Official Grand Opening Ceremony was 9/23/2022 and I purposely flew out on a Friday for it. Am I nuts or what? Nuts for whataburger!!! Ok, it was a coincidence I happened to be here and honestly, it made that area of the airport kind of a mess around 10a, luckily I got to snag breakfast before the mayhem began. This chain is loved by Texans almost as much as Texas it self. They say everything is bigger in Texas and after a trip to the urinal, I quickly realized that's not true. However, the burgers at Whataburger are pretty big. My first batch of fries tasted like they brought them from the first Whataburger grand opening. They were chewy and stale AF. I took them back and they replaced them with a less old version, but by no means, fresh. If this is what I can expect when all of the big wigs from corporate are there, I can imagine it's only downhill from here. The staff was friendly (and probably on their best behavior), the burger was delicious, and the fries were the only bad part of the meal. So 4 stars for now but it's trending down. read more

For it being in the airport! It's kept its consistency! I love eating it in SA! It's a silly thought but it always tastes good at its home town! Ever been on a stinky flight? A bag full of fries will make any flight smell better. It's a shame this place isn't 24/7. They open at 4am. I never thought I'd be sitting outside a Whataburger before 4am waiting for them to open, but I do love me some BOB's (Breakfast on a Bun) Their burgers are always delicious, and there's so many different ways you can customize your burgers here. This location doesn't 'lend' out the plastic table numbers like the other ones do. It's sorta a paired down Whataburger that's not pared down on friendly service. The food is always fresh and hot. The ketchup is always fancy and spicy. I wish they made a Whataburger hot sauce though. They need to get on that. read more

Service, and food was horrible. The lady who was calling out the food just let my food sit, while she kept getting other folks food. I seen the bag, but I didn't know it was my food. My fries, and sandwich were cold. My son said his was okay. I threw away my whole sandwich. I spent almost $30. I even gave a tip just to throw it away. My sandwich was sloppy, nasty, and cold. People kept walking up saying I just got, so she would stop and go get their fries. Two of them were Frontier employees. Then the cook got nasty with me when I wasn't even speaking with her. Then the Frontier employee started making jokes trying to be funny. Then the lady who was bringing the started speaking Spanish with the Frontier employee. I said nope speak English. Good as expected but had a couple of issues. The biscuit recipe has either changed (tastes kind of sweet) or the airport restaurant has a different source for biscuits and I cannot earn points. Being at the airport the staff needs to understand that there are visitors visiting Whataburger for the first time, not familiar with the menu. The manager who was also training the cashier taking orders was very impatient with the customer in front of us who obviously wasn't familiar with the menu. The manager's impatient attitude was very noticeable by their raised voice, not making it comfortable for the customer to order and not helpful in clarify the miscommunication between the customer and the trainee. Being in a fast pace fast food occupation this is something the manager needs training on before being put in front of customers and definitely before being expected to train a new employee. read more

Standard airport location. Conveniently located next to security in the middle of the concourse. Decent prep compared to full standalone Whataburger locations. Good service and fast compared to most airport fast food. In terms of Whataburger, it's pretty high on my list of fast food burger chains. Some folks rank it number one, but personally I think the burger isn't quite as good as some places... like In-N-Out. The fries are pretty good, and crisp. Cooked in relatively unhealthy liquid shortening and added dextrose (sugar) and a color preservative unfortunately. Overall the best food choice in the SAT airport. read more

I LOVE that Whataburger came to the San Antonio airport and I love to see them constantly busy. With that being said, their order takers are consistently slow. This morning, there were zero people waiting to pick their order up, yet there were about 15 people in line - this is because the backup was at the register!! Not acceptable in an airport. Apparently when we came to this location they had just begun operation. And it showed. The like was backed up massively. And when I was putting my order in, I heard the manager mention to temporarily stop taking orders so that the kitchen had time to catch up. What that did mean, however, is that I knew my meal was going to be freshly made (and it was). However, to their credit, even though they were clearly slammed, the staff was friendly and was clearly doing whatever they could to move the line along the best they could while also getting meal tickets out at the best rate they could. I appreciated that. I still felt like they were giving me their full attention to ensure they got my order right and not make me feel rushed. My meal here was great. Better than the Whataburger location just outside of the airport if I'm being honest. So that definitely made up for any waiting I had to do. The burgers and fries were all hot and tasted incredibly fresh. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and it was, honestly, one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had at a fast food joint. Never thought I would have a best anything at an airport food place. So props to them for that! One thing I will say, however, is good luck eating your food there. The limited seating they have there is shared with a Mexican restaurant right next door. So there is a lot of demand for seating. No one was finding somewhere to eat the whole time I was in line to order as well as while waiting for my food to be made. I just took everything back to my gate & ate there. I recommend planning on doing that unless you're here during a weird off hour. Hopefully as they stay in operation longer they'll be able to do a better job of turning around orders & meals. Normal Whataburger food which is always good but I'm giving 5 stars for two main reasons. First they are serving their full menu at 6ish am which is awesome. I'm not a huge breakfast guy and I won't get another chance to eat for a while today so having a nice burger and fries will get me thru the day. Second their prices seem the same as their normal restaurants. I can't think of the last time I saw a airport store or restaurant sell things at their normal price. Tried a couple times on a recent trip as an out-of-towner and it'd say it's very similar to Burger King. I recommend getting a double whataburger Jr instead of a comparably sized whataburger regular single. Flavor is much better and size more manageable. This place is very much open. Yelp needs to change that "closed" statement. I work at the airport and unfortunately this place, like just about every business at the airport, has a very high turnover rate. Because of that the lines can get long as the cashier tries to navigate the register. Also, the food prep area isn't all that great either. Wait times can get very long. Just today, at a not so busy time (7:30am) it took 15 minutes to get my very simple order. I only have a 30 minute lunch break. read more

Absolute garbage of a location. The hours listed say open until 2130, but they told us they closed at 2050 on a Sunday. Absolute lazy and don't care about doing their jobs until closing. If the hours are going to be different from those posted, update the hours... but I doubt any location closes at a random 2050 versus on the hour or half hour. What a joke! read more
