NEVER AGAIN!! Bought a dress thinking I could returne it if it didn't work. I'd seen another dress that had a tag saying "no refund" but mine didn't say that. When I found a dress somewhere else cheaper, I called this store and was told "all sales are final". I asked why the receipt didn't say that, nor did the tag, nor did the sales person say this. They argued it's on the receipt. It's not. When I read them everything my receipt said, they even argued their receipt doesn't say "Whatchamacallit Fasions" which it does. I will NEVER shop there again. I paid too much! read more

Way over priced for horrible alterations. $178 to hem the front of a prom gown & tighten spaghetti straps. The lace hem looks like a middle school child did it. They literally folded over the lace and stitched. A 3 inch hem with lace folded under is not pretty- should have cut the lace off and stitched it. read more

If your daughter likes big, poufy, gaudy ball gown type dresses this is the place for you! Lots of oversized beading, tulle and floor length dresses. Highly overpriced and very overwhelming as soon as you walk in the door. If your daughter is more athletic, sporty and less girly like mine she will not like this place. read more

We drove all the way to Whatchamacallit to buy myself a prom dress and I couldn't be happier!!!! AMAZING customer service! I had my own personal shopper who helped me find every dress in the world that matches what I was looking for. Her name is Althea Davis. 5 STARS for consumer service, 5 STARS for prom selection (if you like bling). The reason why I'm giving it 4 STARTS is because they don't have all sizes for every dress and the dresses are by color which I kind of like since I know what color in looking for. 5 STARS for cleanliness of the store. 5 STARS for having a great business!!! I had been to other stores and ha just been having that "eh it's okay" feeling about every dress I put on. I had been struggling to find a dress long enough for me and went to multiple stores but when I came to this store I was able to find the perfect dress! A lovely person helped me throughout the entire process and it was hassle free! The alterations, Magic Stitch, did an amazing job as well! It was very convenient because it was inside the boutique meaning that I didn't have to go to a different location just to get my free altered. They helped fit me and got my dress ready the same day! The pricing is very good and they also do outside alterations! I definitely recommend coming to both of these places! read more

Had seen several friends get their dresses from here and were very lovely. Walked in and was immediately overwhelmed and in awe of the size of the store and the many many dresses. Looked promising that this was going to be THE place we get a dress. Wasn't really clear on who worked there or who were customers. Really didn't get asked if we needed help. Found an employee and told them what we were looking for and in what direction should we go or how the store was laid out. They basically told just that 'this section is this brand and that section is that brand' and that was all they knew. That was the extent of the help we got. Finally went through aimlessly and found a few dresses to try on. The dressing room person opened the door for us and was nice as pleasant enough. We asked a few questions and there really wasn't an answer. The employees are not educated at all about their inventory. You're pretty much on your own. We weren't even done trying on dresses and the attendant let our dressing room get taken over. Left without a dress. We did find a shop down the road with WAAAY better customer service and their inventory was taken care of and all in bags so there were no snags or missing jewels like what we experienced here. read more

Let me start out by saying that I'm 25 years old and in no way a "prude" or out of touch with what is "cool". In fact, I used to love WatchamaCallIt..when I was in high school I bough multiple pageant, prom, and banquet dresses from here. Today was a different story. I went in with my mom looking for a mother of the bride look for my wedding...this store has changed so much. The girls are in very short cutoff jean shorts, flip flops and tank tops and don't look the least bit professional. They glance at you when you come in and go back to talking amongst themselves and offer no help. Upon asking them where dresses are that would fit our occasion, we were told "back right corner." and that's all the help that was offered. Now for the music..as I said I'm not a prude, but the music they play in this store in appalling. Unedited music talking about drugs, private body parts, and vulgar lyrics demeaning women is a little over the top..especially for the store being what it is (a special occasion dress shop largely geared toward young girls). Anyway, just very let down after seeing that the store I have so many wonderful memories in has turned into this. I feel bad for the girls that don't get to experience the magic of what the store once was. read more

I saw some reviews about bad service.... but I had great service! Brooke was AMAZING! The whole staff was super friendly & patient. I was there from 1-close, tried on probably 10 dresses... & I never once felt rushed. The store had lots & lots of dresses & I found my size in almost every dress I liked. I find it hard to believe this place has such bad reviews. From the minute we walked in the door the customer service was great. Laura helped my two daughters find prom dresses. She was attentive, patient, listened to their likes and dislikes, made appropriate suggestions, and was conscious of our budget. Both girls found gorgeous dresses. I should have read the reviews prior to walking in the store. I had a horrible experience with 2 associates and 1 manager. I went into the store on a weekend, and saw some shoes for my wedding day. The shoes were very nice looking, but when I went to try them on in better light, I saw that the shoes had brown marks on them, and the glitter on the shoes was actually fading. I would not dare wear these, let alone on my wedding day. I called the store to see what they could do (fully aware of the no return policy, but open to exchange). The cashier who answered said she could do nothing, but would take my number and have a manager call me back. Same time the next day, I had not been called. So I called and spoke to another representative who got the manager involved, Megan. I was literally told "There is nothing I can do." (I thought to myself, 'then why are you a manager?' Anyway just terrible representation on their behalf. Policy is policy, but don't put poor condition shoes on the floor. It is not worth the wrath I'm sending to corporate. read more

So I cannot comment on what it's like to buy a dress here but I came in because I needed a bag with a zipper to cover a dress for a customer from a tailor shop. They were EXCELLENT in helping me and gave me the zippered bag (actually gave me TWO bags) for free even though I didn't purchase anything. They definitely went above and beyond to help me and from that alone I would definitely come here if I ever needed a glamorous dress because the service was so helpful. Sad to see all the negative reviews but as I was standing around waiting for the bags two employees came up to me to see if I needed any help. Thank you Gary and staff for the help today! read more

What a amazing time my daughter and I had picking out a Homecoming Dress. It was so much fun. The girl that helped us was awesome. She took time to find out what kind of dress we had in mind, then went around picking the dresses with my daughter. I loved the comfortable seating at the dressing room and enjoyed seeing my daughter try on dresses. The attendant was so attentive. We spent 4 hours in the store and it felt like one. My daughter found the perfect dress and we were so excited. Lots of dresses and name brands to choose from. We will be back! Thanks also for having great prices. read more

Oh my goodness! I cannot thank Whatchamacallit enough! I lost my pageant earrings and they hand delivered them to my hotel to insure I would have them for my headshots the next morning! We were not going to get into Dallas until after the store closed. I have never had a store go to such lengths to help me. I will forever recommend Whatchamacallit! I recently visited WhatchamaCallit this past weekend and let me tell you all that , that was my worst experience ever. I bought my prom dress there 5 years ago , so I took my sister to start looking for prom dresses as well since I know they have the best. But sad to say I was never acknowledged while I was there , everyone else was helped out except my sister and I. One of the sales associates was so rude, I accidentally bumped into her while trying to take down a dress. I apologized and all she did was look at me up& down and rolled her eyes. I know a lot about customer service and I understand we have good & bad days & how it can be very busy at times but I don't think that should be acceptable at a place where people pay a good amount of $. I tried to ask for help to a different sales associate to help us into a fitting room and she ignored me and walked away. I was so upset for the poor treatment we were receiving we decided to leave. I do not know what was wrong with me or my sister for everyone else to get acknowledged and helped out but not us. I do not like making things about looks, race , color, etc but I think that might have been the problem. We did not look like everyone else that was shopping there. read more

I had the absolute BEST experience here! I walked in and was very overwhelmed with all of the merchandise, but it didn't last long. I asked for help in finding a dress for prom to fit my style and the sales people easily navigated through the dresses to help me find my prom dress. It was AWESOME quality, but was too big in the bust area. Luckily Whatchamacallit has an in-store alterations place and they are magical. They completely re-did the top of my dress to fit me and it looks PERFECT. The owner also price-matched my dress which really helped me out. I highly recommend going here. Terrible customer service; they do not help you and the whole store seems chaotic and unorganized. I had to wait more than an hour to get a dressing room. Yet this store did have quite a few dresses, I would not recommend it at all. First off the store was moderately difficult to find. Not only that, the dresses dragging the floor, some were torn. The staff is impossible to get to help you. The store is sorted by color and it was hard to find multiple sizes in any certain dress. Don't have your dress altered by Tina located inside the store. My daughter brought her dress home after Tina completed the alterations and I could see she was upset. The alterations were horrible. The hem wasn't straight, it was too tight in the mid section and actually had an oil stain. The bust on the side had stitching that was totally visible that Tina told my daughter was good because it was what Tina called Magic Stitch. This magic stitch looks terrible. I spent almost $500 for a dress that has been ruined because of Tina's alterations. I'm telling you, don't use the alterations services inside the store. As expensive as these dresses are, I can't believe the store has such terrible alteration services. read more

I had high hopes for this dress store. I have heard of it for years as being the place of legends, "dress heaven" and so on. I was SHOCKED at the poor quality, outdated styles, overpricing and general upkeep of the store. Dresses are snagged, dirty, sequins falling off, beads discolored and poorly designed. Several of them appeared to have been worn several times, one even had a zipper seam repaired in a different color of thread as the rest of the dress! To be honest, I've seen better dresses at yard sales. I wouldn't have taken these dresses if they were free, much less for the $300-$500 range they were priced. My daughter did find a couple of dresses that she liked but price was outrageous. After reading other reviews, it seems the prices are negotiable but I don't play that game. After leaving this store, we found the exact same dress my daughter wanted at Macy's for $120 dollars less. I was totally appalled....did I miss something?? Yikes, where do I begin? Being a parent of 5 girls, and buying many party dresses, I have unfortunately become a fixture at this shop, during my thousand visits with my girls, I have witnessed so many things that are wrong about this "business". As soon as you walk in (depending on who is working that day) you will either be greeted in a lousy, apathetic manner or will be left confused as there will sometimes be no one around, and when you do find a sales person they are usually found goofing off and not tending to their customers. The employees never care to ask simple questions that retailers normally would ask, such as: if you've been in the store before, or what you are looking for/need? The only compassionate sales woman is Althelia. One of the Managers, Megan (i think her name was), can be heard talking badly about some of the customers from behind the registers, and some of the girls can clearly be seen texting away on their cellphones. It is evident that this store is not properly managed. When this place gets busy, the girls run around like chickens without heads. If and ONLY IF you can get someone to help you pick out a dress, you will be brought into a fitting room that is poorly cleaned, and then will proceed to be left abandoned as the sales person will never check up on you again. The Sales Women here are very choosy, and will only cater to you if you are not a minority. The owner, Gary Graham claims to have the best sales women and will set aside any major issues that are of concern. Do yourselves a favor ladies, don't bother stepping foot into this store. You will save time, money, and your frustrations. If you want better quality service take your business to Terry Costa's. You will spend a third of the cost you would normally spend here at Whatchamacallit's. After all... the name suits this type of store. read more
