I've been going to PepperJax for YEARS and this one is my go-to location to visit. I get the same thing every time...a chicken bowl cooked fireball with green peppers, both beans, rice, salsa, sour cream, black olives, and spicy ranch. One thing I wish they had was the Chipotle Tabasco like Chipotle does in the condiment sections, but still good without it. For a fast food place, this is one of the top rotations. The food is fresh, prepared while you wait, fast, and good. The only reason I give it 3 stars rather than more is for the service. My husband and I typically order for pickup if we order from here. The service leaves a lot to be desired. And it doesn't seem to change whether you order to-go, order pickup, or eat in - as we've done all of them. The employees are unfriendly at best and do not appear to like their jobs. Everyone has a bad day at work including customer service or food service. But your bad day shouldn't be every time we're in there and it shouldn't leave your customers feeling like they're in the way. read more

Service was prompt and nice, the restaurant itself was clean and nice. The food though really left something to be desired. I got a Cheese Steak, the bread was good, the meat was grossly under seasoned and generally tasted bad. I wanted provolone but they only offer one kind of cheese, some kind of abomination made of cheese and Swiss. It was bad enough that I would've left if I weren't waiting for work to be done on my car. The most egregious issue though, is that they have the audacity to say "Americas best Philly" right on business sign. My signature steak Philly ($8.09) was made to order at the counter with my choice of added veggies. It was also possible to adjust your seasoning level. I liked the fast cook time and the available Mrs. Vickers chips as a side instead of just fries. My Philly was generously sized at 9", with plenty of tasty, moist steak and veggies on a fresh bun, which did not overwhelm the sandwich. Nice! I wasn't familiar with PepperJax when I came in. It's a fast casual place like Chipotle where they make your food in an assembly line as you tell them exactly how you want your cheesesteak, nachos or salad. The line moves fast and they will suggest fries roughly 37 times. I had a chicken cheesesteak. It was pretty standard, but tasty. I enjoyed the softness of the roll. I'd go light seasoning next time because the salt content raised my blood pressure. Lots of sauces to choose from at a little self service bar. All in all, not bad, but definitely not strong enough to be considered something significantly better than fast food. read more

I have cravings for this stuff often! The food is always fresh and made exactly how you want it right in front of you. I've had their sandwiches, nachos and salads and have not been disappointed yet. The nachos are my favorite though. Another thing that I find amazing about this place is the fact that when you get your food it looks exactly how it does in the pictures. Besides the awesome food.... the staff has always been energetic & friendly. I also believe that Pepper Jax really listens to their customers. When they stopped putting their sandwiches in boxes for to go orders, there were a lot of complaints popping up on their facebook page. Now the to-go boxes are back! I went in to get food , their were two of us and I was 30 sec to a minute behind the other person that was with me. I ordered a Philly steak sandwich and the cook told the prep person to put my cheese on to make sure it's hold she said it can wait it'll be hot! The prep person continued with another order that did not need the same immediate attention that the sandwich did. I wish she had some attention to detail long story short cheese did not melt on my sandwich as the meet was not hot enough by the time she got to it. read more

If you want a cheap, fast philly that is about as good as one can get in Kansas City (not great), PepperJax grill is the place to go. If one wants an authentic philly cheesesteak with great flavor from just the sandwich itself...well, there are better options. The fast food elements are all there, which is to say the quality of the meal is below that of actual restaurants. The price to quantity is great, but the seats are metal and uncomfortable, not really a laid back place to sit and eat. Staff is about the same as most fast food eateries, nice enough for the wage and the occasional extra care, but nothing equivalent to actual waiting staff. A positive that makes PepperJax stand out is many delicious sauces. Not one bit healthy, probably not organic for those naturalists out there, but it is unusual when the sauces and sides are better then the main course itself.The queso makes for a very interesting philly as well: it is a spicier take on the classical cheesewiz found at classics back in Philadelphia. The mushroom gravy on the french fries is much akin to a poutine, especially when combined with the queso. A surprisingly delicious mixture. In the end PepperJax is a step above McDonald's or Burger King and much closer to that of Arby's or Jack in the Box in that the offering is unique and of decent quality. The food is good but this is the second time in about 6 months my mom and I have had interaction with a female cook who is just rude. She was putting our sandwiches in to go boxes which of course is standard procedure since COVID hit. My 82 year old mom forgets this and saw her putting our food in the boxes said "we're eating here." I explained to my mom that it was because of COVID they're doing that, and the female employee made a snide remark "it's been like this for a year." The way she said it was rude and condescending. If you hate your job that much quit or they need to put her in a position that has no interaction with people. The girl cooking the meat did fine but the guy showed zero concern we were even there. He refused to start fries when she asked and then had to go make rice when he should've done that when we walked in. He was doing something on the register the whole time so I assumed he was a manager and that's why we didn't bother complaining. So our food was cold and fries were greasy and soggy. Losing it's charm! We've been here several times and each time is a little worse. Tonight I ordered steak nachos which were prepared with a half scoop of cheese and stale chips. When asked if I could get a little more cheese the server said it would be extra. Also ordered side of beans and rice. It's actually a bowl of rice with so few beans on top you can literally count them. Bonus is the unpleasant staff that try to talk fast enough you can't understand them. I really liked PepperJax and it far exceeded my expectations for this type of place. The philly steak salad I got tasted like something I would order in a nicer steakhouse for twenty bucks, and it was a huge portion for a low price. This would totally take the place of one of my favorites, Chipotle, if we had it in my town! I don't often feel a casual chain place like this deserves 5 Yelp stars but this place had such friendly and warm service and great little extras, it definitely warrants that. We had lunch here today. I am very limited as I don't eat meat. The veggie bowl was really good . They cleaned off the grill and used clean spatulas because I'm vegan! They sautéed mushrooms and onions which went over rice with black beans and I topped it with salsa. It was great! read more
