They also have vegetarian, fruit and chocolate crepes. They are open until 2am. Not that we'd ever need it, it's nice to know. Solid! We spent 3 weeks in Paris in the springtime and I fell even more in love with crêpes and galettes while there, so naturally I'm searching for good crêpes at home. Creperie on Ludlow St came up in my search and we happened to be down that way on Sunday. I'm also a huge ice cream and gelato fan, but husband is lactose intolerant so he prefers non-dairy. Last year we discovered the amazing vegan ice cream at Orchard Grocery, but I wanted the real thing this trip and he apparently hadn't wanted a frozen treat at all so wouldn't do Orchard Grocer for himself and a different place for me. Happy medium? Share a good crêpe! We found it at Crêperie. SO many choices, many similar to ones we loved in France. Extensive selection, but it didn't take long to decide on the apple-walnut-caramel crêpe to share, costing not much more than 2 ice creams. We watched the lone young man as he poured batter onto the round griddle to just the perfect thinness; as he expertly flipped it; as he loaded on plenty of apple compote, plenty of walnuts, and gently squeezed caramel sauce. Then he folded it into a neat rectangle, scooped it into an exactly the same size pan, flipped the whole thing over onto another griddle and left it to heat while he made a crêpe for the person behind us. At exactly the right moment (was he watching the clock? or maybe he's just THAT good!), he flipped it over, slid the crêpe onto a plate, artistically drizzled more caramel sauce on top and then gently shook some powdered sugar over it. Handed me 2 forks and knives and we sat on stools at the counter for our Sunday afternoon treat! Excellent! They have several savory crêpes (in Paris, those were usually buckwheat crêpes called galettes) and many sweet ones. Unfortunately it's more of a takeout place, with just the few stools at a counter inside, and a couple of small tables outside. Unfortunately, I visited this place at opening time after traveling on the subway and it was CLOSED with a sign on the door saying opening at 1 pm. It would not have been such an inconvenience if it wasn't raining and there was no place to stand for 2 hours. I hopped back on the subway as my only option as I was hungry, cold and wet. After taking the wrong direction to Marcy Ave and getting back on track decided to come back. Since I was staying in the Lower East Side for a few days, I made it my mission to look up all of the sweet, cavity-inducing treats near the hotel. Being only a few blocks away and rated fairly high, Creperie popped up on my search so I knew I had to stop by on one of my evening walks back from the office. Although a rather tiny little shop, Creperies manages to still have some very limited seating right outside. As well as counter space inside the shop if you don't mind standing and crowding with other people waiting for their orders. I ordered the Strawberry and Banana crepe as it seemed to be a popular option. Size-wise, this crepe is pretty hefty and filling. Comes in an aluminum container so it's much less messy to grab and go. Although sweet, I felt the crepe itself was just ok. Nothing about it really stood out nor made it particularly memorable. This was one place I KNEW I had to visit when I made it to New York. The location on Macdougal street was randomly closed when we arrived without any reason which was upsetting since we traveled by subway to get there. Very rude workers, I sat down for about 10-15 in the outdoor dining area that's in the street. Before the guy that usually makes the crepes rudely came out and said me and my significant other had to move. He said two young ladies that were already sitting and eating their food had to move to our spot. The ladies looked at us in confusion and was saying no we are fine, we never asked to be moved. I used to love this place. Last night I stopped by for the first time in a while to get one of my favorites - a baked apple and cinnamon crepe. I was shocked to find that it had gone from $9 to $15.50 in just a year or so, but I got it anyway. One of few dessert places open at 12am when my friend and I were looking for a place to chill and catch up so we went on Yelp and walked over to this hole in the wall place! It's a pretty tiny place with seatings along the wall as well as a couple seats in the restaurant. Sitting next to the grill was probably not the best idea, especially in the summer but it cooled down after a while when the chef wasn't constantly making the crepes. We ordered the Famous Crepe which came with Nutella, Strawberries, and Banana which was a bit too sweet for me (probably the nutella) but nonetheless really delicious. I liked the fluffy texture and how thin it was and best of all, it wasn't overcooked! I will probably opt for something more savory next time to balance out the sweetness of the nutella but the fruits was definitely a nice touch. I did see the chef make something that looked like philly cheesesteak which looked quite interesting. It'll be on my list of flavors to try next! It was also nice that we were able to sit there for hours without being kicked out. Give this place a try with its many unique flavors. Strawberries were going bad, giving off a alcoholic, fermented flavor and aroma, also mushy, wouldn't eat these even at home. Cheesecake "topping" is a slice of cheesecake on your crepe...Everything was sickeningly sweet, in a definitely bad way. Sits like a rock in an unsatisfied stomach.
