Thanks to "hood dude food reviews" on Instagram we checked this spot out. So glad we did! Amazing smash burgers on nice potato buns. Andrea the manager was so nice and brought us onion rings to try in addition to tots and chili cheese fries. The Oreo shake was out of this world- so good. It was a little loud and echoing in the restaurant and there wasn't any music playing which made it feel like more of a takeout place than a sit down place. Wayback Burgers is a national chain of 170 locations but this is their first venture into the Kansas City metro. When most chains come to town they find a place in the burbs, but WB is located at the intersection of Truman Rd and Prospect Ave. Kudos to them for investing in the urban core! They are serving burgers, dogs, cheesesteaks, chicken sandwiches, tots, rings and shakes. I ordered the Bourbon Bacon Burger with 2 smash patties, cheddar cheese, bacon, an o ring and a tangy bourbon mustard. A very solid burger. The side of rings were also above average. I was very impressed with the welcome I received from the manager when I walked in and then coming to my table to follow up on my meal, and then later an employee came by to show me their app that I could download for a free shake and rewards on future visits. I'm surprised that I'm giving 5 stars to a national chain, but they are pushing all the right buttons. Good product, great customer service, and opening in an area often overlooked by newer franchise based ventures. I'll return. read more

New location. Don't understand why they wanted to put it in the hood. Seemed like more people were trying to get free food over BS. The place that just opened but what do you expect when you open right off truman and paseo? It's in a new gas station so it looks like a typical burger spot. I think the burgers were good for the price. I think the onion rings were great although a little cold but I think that had to deal with them trying to get over their learning curve. Chicken strips were fine. I gave it a five star because we're a Berta joint they're going to give steak shot and run for their money. I think it's a pretty good burger. The food Is good. They could use higher quality meat or season the patties. The shakes were good too but the taste of plastic does leak into the shakes. Leaves an aftertaste. I would also suggest using higher quality plastic cup. read more

The food was delicious. The burgers are fresh and juicy. We liked the onion rings but only got 4 of them. Looking forward to trying the hand dipped shakes. I give the restaurant 4 stars because we had an akward situation that I believe will be a problem at this location. We were at the counter ordering our food when a man comes up and cuts in front of us, basically pushing us out of the way and started loudly saying how he had been waiting 15 minutes to place an order and he was next. There was no one in line when we went to the counter to order. The employee handled the situation as best as she could and apologized to us. We let her know it wasn't her fault. I appreciate supporting businesses in the inner city but there will be issues like this again. We will go back as the food was very good. read more

Yesterday, on April 14th, 2025, myself and two of my colleagues/co-workers from KCPD went to this new Restaurant for lunch for the first time to which, it has only been open for about two weeks and it is located at Truman Road and Prospect, next to a gas station on the corner. We all decided on what we wanted to order, and I got the Garden Burger (which is made of all vegetable ingredients only and I built my own). I must say, it was "phenomenal and top notch and I simply loved every bite of it." It absolutely tastes like "a genuine hamburger." It is not too salty, and it comes to your table (providing if you are dining in), "piping hot from just being freshly cooked." The food and the Restaurant are a "definite hit," and we all plan on returning there again. The Staff there is also "extremely nice and courteous" and the ambiance of the dine-in portion of this Restaurant is wonderful. I more than highly recommend anyone to visit it any time soon, because, believe me, just like myself, you will not be disappointed in the food, service or the atmosphere. Bon Appetit!!! read more
