She didn't try to go over my budget- which made me want to shop and look around more and made me feel more comfortable, was friendly, not pushy to get a sale and very very helpful. Have shopped at this store in the past for dresses, and had a positive experience, but last week experienced really rude behavior by a sales associate. I was shopping with my daughter for a prom dress, and I always encourage to try on as many styles as possible to find what you truly like. While trying on, our sales associate took a break and asked another to cover for her. After returning, I heard the other sales associate say to ours, "This girl needs to stop trying on so many dresses. I am tired of hanging them up." WHAT?! I was shocked and appalled. I ended up taking my business to another local dress store, where the sales associates were more than happy to help us, right up until closing time, with a great attitude. Got my pageant gown here. Very large selection of dresses! Not the most high quality or expensive gowns but these can be altered and turned into your own. Customer service is pretty good as well. The nice blonde lady helped me and was very attentive. You're not going to find Couture gowns here, more of a special occasion place with a bit of sparkle. read more

I really do not understand why NO ONE has written a good review about this place. It is awesome, and I really do miss it now that I no longer live in the DFW area. It's literally the place you need and want to go for ANY FORMAL affair. Their stock is MASSIVE of cocktail and formal attire. Prom. Homecoming. Military ball. New Years Eve. Navy/Marine Corps Ball. Weddings. Quinceañeras. You name it, they got it! Seriously I think Wal Mart is actually smaller in comparison to the store size. Get ready to HUNT! Do not shop this store if you are not a red blooded Texas woman willing to dig for the PERFECT dress. You want a nice, slim fitting, jersey or silk gown that you can toss in a suit case for a cruise.... and shop for in less than 3 hours... keep driving to Dillards or Macys in Willow Bend or Frisco... Retail, off the rack, is right up your alley. The last time I came here was December of 2012 shopping for New Years Eve dress that made a statement! (I know, super late in the season, what the hell was I thinking?) They do organize the dresses by colors.... because let's face it... women should know what kind of color looks best on them.... I'm a pale, apple, size 8 red head with green eyes... Will I ever wear a white, orange, pink, or red dress? No! Because those colors clash with my hair and make me look sickly! Send me straight for the greens, blues, purples, and multi's! I think it's really refreshing to have dresses organized by color, and sizes small to large, front to back. You can run into this place and take 10 dresses to the dressing room in less than 30 minutes if you have to. That being said... you also need to know how to shop formal wear when you shop a place as massive as this is. Almost all the brands here are designer... Sherri Hill, Scala, Torri Boggs, etc. And all the latest collection (like Fall 2013) is in the front of the store.... IE the most expensive dresses. Keep digging through the store... you will find cheaper prices the farther back you go. But you also risk getting less of a name brand too. And running into the returns or damaged upon arrivals section. (Your rock bottom price if you are tight on budget). All of the accessories are ordered to match the current designer trends. To include jewelry, hair accessories, and shoes. 10 years ago, you could get better prices at Sam Moons on Harry Hines Blvd for pageant and formal wear jewelry, but now I find this place is pretty even matched. If you have a dress, and cant order online due to time restrictions, you can easily find accessories up the wazoo here. When you come here, time is your enemy. You will try on 10+ dresses. You should NEVER EVER put a dress in your dressing room unless it is in your budget. Designer dresses are expensive and the price only gets higher with alterations, which they do on site, with quality tailors. (but does, also take, at least a week or more). I said quality tailors, not your tía with a pair of safety pins. Quality tailors take time. The staff is friendly and supportive... but do not think you are going to some bridal boutique where you will have a personal shopper. Like I said... this for TEXAS women, who view shopping as a sport and we are as deadly as any redneck with a gun. Especially if you are coming here in high season times (May, September or December). The weekend I went for my New Years Eve dress, was before a very large Texas pageant, help was available... but know you are coming here for: high selection, at good prices. You should come with your mom, or at least a few friends. The staff will help you find replacement sizes, but it's better to have an army hunting for you instead of just one person. You should always haggle a little bit too. You would be amazed the 10-20% discounts you can talk your way into here.... which is good, because that will cover the commission of the helper you do have. Helpers will only really go the extra mile when they have seen you zero in on the last 5 dresses. And lets face it... when you got 10 fitting rooms and a store this size... they only have so many employees. Their one fault is that they are understaffed for weekends. Finding a nice dress without a ton of rhinestones was impossible, not improbable, IMPOSSIBLE We found one bandage style that didn't look like an 8th grader got a hold of it with a bedazzler. It was not nice. It was however $300. Service pretty much disappeared after we got in the front door. Everything is way overpriced. Way WAY overpriced. I found similar dresses at Dillard's for way less. Also, BCBG at the Allen Outlet has a lot of nice dresses for way less. Seriously, is this a daily wear. If you're curvy skip this store. They have a section called "Curvy Corner" but there were only a few dresses in this area and most poorly constructed. Two of the ones I tried were made of a cheaper satin type fabric which almost made them look like costumes. Some of the dresses were raveling and looked like a first year Home Economics student made them, really. Even those were overpriced. Some dresses had no prices on them. What !?! I'd been to Whatchamacallit years ago when they were in a different location. They needed more floor space at the old location and just getting through the rounders would give you a head ache. The new location is more roomy. I gave the store 2 stars and not one because the new location is an improvement, and perhaps if you're not a curvy girl and have a good deal of "cheese" you can find a nice dress there. If you want a formal gown try Terry Costa on Preston Rd in Dallas or Group USA in Grapevine Mills Mall. read more

Great! Found my prom dress. Had such a great selection and for the most part had my size. I'm petite, but they did have a whole section dedicated to plus sizes. Treasure was very helpful! She hung my dresses while I looked around and waited on my dressing room. That was one factor I adored, I didn't have to carry around those heavy dresses. Arpyl was also very helpful as she gave me advice on altering dresses and adding nice touches to the dresses. She also picked out her personal favorites that she thought I would like. The dresses are well-made and they have a pretty broad collection. Overall I am very happy about my purchase and glad to feel less stressed! read more

I was taken to a section that was not organized at ALL, just racks of chaos that may contain the size I wanted. Yes, the gowns are a little more than I wanted to spend, but the dress selected is one that is an exclusive, so it is likely that no one will be wearing it and it is the designer's current year, NOT a knock-off or previous year. Alterations is going to check every bead and make sure they are secure. Meghan was very professional, helpful, and not pushy at all. It was a great shopping experience for us for Homecoming. This store also has a great selection for Margarita Ball, Cattle Barron's Ball, House of DIFFA events, and others that cater to an older crowd, not just for Prom and Homecoming. read more

This place it chaos. Its not worth the time it takes to find the color of the dress you want and then searching to find your size. The sequins on the dresses are falling apart but then again you can work this to your advantage by getting $150-$200 off of something that you can repair for $5. I think this is an excellent place for people that dont get frusterated easily and dont mind being overcharged. I strongly suggest this store to circus go-ers. I bought a gorgeous beaded gown for a black tie affair. The dress was made with a cut out in the back which I didn't want. Ms. Tina in the alterations dept used a piece from the long beaded train to cover the back cut out. It was secured w snaps. I have never in my ENTIRE life experienced such fabulous customer service! Due to forgetting to pack a formal that I needed for an event in Dallas, I frantically ran into this store on Friday at 5pm in hopes of finding ANYTHING to wear for an event scheduled for 7pm that same night! I was skeptical (because we all know how complicated dress shopping/alteration can be) but as soon as I walked in, Aretha, the most fabulous personal shopper ever scooped me up and saved the day! She asked me the details, scurried off to find something "fabulous" for me and was back within 5 minutes with 3 beautiful selections. Within 20 minutes, we chose the perfect one, she shuffled me into the alteration room and within 45 minutes, I was walking out with a beautiful dress, shoes and earrings. I walked into my event at exactly 7pm that night, RIGHT ON TIME and have to say it was one of the most amazing dresses I've ever worn. They have a good selection but: -I don't like the way they display the dresses. No coverings or bags over them. The result is that dresses have snags, get caught on other dresses and so some (many) of them are damaged. -Went in the other day, during the week, and the music they were playing was just awful. Songs with suggestive (very) lyrics and full of profanity such as the F word and the N word. Perfect for a special occasion dress shop. So classy. Will not be back. read more

This place is complete and utter chaos, buuuut they are the only place in town that had what we were looking for so they get 3 stars. My mom needed a sheer black jacket/wrap thing with sleeves for my wedding - which proved to be impossible to find pretty much. I called Whathchamacallit and they said they could make one for her so we stopped in and bought a sheer black wrap for $10 and the seamstress measured my mom and pinned the wrap to turn it into a jacket-y shawl thing for $50.
