Once we got to the window the cashier was not understanding or even offered any explanation as to why it took so long we had to ask. He said we were waiting on fresh fries. The fries were cold. It takes a lot to displease a customer enough for them to even want to leave a yelp review. However - Sonya made it all better. She validated our frustrations, she asked what she could do to make it better, she made us fresh food and went out of her way to make us feel cared about and provide over the top service that did actually make up for the first time. I have been sitting in the drive thru for almost an hour now on a Sunday, the parking lot is half full, and appeared to be pretty calm as I drove up. It's taken at least ten minutes per vehicle. I had maybe 9 cars in front of me, normal lunch rush is no reason to sit this long in a drive thru. I half expected an apology at the window like something had been broken, anything you could count as a reason for the poor service. Nope, just a kitchen full of kids talking amongst themselves . It took four tries initially to get the order correct as the person taking the order did not have a simple grasp of the English language. 15 minutes later when we finally arrived at the checkout window the order was still incorrect. Apparently the hours of operation change without notice, went by after 7 am on Saturday morning, the employees inside said they were told not to let anyone in. There was a McLane's truck that had been sitting there about a half hour who wasn't having any luck getting in, either. We try to frequent this location on Saturday morning and usually can gain entrance via the side door and usually have to left employees and customers into the building until the Manager arrives since no one there seems to be trained to keep the doors from automatically locking. We sat in front of the speaker literally for 15 minutes. We were in lane 2 a voice came on and told us they are not taking orders on lane 2 only on lane 1. We backed up and got behind two vehicles, a car came behind us and went through lane 2 and they took her order and she got in line and got her food. Waited in front of the speaker forever. We understand that these places that are open late get a lot of rude customers and we were not trying to be rude. We were trying to be patient and understanding. We got to the window the young man asked us what we had and we told him. They gathered our food, he handed us our food and asked if we needed anything else and we said yes we would like our drinks. He got our drinks, my son got a chocolate shake. The manager told him make a chocolate milk shake. When he came back to the window with a vanilla milkshake we proceeded to hand him back all the food that was wrong and needed to be remade. We were being pleasant and kind the whole time. He came back and asked for our receipt. We have it to him and they remade everything that needed to be remade. He shut the window as if we were leaving. We had to knock on the window to get straws for our drinks. Everybody wants to make good money but it doesn't seem like they want to do a good job. I would say if you really don't want to put forth a good effort in what your doing well maybe there is something else you would like to do better. We will never go back to this whataburger again. Unknown to Jay, I was just starting to head home and had stopped at a Denny's to get my carb and protein fixed before my 3-hour drive. I was extremely thirsty so I pulled into Whataburger here, an ordered quote-unquote the largest dr. Pepper you have. No I pull up the window and get my money out of my wallet as Jay looks at me with a grin and says " Put your money away, it's on me". Now you have no idea who I was nor did he know I had to retire extremely early on disability. Every single penny matters to me and the stop at Denny's is a monthly ritual treat. There are many burger variations, but the original cant be beat. We especially love the double with double cheese: all that melted cheeezey goodness cant be beat. Love those lemon pies too ! One time the manager suggested orderng a vanilla shake with an apple pie crumbled up[ in it. If you want a lower-calorie beverage, try the iced tea. Normally the drive thru takes 10-20 minutes to get through, but tonight it took me 20 minutes just to get to the mic to place an order (I was stuck in line or I would've left). When I did order, before I was done I was asked to standby (a couple minutes passed) then I completed my order and was told it'd take 15-20 minutes to complete my order (a Whataburger Jr, Sweet n Spicey Burger & onion rings).
