I have taken my bikes in twice to WnS. Both times, I had excellent service. Last summer, they managed to squeeze me in despite being extremely busy. Had my Lemond Zurich handle bars taped up and the bike looked over before riding RAGBRAI. Great job on the taping and it was a relief to know that the bike was in condition to ride across Iowa (even though I wasn't). Just got my Poprad back from the shop. Went in for a clean up. I was blown away by the job they did. The bike looks almost new again. Thorough work which is noticeable even by just glancing at the frame and drive train. Upon closer, inspection their work is even more impressive. See pics. Justin has always been most helpful every visit. Informative but never condescending, unlike some bike shop employees. He helped me pick out a good tape for my handlebars and recommended some great saddles for my road bike. Helped to order a new chain, too. And gave great instructions on how to clean up and maintain my disk breaks. He's always willing to take time to help and share his knowledge of bikes. Glad this shop is in Oak Park! read more

This is a great little local, independent Bike shop in Oak Park. The staff is super nice and super helpful. The technical staff are seriously on their game. Prices are good, and in line with other bike shops in the area. My only complaint, and it's minor, is that the shop isn't all that big. Don't get me wrong, they have a great selection of bikes and accessories for their size, and some of everything you might be looking for. But you won't find 100 bikes to choose from, or 100 different bike computers. Generally not a problem. Keep in mind that during covid, bikes have been in short supply and that is true of this place too. Guaranteed, Wheel and Sprocket is not my go-to bike shop! read more

I visited Wheel and Sprocket for an unusual repair and they didn't miss a beat. My tire was quickly fixed while I waited and the price was reasonable. My repair visit was my first visit, but I'll return for future biking (or unusual tire needs). With covid going on, it was time to get out and ride socially distant (by myself). Well I finally rattled off a couple of fender bolts, so I went online to find some. I could get them from France maybe by the end of September, but guess what? The great folks with spokes at Wheel and Sprockets in Evanston told me via email they could get me a package, I could pick it up at their Oak Park shop and soon. We'll today was pickup day. Kim waited on me, and I have to say that they will be my go to bike shop. Just the right amount of business with social distancing, I waited outside for just a couple minutes. I've been wanting to get a bike for sometime, I have a Peloton and was ready to change up my workout. I went to the Trek website and it listed W&S as an authorized Trek vendor. I took my boyfriend with, he wanted to join me on bike rides. My boyfriend and I arrived and waited in line (due to the pandemic it seems like everyone wants a bike) for about an hour. We were informed that we wouldn't be walking out with a bike today, all bikes in the shop were sold. If we purchased bikes they would arrive in 2 weeks, we were ok with that. We went in and was asked what we was looking for, we knew we wanted a hybrid but that was it. I got to try some bikes in the shop and was fitted to a bike size that was appropriate for my body, all while taking COVID precautions. My boyfriend purchased a Trek bike as well and went through the same process with me. The workers at W&S really knew their stuff, they were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in making our decision. We went to a different bike shop first prior to W&S and had the total opposite experience so I was very appreciative of having such a positive experience at W&S. This is now our go to shop, if we need service this is where we'll go. Our bikes arrived last week and we have been loving it! We've enjoyed a couple rides out on these last couple sunny days. read more

Straight up sales shop. Derailer was broken, they couldn't find one and stated they would have to go on eBay to locate one. In chain store language: your bike is old you, must purchases on of ours $2000. Asking me if they could hold on to the bike for me? Why would I, if you can't fix the derailer? Drove to my old chicago bike shop, got it fixed for $25. This local private owned shop had these rare derailers... Sure this store is great if you want something new, but for repairs, don't expect much effort on their part. read more

Keith was extremely helpful at the store. I have a cervical spine injury, which makes riding bicycles difficult. Keith recommended a couple of different styles of bike that I never would've thought of on my own, because I did not know they existed. He was conscientious and attentive. If I could rate these guys 10 stars, I would in a heartbeat!!! Where do I even begin. I've been on the hunt for a Trek FX Sport 6 for awhile and finally found one just north of Milwaukee at another Wheel and Sprocket location. I called that store (spoke with a super friendly associate) and he informed me they can transfer the bike free of charge to a store closer to me! I called this location (Oak Park) and spoke with AJ who was super friendly and beyond helpful! AJ helped ensure I had my whole setup including pedals and bike computer (he took a lot of time explaining different computer options for me with various price points). He helped coordinate the transfer and was very helpful!! I picked my new bike up a few days later and had the pleasure of working with David who was awesome. Super enthusiastic, extremely knowledgeable and helped me understand everything about my new carbon bike. He helped me adjust everything in store (seat/grips/breaks), showed me how to remove the front tire, even helped me pick out some accessories and a helmet. There wasn't a question he didn't know the answer to and again, his enthusiasm and knowledge was an absolute pleasure. I absolutely LOVE my new bike and have a good peace of mind knowing I can bring it back anytime within the first year for a free tune up or call with a question. I just had the most wonderful experience at this bike store. I literally know nothing about bikes and could have been easily taken advantage of as I walked in with my two little kids looking for a bike but the salesman Keith (who deserves a raise because clearly this man is just an all around stand-up guy) helped me for an hour. He saved me $200 on a bike for my daughter then the technician adjusted my son's training wheels for free. After, Keith spent the rest of the time teaching me how to train kids to ride a bike. For now on this family will only be purchasing bikes from this store, especially as long as Keith works there!!! read more

Great Store and great service. I'm one of the rare riders that still ride on tubular tires. I was replacing my current tires but didn't have tape! I called Wheel & Sprocket, on a Friday evening no less- still open ('till 7:00) - BONUS! They had one left. When I arrived. My Fat Tire, Trek Farley was obtained quickly whereas I could not find availability of high end products without a 12-24 month delay at my excellent local shops due to their limited size versus this one. Everyone I've met is so friendly and know what they're talking about. Nicely organized store. Good selection of accessories. Prices on parts and the floor air pump were competitive. I thought service was write expensive, but I don't have anything to compare it to. They did a nice job. I have not shopped there for actual bikes, but they seem to have a good selection. I was stressed with a pretty big move and forgot to put my bike on the moving truck! I didn't notice until long after the truck departed. I was in a panic. I started doing research & came across Wheel & Sprocket. The staff was friendly. They could clearly tell I was distressed and let me know my options. I was just looking for a bike shop to break down and package my bike. Then I was going to pick up the packaged bike and go to FedEx or UPS and ship it (all in 48 hrs because that's when I left). I felt such a weight lifted when I called and said just leave the bike with us and we'll take care of all of that! They did everything they said they would do. I purchased a bike and was sold a silver package that was to allow for a free tune-up. When I called, I asked if the silver pkg. was still in effect. After checking his computer, the guy who answered the phone said, "Yeah, just bring your bike in and we'll take care of it. We're backed up until mid-May but just drop it off...okay?" I then asked him again if the silver pkg was in effect and he said "No" "Oh, so there will be a charge then?" I asked. " Yes," he said, "$175." I then called Macks in Evanston. They charge $95 for the same service and can get the bike back to me in 8 days. Clearly, I was being hustled by Wheel & Sproket. The person I talked with avoided my question about whether the silver package was still in effect. As such, I wouldn't have found out about the $175 charge until I brought my bike in. Furthermore, the price is outrageous compared to competition. I've purchased two bikes and a number of repairs from Wheel & Socket. I'm certainly glad there is now another bike shop in town. read more

I don't live in the area but Wheel and Sprocket had a bike available online that I'd been looking for and couldn't find locally. I ordered it online and had it shipped to the Oak Park location which was a very effortless experience. They worked with me over email to pick out pedals beforehand so once I got there everything was ready to go. Over email and in-person, everyone was very friendly and helpful. The day I arrived to get my new bike, I liked that they were very thorough in their explanations! You can also just tell they are truly excited about you getting a new bike. I think the store has a great process for the working with customers while still adhering to COVID safety best practices too -- I felt very safe and comfortable at their store.
