. Unfortunately a few of the locations have closed, but at least this location is on my way to one of my destinations. I usually get the Cobb salad with fried chicken. The fresh ingredients including egg, bacon, crispy onion straws, lettuce mix, and tomatoes make for a good combination. The dining room is big and they have the latest self serve soft drink machine. Hopefully, this location will stay open for me...

Soooo good! We don't have a zaxbys near our hometown so when we saw this location we knew we had to stop. Friendly staff and the food was fresh and delicious. Great sweet tea as well!

If you like chicken fingers/tenders and wings, Zaxby's is your place. I've been cautiously watching and waiting to try this place. Our market had several competing fast-chicken options pop up in the past few months. After some feedback from friends and family, I gave it a try. This restaurant is located just north of NE Vivion Road along N Antioch Road in the Antioch Crossing. There is ample parking near the building. This business has a drive thru lane. To begin, the country-decor is modern and more elegant than most fast-food places. The team member immediately greeted us as we walked through the door. A sizable area in front of the order counter allows for patrons to review the entire menu and wait their turn to order. They offer salads with chicken, chicken sandwiches, chicken fingers, chicken wings, appetizers, desserts and kids menu. We ordered two 4 chicken finger plates. Each plate comes with fries, Texas toast and coleslaw. One order was tossed in tongue torch sauce with a side of ranch. The other was plain with a side of honey mustard. We were incredibly surprised that the order was ready by the time we had filled our drinks and picked a table. The chicken and fries were piping-hot! The chicken was juicy and tender. The breading wasn't too think or too crispy. Very filling. The crinkle cut fries were thick cut and as large as my fingers. Fried to perfection; not soggy or limp, nor hard or burnt. They could use salt or seasoning though. The sauces are good. The tongue torch was more sweet than expected. The sauce are issued in individually wrapped containers. The dishes come with a large piece of Texas toast. To be honest after chicken, fries and coleslaw, there wasn't room for toast. The coleslaw was a traditional mix similar to another fast-food chicken chain. This was a comfort. This chain has friendly employees who regularly circulate the dining space. The tables, drink station are well-maintained and surfaces are clean. This chain serves Coke beverages as well as unsweetened and sweet teas. I am concerned about the amount of packaging this brand uses. The weight of the food nearly broke the styrofoam plate when it was delivered to our table. Silverware is individually wrapped in plastic. The pre-portioned coleslaw was in a plastic and styrofoam container. Perhaps reusable forks, and a lid-free dish for the slaw would be a few good steps towards a greener option. Great first visit to this restaurant. I would highly recommend this for my future chicken tender cravings.

Our first visit to this location and it has to be the best of the Zaxby's in the Metro. The decor is great. The friendly service at the counter and the delivery of food to the table makes Zaxby's by far the best chicken restaurant around. Today we had the Big Zax Snak. As always the chicken strips were hot, perfectly breaded and full of flavor. We also had the fried Cobb Zalad. A healthy portion full of flavor and great ingredients.

You can tell a lot of thought went into creating the space. What really sets this place apart is the wood-fired cooking. Everything is prepared over Missouri hickory and oak, and you can truly taste the difference. The food has this incredible smoky depth that makes every bite feel elevated and intentional. I also love that they source ingredients from local farmers, which really comes through in how fresh and vibrant everything tastes. The menu feels seasonal, thoughtful, and well-executed. The food itself is not only beautifully presented, but packed with flavor. Every dish I tried was cooked perfectly and left a lasting impression. They're open for lunch, and they also offer catering from casual office lunches to full events. I've heard amazing things about their charcuterie boards as well. If you're looking for a unique, high-quality lunch experience in Kansas City, I highly recommend checking out The Russell. It's truly a hidden gem. Normally a second stop on such short timeline is a non-option, but that Steak Chimi had me asking questions... Is she really like that? Knocking my socks off with ease and leaving my cuticles filled with buttery remember-me's. I had to see her again. Had to! On the second time of asking, I wanted to see if she danced a different tune just as well. Putting on a Chicken Cobb for size proved ill-fitting, at least stood beside THAT sandwich. Nothing to make me crawl back with a humbling desperation. Inflation makes your lunch $10-15 already, so may as well make it twenty, order the right thing, and the Russell becomes worth frequenting. Just make sure she's wearing her shooting boots - we don't have room to thirst for Cobbs y'all.

When we told her it was our first visit to the restaurant, she took the time to carefully go over the menus with us (regular, happy hour, and drinks), providing her recommendations when we asked. Her guidance was spot-on-target! For drinks, I had a Mindful Chai and my friend had the 3-Beverage Flight (Golden Hour, Heart Says Thanks, and Tres Raices). My chai was the BEST I have ever tasted (and I order chai every chance I get!), and my friend loved her 3 drinks (she said Tres Raices was her favorite). For our food, we split an order of the Not Queso Dip and the Avocado Tostadas. We were both very impressed by how fresh the ingredients were, and the blend of flavors in each dish that created a unique and yummy taste. The Kitchen has an open, airy layout that inspires deep breathing, while the arrangement and spacing of tables still provides for intimacy of conversation and minimal ambient noise. Sofhia checked back with us several times during our meal to ensure we had everything we needed and were thoroughly enjoying our food and drink (we were!). It was a delightful meal, and we thank Sofhia, the kitchen staff, and everyone at Whole Harvest Kitchen for such a lovely time. We'll be back!!

Okay Modern Market, I see you…read more I was on the hunt for a healthy-ish spot for lunch (I mean, hello it is January), when I came upon Modern Market Eatery on Yelp. Upon doing some research I learned it's a scratch kitchen specializing in clean eats, and that it's a chain. A win for the health options, a ding for the chain, but not all chains are bad, an we are living in a time where there are some winners. So, I packed myself up and headed down the road to Prairie Village. It's still fairly new, and it has that squeaky clean feeling to it when you arrive. Inside it's counter service and you seat yourself (they will bring the food to you). It kind of reminded me of how Noodles and Company felt when they first became a thing way back in the early 2000s. I ordered a thai salad that came in at under 400 calories so I was honestly skeptical at how big or flavorful it would really be when it arrived, and holy cow was it good. The chicken was cold, but still held some flavor, the dressing was great, there were fresh veggies, pickled onions. It was one of the best 400 calorie meals I've had in a long time. My dad ordered the salmon curry and he also enjoyed his though I didn't try it so jury's out on my opinion! I left full and happy to have discovered this spot. I'll be back soon!

Despite being located in a kid-centric mall, they don't have a kids menu. You used to be able to get a kids quesadilla and fries, but no longer. Instead you have to piece things together, with a semblance of half service and half "do it yourself," and the tables and chains looked like Chuck E. Cheese at closing time. When I was ordering a lemonade, I asked if I could get half lemonade, and the other half iced tea. They didn't understand, so I emphasized, half lemonade, half tea, and they then flatly told me, "We're going to give you a lemonade, and there's tea over there, so you can figure it out." Place is a chaotic mess, and I noticed a ton more people and families at the Spin across the hall, which I think we'll be joining next time.
