As far as local coffee joints go - this one's the best I've been to so far. They have your standard sandwiches, paninis, cookies etc. a huge selection of drinks, espressos, lattes, any combination of syrups and caffeine that you can think of. They blow Starbucks out of the water. The main selling point is the employees, they know EVERYONE. People walk by and wave and they wave back, people come in just to say hello and grab a quick coffee and the owner whos always there knows each by name, even remembers what drinks they like. You never see old fashioned customer service like this! This is the way to run a business deep down, connecting with all the customers. They have a few coffee shops around beverly but I've only ever been to this one. It's a bit of a drive for me, so whenever I decide to go all the way here, its only for What's Brewin. They are cash only which is tough for me, but I can't complain since they have so much positive going for them. It's definately a place you need to go to if you like coffee. read more

Always have great experiences with Neil and the guys at What's Brewin. I started going here during college because they had real breakfast sandwiches. They have a fantastic coffee/espresso selection, and their sandwiches are delicious. They are cash only, so make sure you bring money! They also have some delicious homemade pastries up front that you will be tempted to grab like their Apple Cider Donuts. Prices are average, I think a large coffee and a breakfast sandwich will run you just over $5. If you do go between 10-11 it can get pretty busy with college kids. read more

Love this place!! Sad I didn't find it until my senior year of college, but enjoyed it while I was there. Their sticky bun iced coffee and strawberry shortcake latte are my favorites. This place has SO many coffee and latte flavors! Their pastries are outstanding, as well as their sandwiches. Staff always welcomes you with a smile and is happy to take your order, regardless of how busy they are (which can be a line out the door on weekends). Im not really a fan of this place only giving it 2 stars because there bagels are awesome and there cream cheese is delicious the vegi one has chunky vegies its the best. Other than that their coffee i dont like i get no energy from it. The ice coffee has way to much ice its insane. I ask for light ice and they still give you a ton. I was so disappointed in their coffee i didnt go back for a while. The only thing that brought me back were their bagels. Their employees are not the brightest. My order was screwed up many different times. One time i asked for egg cheese bacon on croissant to go, i went home and there was no egg in it !!!! I called them they said thats what i ordered like whattt! I ordered bacon egg and cheese . Not a bacon and cheese. Doesnt even make sense. For those reasons i will not be returning. read more

I love this place. Great food, great coffee. But after today, I'll probably never go back since I had to wait 45 minutes for 2 bagels. People who ordered 30 minutes after me got their food before me. If you get slammed with people on the weekend, maybe hire a second person to handle the food (and organizing the orders based on who ordered first would probably help too). I've never gone in during the week so it may be a lot better than weekends. But I'll be finding a new place to go from now on because waiting 45 minutes for a bagel isn't worth it. read more

I used to frequent What's Brewin. I stopped for a number of reasons. First, the coffee is terrible. They do have a big selection of different coffees, but it is far from quality. Many of my friends rave about the lattes. The seemingly infinite variety is very impressive, but they are too sweet for my taste. Most of the staff at Brewin is not very friendly. I went there daily for months, and it seemed like they did not even recognize me. The owner, Neil, is nice though. The atmosphere at Brewin is strange. It seems like you are in a closet. The chairs are very flimsy. The tables are too small, but that is only because of the limited space. Whenever I sit down, I feel like I am being rushed out. They make it obvious that they do not want you to eat there. I do like the social aspect of Brewin. There are always kids there, so I can almost assume that I'll see someone I know. The only reason why I still stop by from time to time is their breakfast sandwiches. They are very cheap and delicious. I recommend the Egg, Pepper, and Provolone on an Everything Bagel. It is fantastic. I have never been disapointed by a sandwich there. What's Brewin is perfect for kids that pretend to like coffee. You can barely taste the espresso in their lattes. I would recommend Brewin to people that are new to drinking coffee. read more

Beware! You will be REFUSED a refund if you don't enjoy their product! I went to What's Brewin' Cafe this morning with my husband for coffee and bagels. I was served a cup of coffee with a filthy lid on it! I had to request a new lid, because I couldn't bear to drink out of it! To make matters worse I made my way back to the table in the crowded and cramped cafe, and took my first sip of coffee, and it was watered down, I couldn't even drink it! I went up to the counter after I finished my breakfast, and I quietly told the cashier my coffee was watered down, and I would like a refund. The cashier asked if I would like something else. I replied that I was served a coffee with a filthy lid and coffee that was watered down, and that I didn't want anything else except my money back for the coffee that I didn't drink. I was told that I could only pick something else, and they wouldn't refund my money. After arguing for a few minutes a man behind the counter (who was making the coffee) said to give me a refund before I make a scene. I told the man that they were making a scene by not refunding my money (less than $2.00). My advice after this experience is to see what else is brewin' at another coffee shop that is respectful to their customers! read more

I'm only giving two stars instead of one because I do like their breakfast sandwiches. The coffee however, is horrible. Like many other reviewers have said, the coffee is really watered down. I have gotten either an ice coffee or an ice cappuccino from there the past few times and they are always disappointing. Instead of keeping the ice coffee either cold or room temperature like it should be, the boiling hot coffee from the pots is poured over an overfilled cup of ice. What your left with is a watery substance that vaguely tastes like coffee and it's not even filled up all the way! I have gotten the "eye-opener" before that the owner always recommends, I guess it is a type of espresso shot, and I'm sorry, it is absolutely disgusting and will ruin your coffee even more. Also, come on buddy its 2015, what kind of food establishment still doesn't accept credit or debit cards? Get with the program! read more

I had heard this place wasn't bad, so my friend and I tried it a few weeks ago (Apr. 2016). I would never go back to this place. Firstly, I don't know they could possibly be licensed to have as many tables and chairs in that small space as they do, there is no room at all in there. Secondly, places that are cash only seem suspect to me, and it's a huge inconvenience to me to not be able to use a card to pay. I could have got past those things, but the food just isn't very good. I ordered a bagel sandwich with sausage, and a toasted onion bagel with scallion cream cheese. I was told that they don't have a regular scallion cream cheese, and that theirs has bacon in it. I love bacon, so I gave it a try, and was extremely disappointed. It tastes like those disgusting bacon bits that come in a jar in the spice aisle of the supermarket, and there weren't just a few of them, there was tons of them. And the sausage in my bagel sandwich was not very good either. If you want run of the mill, microwaved crap, I would suggest the dunkins next door, as its about half the price of this place. read more

Love this place. I read a review where the person gave a crappy review on this place because of loud people out front. That has nothing to do with the rating of the place of business. They can't control that. Atomic cafe is getting it's lunch eaten by this place. Some mornings I can't even get in the door. Neil is awesome and the coffees are unique and hot. Also you can get bagels all day not just until they run out at 9:00am (Atomic) If someone who owns or works at this place is reading this please know this: You have incredible potential. This is just the beginning. People love your place and are flocking to it. This is EXACTLY what downtown needed. A breakfast place that actually serves good food without angry yuppies scowling at you and over burned micro brew coffee. A good breakfast sandwich or bagel and a coffee, hot and fast.
