Poor office staff. Receptionist is always short and rude on the phone. I'd never come here after my phone experience.

I have been extremely happy with the work done by Dr. Foxson and the service provided by his staff. The procedure starts with a consultation. After examining the x-rays and my teeth, he discussed a plan of action. Everything was clearly explained. I then talked with the office manager who discussed what the cost would be, what my insurance was likely to cover, and how much I would be responsible for. After agreeing to the costs, we scheduled appointments. Both extractions were from my lower jaw and I had them done under local anesthetic with nitrous oxide. The procedures went well with only minimal discomfort. The pain afterward minimal and gone after only a couple of days. The evening after the procedure, Dr. Foxson personally called me to see how I was doing. I appreciated that. Not many medical professionals provide that level of follow up. I also had the post implanted under local anesthetic with nitrous oxide. I experienced no pain and only minimal discomfort during the procedure (owing mainly to all the apparatus in my mouth). Afterward, I had absolutely no pain and just some gum tenderness which abated after a couple of days. Again, Dr. Foxson called me that evening to see how doing (just fine). All in all, I am very happy with the procedures carried out by Dr. Foxson and the caring and professionalism of his staff. I give Naperville Oral Surgery my highest recommendation. One thing to note: Naperville Oral Surgery requires payment of your expected out-of-pocket expenses at the time of your appointments. Not an unreasonable expectation, just something people should be aware of and prepared for.

I endured the most horrific experience of my life at Ace Oral Surgery today…read more I suffer from severe anxiety, as well as other underlying chronic pain disease. I had 2 extractions done by Ace oral a few months ago, and was pleased. The dentist was kind and very competent in autoimmune disorders and anxiety and treatments. He prescribed me anxiety medicine for this procedure, and I followed his directions. Overall, the procedure went well, barely overcoming my anxiety. The dental assistant was fabulous, caring, and kind. Now, today I went in for a tooth to be extracted. This time the dentist prescribed another type of anxiety medicine for my second procedure. Again, I followed his directions on how to take this medication. I did this and my daughter walked me in. The receptionist laughed at me as my daughter walked me in to the procedure room. She told my daughter to wait to see if the surgeon was going to perform my extraction. I sat in the office and waited for the dentist as his assistant numbed my mouth. When the dentist walked in he said, "Are you ready?" I cried and asked if I can take a half of one of the medication to help ease my increased panic. He became upset, saying, "No No No, you are drunk." You are not getting any more. I replied, "I am not drunk, I am nervous." He went on to say , "You are a problem patient and get off of my chair." I got up still half loopy and cried for my daughter who was waiting in the office area. He accused me of trying to manipulate him. He called me a drug addict. I am a teacher and not a drug addict. I felt that this dentist insulted me and brought me severe distress. I do not want anyone else to endure this behavior, especially when they are in pain. I have an appointment with another dentist and oral surgeon. After all of this, I pray for the dentist and his staff who lack compassion and judge people by their beliefs.

I needed an extraction which was covered by my insurance. So, I went to Ace Oral Surgeons…read more The dentist wanted me to be sedated via IV so that I "would be comfortable." Concerned, I asked if anesthesia was completely necessary as I've had molars extracted previously & not required anesthesia. And, this wasn't even a molar or wisdom tooth. To be placed unconscious seemed, to me, not necessary. My dental plan agreed. They cover everything except the sedation (Why? Because it's very expensive & often not necessary. Esp. in my case.). His office staff told me, flat out, that I needed to cough-up $850 immediately, then & there, and consent to the anesthesia before any work would be done. The dentist refused to extract the tooth unless he was getting $850 + whatever the insurance's share. I said, "bye bye." Came home & called another doc. One thing I noticed was how small their office was and that there were no patients. Now, I know why. Unless you're a fool with lots of money to give away, they will not accept you as one of their patients.

Pain, discomfort and swelling is very minimal, so much better than anticipated. I found all the staff members to be friendly and sweet. I'll be going back to remove the others in the Fall.

Because of that positive experience, I brought my 9-year old son in today to have a tooth removed. My son has some special needs - he has severe ADHD, a learning disability and intense anxiety about pain. During our consultation with Dr. Scherer last month, I informed him of this and explained that my son has anxiety and fear (somewhat disproportionate to a normal level) when it comes to pain. I said, he will be VERY afraid and wI'll likely cry. I asked Dr. Scherer what he could do to help alleviate the fear. Answer: a child's dose of Valium the night before and morning of, and either laughing gas or IV sedation. I assumed those would be coupled with some understanding and a little empathy and maybe compassion for a terrified CHILD. OMG!!!! NOTHING could be farther from that. Dr. Scherer showed no empathy or compassion. Basically, he scared my son even more by saying "We can either do this now, here - or in the hospital." He demonstrated no care or understanding that my son was terrified. In fact, Dr. Scherer's demeanor was brusque, curt and slightly aggressive. He was unkind in that he used my son's fear against him instead of found or saying ANYTHING to try to allay his fear... even a little. My son was being brave and 'keeping it together' until we were told that I wasn't allowed to go into the room to hold his hand. Per Dr. Scherer, APPARENTLY, having a parent in the room makes the situation worse. Ok, maybe. I'll never know. But, I never expected the callous, brusque manner of Dr. Scherer today. I don't understand why this "hard-a$$" approach was necessary or appropriate for a scared, terrified kid with cognitive challenges. Shame on you, Dr. Scherer.
