Oh my goodness this place was phenomenal. Probably one of the best restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. They mix traditional Jamaican and Soul food phenomenally and not to mention the portions are HUGE! The inside had a great atmosphere with great music and everyone from the staff to the other patrons were friendly. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone.

First time here and I already want to come back!! The food was so damn yummy!! I knew the second I got there and the line was to the door that the food would be worth the wait and it was. The employees were super friendly and attentive they checked every single order before giving us our food.

Shout out to wheres the jerk In Durham on South Miami Boulevard for having the best Jamaican Food I've had since leaving NYC! I've been searching for an authentic Jamaican restaurant in NC with the classic mom & pops feel of the ones from The Bronx but have come up short everytime. Finally, I've found one that gives me that nostalgic feel of being back home! If you're looking for great service, authentic, diverse and flavorful Jamaican food boasting in the traditional seasonings and spices of this Caribbean cuisine that will feed your soul, head over asap and give them a try! My personal favorite is the Oxtail Dinner with Mac & Cheese, Candied Yams & Sweet Plantains!!!...Don't forget the extra oxtail gravy

    Curry Chicken Lunch Special

Came here one random weekday for lunch. The line I saw as we entered was definitely a good sign. Unfortunately they ran out the Jerk chicken so we settled for the curry and stewed chicken lunch special. Totally forgot to order the patty though. There was a sign explaining why there might be a longer wait and were determined. The flavors of the curry sauce were flavorful and packed a small kick. Chicken pieces were plentiful. The rice and peas were well done and plantains were fried just right and created charred bits around the edges. The stew chicken was good, but flavors were less pronounced. Portions were generous and I love that. Would definitely come back for the Jerk and patties. Coming from Church St. in BK, I'm glad to have found this spot. I saw chopped cheese on the menu too, hmmmmmmm lol

I visited this restaurant THREE times within a week. My first time was last Saturday, 2nd Wednesday and was back that Friday. Shame, but when it's good I run it back. The first 2 times I got the stew chicken (comes with rice&peas) I chose cabbage and Mac&cheese for my sides. Stew chicken is delicious, has a little bit of a spice kick, but not too crazy. On the latest visit, I ordered the jerk steak&cheese. The steak&cheese was tasty, but I couldn't really taste anything jerk about it. I would definitely order again, but I would ask for a side of whatever jerk sauce they use. I've wanted to try the jerk chicken eggrolls, but they didn't have any on any of the days I visited New to the RDU area, so glad to have found this restaurant. Definitely going on my list for go-to GOODTTT BigBackPlates

Food was very greasy appears to be cooked in old oil coco bread was old falling apart the beef patty definitely tasted like it came from the freezer at Walmart and was deep fried in old grease super long wait for a small order disgusting

This was my second visit. They didn't disappoint. Customer service was pleasant both times. I ordered the jerk chicken egg rolls, cabbage & Turkey seasoned collard greens. Delicious. I shared it with my daughter. She loved the collards. Plenty of parking in the plaza. The inside is average but we all know those are the best places. I'm definitely returning for more.

Good food and portions. Get here early or get ready to get in line. The customers don't play about this place! They lined up and the line moves but more kept coming. There is also limited seating, almost picnic table style. Now onto the food. It was good. Not the best ever but no complaints. The house drink were phenomenal! Super duper sweet lemonade and other punches (yes I had more than one). So delicious.

The chicken is dark meat served on the bone - and by on the bone, I mean falling off the bone, it's so tender and moist. There are also some carrots and potato bits in the gravy, and I would happily eat a whole bowl of just those. The rice and peas (beans) were perfectly cooked. When I ordered through the Toast tab screens they have set up, it gave the option of indicating whether and how much gravy you'd like on the rice. I did the standard amount, which I think is just right, as the rice balances out the saltiness of the gravy. The mac & cheese was also really good - creamy, with some chewy baked cheese crust, and a hint of tanginess. The large portion was a ton of food. I shared my plate with my toddler, who loved the chicken, and it would be enough for at least one more meal. I also got a chicken patty, which had a curried chicken filling that brought a bit of heat. Too spicy for little kids, but not so spicy that I was hurting from eating it. We ate in the restaurant, which is clean with several tables. It's counter service, and it seems like they pack everything as if it's to go, even if you dine in. For folks with kids, they do have a single high chair. I don't remember seeing a changing table in the ladies room.

I was very disappointed when I arrived home and opened my container and find out they've given me cabbage instead of collards. Also, I ordered the large plate and the portions were small, smaller than I've ever had before. Both the plantains and jerk chicken were burnt, everything was exceptionally greasy. I won't be going back to Angie's anytime soon.

"Delicious Honduran food just south of I-85 on Guess Rd in Durham"…read more Came here on a Saturday evening a little after 6pm-- this is the building that used to be "Pad Thai" a few years ago. There's parking out front, but not a ton, and a bit more along the side. Inside, there's a counter by the door with a register and mints (and probably where one would pickup takeout), but you wait to get seated. The place was bright with interesting Central American paintings and lively music. A few tables were taken but it was hardly what I'd call "busy". I ordered the Tajada con carne molida (fried plantains with ground beef) off the "Honduran menu". My dining partner had a creamy chicken mofongo. We also had Jarritos sodas-- I got the pineapple and she had the tamarind. One awkwardness was that the menu didn't have any prices, but I assumed (correctly) that nothing would be crazy expensive that we ordered (though weirdly the tamarind and pineapple Jarritos were different prices). Service was good-- although English was a second language, our server made do, accurately took our order, and was attentive. As other reviewers noted, this is not a speedy place-- I think it was at or maybe over 20 minutes to get our food, but that was fine. Both dishes were really good. The creamy sauce on the mofongo was to-die-for... so yummy. And I enjoyed my plantain/ beef dish-- my dining partner said it was somewhat analogous to "nachos" in a funny way, and she's not wrong. The plantains were pretty stiff-- almost like plantain chips, but still yummy, and the beef and accompaniments were excellent (see photo). The quantity was HUGE-- both of us had enough easily for a second meal. Price wasn't bad-- with the drinks and tax and tip, it was slightly over $50 total. Overall, I'm very happy we tried this place, and I have every intention of coming back.

We never made it anywhere else lol! I'm so excited to write this review!! We chose it because when I reviewed the Yelp reviews they were stellar. But mostly I was super intrigued by the sweet potato cheesecake empanada and y'all it was everything I hoped it would be. It's small, you can maybe get 4 or 5 bites. The filling is sweet but not overpowering, good balance. The crust, crunchy and delicious. Came with a side of whipped cream. Drizzled in caramel sauce. I had the restraint to save it for last. We opted to split the shrimp sandwich and house made chips because we weren't too hungry and wanted to save room for the empanadas. Perfect plan. The sandwich can be ordered with a garlic, jerk or buffalo sauce. We were given a sample of the jerk to determine spicyness. Super spicy (which I loved) but my friend doesn't so we went with buffalo which wasn't spicy at all. The shrimp were a nice size, coated and seasoned well. The restaurant itself is small with about five tables but there is an abundance of outdoor seating shared with other businesses. We knew we planned to relax and catch up so we opted to eat outside. Despite the 90 degree weather, the entire area was shaded with a little wind so perfect. We got a number and our food and drinks were served to us. (Peach passion froze----yum!) Now. Boricua Soul is a great example of why I love seeking out and patroning local restaurants. The founders, Serena and Tori Fredericks, were both present, Serena managing the front, Tori managing the kitchen and both in and out of the restaurant serving people outside as well as inside. They were all over! Very welcoming. We were there for four hours and Serena's smile never left her face. She personally checked on us throughout. It felt like hanging out at your family's for the day. When we came in just a few people there, no line. Serena was at the register. I told her I came from Charlotte and she graciously gave us samples of the mac and cheese and collard greens as she described the menu. Both by the way, amazing! I don't think I've ever been able to find delicious perfectly seasoned greens with no meat. Before we knew it the line was to the door. By then I had the chance to experience her love for what she does and her heart for the community. Clean restaurant, beautiful and personable decor. Clean gender neutral private bathrooms. I took pics of the article on the wall about them, well worth the read. You too will drive miles to experience this Caribbean and Southern inspired restaurant! Im coming back and bringing people. There's so much more for me to try.

I love how they had a lot of drink options, including fountain drinks, and special lemonades. We got here on the late side for lunch, and found there to be several different options for ordering. You could wait in line and order with a cashier, you could do a self service kiosk, or you could order from a QR code at a table. We ended up grabbing a table and opting to do it with a QR code. Everything was very clear, and I like that they showed what was popular immediately. I opted for a Boricua Soul Bowl, which I'd sampled during a food tour a few years back- then I tried it with chicken, so today I opted for shrimp. I feel like you really should go with pork since that's the default, and a mainstay of Puerto Rican cuisine and soul food, but alas I have an aversion to pork so I can't. I was also intrigued by the jackfruit option- there's something for everyone! My husband went for a platter with pork, which he said was delicious and rich. The Mac and cheese was amazing, and the collards were to DIE FOR! They have four house made sauces, which were a very fun way to add different flavors (I doused mine in Guava!). Since I've now been, I understand that there are many different methods of ordering, but I'm not sure I understand if there's a benefit or staff preference to one over another. I think one thing I might do in the future is order online (if you're using Toast Tab anyway, might as well order in advance) and then sit outside after I arrive. It took about 30 minutes to get our food, which probably means everything is made to order and fresh (as opposed to sitting around) so that's great, but I was STARVING by the time we got our food. Will definitely be back!

It is built on quinoa and rice with black beans and kale, then layered with corn salsa, tomato cortido, guacamole, and a creamy acevichado style sauce that pulls everything together. My friend had the rotisserie chicken with two sides, kale and slaw, and it was just as impressive. Crispy skin, juicy inside, and really clean flavors. Simple food done right and GF friendly. Everything felt thoughtfully prepared. Prices land right where you would expect for the quality, roughly 16 to 21 dollars depending on what you order, and it feels worth it. My bowl plus side of dark chicken was plenty. A few notes. Parking is what you would expect for downtown, so plan accordingly. Service was solid and friendly, but nothing that stood out. The vibe inside is festive and relaxed, bright and open, and just a fun place to hang out for lunch. Porbably not a special occasion. I also suspect it could get loud when full. This is definitely going into my regular rotation. That grain bowl is going to be hard to pass up next time, so instead of replacing it I will probably just add a side or an empanada and start working my way through the rest of the menu.

With their big lunch boxes, and delicious food, Jamaica Jamaica got me hooked on Jamaican/Caribbean food and I consider it one of my favorite cuisines. I'd say my Jamaica Jamaica life could be split into 3 segments, in which I would always get the same thing no matter what. My first phase was the curry chicken - such a fantastic dish with chicken that came off the bone, a vibrant curry sauce, and potatoes and carrots to round out the dish. When you paired it with rice, cabbage and plantains, it was an almost perfect meal. My second phase was the curry shrimp, I was always enticed by having a seafood option. The flavors of the curry shrimp were the same as the curry chicken, except the vegetables varied. I enjoyed this dish too, but I would say the biggest issue would be that the shrimp sometimes got really soft after sitting out for some time. My current phase is their Jerk chicken. I would say that their Jerk chicken is unique because they make the chicken, but they let it sit in a sauce that soaks up the seasoning. This is a great topper for my rice, but I think it contributes to the fact that the Jerk chicken is definitely not as flavorful as I know it to be. It misses the mark on bringing the heat, it has some flavor and heat but it is very very mild in my opinion. Generally speaking, I would be aware of the Jerk chicken drying out. This has happened to me on an occasion or two, along with the rice being dry too. Outside the realm of food, I would say the interior could use a little work. The furniture is a bit dated and things are cluttered. However, the staff working there is nice and they always pack the food in a big to-go container, so you can bring it back to the office, and then home because they are not shy about the portions. Glad that hasn't changed!
