It's a typical southern small town restaurant, but why I am giving it five stars is because I have never had a bad experience there. I've been going there a couple of times a month for over a year now because of work and I have never had a bad experience. The staff is friendly. The food is always good. From the chicken fried steak to the burgers to the grilled chicken salad, it's all good. And if you love John Wayne, you will love this place. read more

My husband and I were driving through Oklahoma to get to Texas and stopped in this little diner to stay out of the storm. It had friendly waitstaff, delicious food and a fun environment. The chicken fried steak was awesome. I'd definitely recommend. read more

I got the roastbeef sandwich is was old and nasty the meet was going bad , they need to change the grease. The gravy looked like pudding.

Kind server, fair prices, excellent food. The mashed potatoes are homemade and the catfish was yummy. Generous servings, too. The hamburger tasted homemade and the patty was thick and cooked perfectly. The desserts looked great...but we were too full. Nice & easy stop...right on the highway. We waited a full hour for our meals to come. Other customers who came in after us were served first. After 45 minutes we asked the waitress about our orders, and she said that it would be soon. 15 minutes later my friend went to the counter and was told that they were cooking it. What? After almost an hour? They brought my friends' food finally, and after a few minutes another plate came up that looked like my order. Two gals behind the counter seemed to be ignoring it, so I went up to ask for it. "Oh, yes, that's yours," she said. "I'm waiting for the other plates on you table to come up." I had to tell her they already had theirs. We were standing less than 10 feet from our table. Another couple who came in about the same time we did also waited an hour. The place wasn't that busy. Was recommended the cheeseburger and wasn't disappointed at all. It was delicious. My friend had the catfish platter special. I snatched a bite and agreed with her that it was great. Servings were large and plentiful. We tried the fresh baked coconut creme pie that was still warm and from being freshly baked- amazing! Bathrooms were clean with a cute decor. Restaurant was cozy with it's cowboy and John Wayne theme. Eva was our server and she was so nice and friendly. Just what you would hope to find in a place like this. Worth the stop!! read more

Wheelers Restaurant - Salad Near Me - Kiowa, Oklahoma

I've been coming here literally since before I was born (my mom ate here when she was pregnant with me, haha) and every single year after. We used to live in Dallas and travel to see family in Tulsa at least twice a year every year. We have NEVER not stopped at Wheeler's on a trip, ever. It's like a sin not to. I remember the open faced hot beef sandwich from when I was younger, and nowadays I like to change it up a bit. Even the milk tastes better than regular milk. LOL. The fried chicken salad is amazing. The pancakes are amazing. All of it is fantastic. The pies are to die for. I'll actually be traveling back to Dallas with a friend for spring break tomorrow and we will 100% be stopping here on the way. Can't wait. I have so many memories here. I remember the year it burned down on thanksgiving, too. That was awful. So glad it's back. read more

It's not the best, but when your super hungry on a long drive it's not all that bad.. Almost everything is fried but what else can you expect in a little southern diner? The curly fries were great!!! I strongly DO NOT recommend the cheese sticks... Popcorn shrimp was decent, they use real shrimp which was a plus! Other than that, I don't think I'll be back unless I just can't wait too eat at our destination. read more

We were passing through the area and needed to stop for a late dinner tonight on our way home. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice and the staff was very friendly. The food was excellent and the portion size was generous. We were surprised at how quickly our food was served. Of course it was after 8:00 pm and we were the only ones who were ordering that late, but I have a feeling they are normally pretty quick. We decided if we pass through the area again, we will definitely stop. read more

Great stop for dinner right on Hwy 69 on our way home to Dallas! Chicken fried steak dinner and brisket dinner special were both delicious! They had run out of the coconut cream pie (maybe we will get some on our next trip through town). The strawberry shortcake was a yummy second choice! Service was friendly and attentive. My husband I have passed by this restaurant numerous times and have always thought to stop. Finally today we did. Cutest country and western little restaurant we have seen since moving to Oklahoma. The decor is adorable from the ceiling right down to ...well the tables are hideously ugly. Which is a shame because you don't see all the adorable memorabilia and decoration for awhile. The food is good, stick to your ribs yummy. Highly recommend the patty melts. They come steaming hot from the kitchen with a heapin' mound of fries. We also enjoyed a round of jalapeño poppers. I'm on a strict diet so I just ordered the cottage cheese. It was large curd and fresh. Very yummy. The waitress was very welcoming and made sure we were well taken care of. Price was good for the amount of food. I HIGHLY recommend if you are driving through Kiowah, stop for a bite to eat. You'll enjoy it (not the table and chairs though ) read more

Gross! Plain and simple!! How in the world they have as many stars that they do , I'll never know!!!! Driving from IL to TX we thought we'd give it a try because of the reviews. Ordered the roast beef sandwich and roast beef plate. She came out with some packaged roast beef with a heaping slop of gravy on it and fries that looked like they'd been cooked several different times and just cold and greasy. Then she said the cook made a mistake and made you the hot beef sandwich. I told her that was okay I'll just have that. That was before we'd dug into it!! YUK!! THE BEEF SMELLED OLD!!!! My mashed potatoes were cold and so was the gravy!!! I don't mean a little cold, I mean stone cold!! Ain't going there ever again!! And it was $30!!! For what??? I also saw her set aside the crackers and other cups of dressing we didn't eat with our salad!!!! He'll no!!! read more

Ooops, Drove all the way from Norman (114miles) only to be disappointed. I ordered a sirloin which came out dry and gray in color. No taste, juice and very thin. The salad was good as were the fried mushrooms. My wife had the chicken fried steak and was somewhat happy with it. Doubt if we will visit again. Sorry. read more

TERRIBLE! I drove to OK with my family this past weekend and we searched for a place to eat. We stopped at Wheelers in Kiowa, OK for a late breakfast. It was a little past 12 and we were told that breakfast was not available. I ordered the roast beef. I was speechless when I received my meal! There were 4 slices of roast beef(?) on my plate that looked worse than anything I can ever remember seeing at a restaurant. With NO exaggeration, it looked (and smelled) as if someone took the lowest grade of roast beef, over cooked it, sliced it thick, and put it in the fridge uncovered, for about a week. I kid you not! I took a picture and do not see any where to add it. I was just speechless when she put my plate down! There were two reasons I could think of. 1) They are the only restaurant in like a 20 mile radius and do not care what they serve people. 2) They had no idea what they served me was gross because they do not know any better. Either way, I was disgusted and walked out to my car while the rest of my family ate. read more
