Been told to come here on numerous occasions by multiple people and we finally made the stop! As of Nov. 2022 they are seat yourself and you order from the bar or QR code with your phone. For a rainy Friday afternoon over a long weekend, they were pretty busy but multiple tables were open. When we arrived our group split between the upstairs patio and the front picnic tables as we had our dog with us. The picnic tables out front is the only section that is dog friendly. When we ordered food we were told the wait is about an hour which wasn't an issue as we were there to hang out and chat! The food accurately took exactly 1hr and staff was very apologetic when the food was brought out. However, our burgers we're phenomenal! After a wait like that, I was definitely worried but they were cooked perfectly, just like we asked, and served warm. Some folks in our party were a bit annoyed about the wait. Some orders that shouldn't have taken an hour (pickles, pretzels) took as long as full meals which was strange. All in all, great experience and was glad we finally checked out Whetstone. They serve all their own beers at a really good price ($7) so just going there for beers and the view is definitely a move. One star is for the view, if you're lucky enough to get an outside table. The second is for the sour ale we had the night we were there; it was very good, and the pub chips we ultimately got when we finally got something to eat. The missing stars are food and service. Started off okay. Menu is at the table, you decide what you want and then go to the bar to order, give them your table number, and either give a card to open a tab, or as in our case, just pay for your meal. It was a Sunday evening and we knew we weren't having anything else to eat or drink, so I paid. Tapped 20%, which was excessive for going to order your own but whatever, they do bring the food and drinks to your table Got the beer right away. And waited. And waited. It wasn't a complicated order. One standard Earth & Turf with chicken, sautéed mushrooms, cheese, fries. One BYO - chicken, caramelized onions, mushrooms, Swiss cheese; pub chips. They do these all the time! Finally a person came to the table to tell us they didn't have the onions nor the mushrooms for the Earth & Turf. That basically left my husband with a plain chicken sandwich. While he looked at the menu to see if something else caught his eye, I realized that my sandwich also called for mushrooms, and the young woman left, said she'd give us some time. Five minutes later she came back to tell us no worries, they found what they needed! Strange, we thought, but if they found everything, fine. Well, they sure did not "find what they needed." Both sandwiches lacked the sautéed mushrooms, and mine lacked the caramelized onions. Not to mention it looked like we'd each been given half a piece of chicken, it was that skimpy. On the build-your-own, they charge a base price and you pay for each topping, fair enough. So the sautéed mushrooms are $1.99. I didn't get them and believed I shouldn't have to pay for them. Same for the caramelized onions. The mushrooms came with the Earth &Turf, but if they weren't there... So I politely walked up to a person behind the register and explained what had happened and asked to be refunded the cost of what was missing. She was nice, said she'd have to talk to the manager. She went into the kitchen and talked to...someone? Came out and said he'd process a refund when he got a chance. Fine, thank you, and I went back to eat my sandwich. We finished eating and the woman who'd taken our order at the bar came over to clear the plates. I mentioned that we hadn't gotten what we had paid for and that I had spoken to the person at the register; I asked for an adjusted receipt that reflected the credit. At this point, it's a few bucks, I'm still not making a big deal or a huge fuss. She'll be right back... I finally went back to the register, where she and the other woman said they were looking for our check in the system. I repeated the table # and our last name. She found it, printed it out and asked me to write my email address on it so the manager could email an adjusted receipt. She said he wasn't there but she was closing that night and she would tell him about it. Again, not a lot of money, but the principle of the thing - and how difficult is it to put through a credit of 2 or 3 dollars on a card??? But I'm not one of "those" customers. I asked her name, thanked her, and we left. It's 5 days later. Have you heard anything from them? Neither have we! Won't go back when we're in town again next summer. Whetstone Station in Brattleboro, VT has been a family favorite when we're in the area. During Fall Foliage Season or during the Peak Bright Greens of the Season, the next to the CT River location has spectacular views. I've also occasionally found something like a Hill Farmstead on Tap. Our family was in the area today and we stopped in. This wasn't my favorite Whetstone Station trip, and I think a couple other people in our party felt the same way. The River view is always nice, but it's still a little early in the Spring for terrific views of the greenery. Also, there was no Hill Farmstead or something of a similar quality on tap. I got a Whetstone Big Stoner DIPA. It was pretty good, but not quite up to the IPA's I normally drink. Since I've last visited Whetstone, they've adopted the order and pay by phone at your table service model. You seat yourself. You get your own water and soft drink. They bring your food and beer, and they clean after you leave. That's the service. I've eaten at places with this service model, but not in a group and not in a restaurant that used to provide full service when I ate there. I didn't love it to be honest. When you go to pay on your phone, the tip defaults to 20% unless you choose a different amount. I'm still grappling with what I think the proper tip should be for this service model. It's substantially less service than I'm used to receiving. The food was OK. I tried the Vermont Country Cheddar Soup, the Chili and the Steak and Cheese Empanada. The Cheddar Soup had good flavor and texture, but it should have been hotter. The ground beef chili was OK, but unremarkable. The steak and cheese empanadas were decent, but I wouldn't order them again. In scoring Whetsone for this visit, the trick is deciding how much to weight the prime CT River location. There aren't many places with a cooler location, and the location gets 5 Stars. The food and service were each 3 Stars on this visit. This visit felt more like a 3 Star experience than a 4 Star experience. So Three Stars it is. read more

No servers, order at the table via Toast app. We're from NYS so we had a little difficulty paying by card so we had to go up to the bar to place our order. I've been to Whetstone station several times over the years - this was my first post pandemic visit. The deck overlooking the river is always a beautiful place to eat. We went in the middle of the day on Thursday. Had a burger, a pulled pork sandwich and a beer. The pulled-pork sandwich was delicious and the beer was floral so I was generally pretty happy. They've adopted using the Toast app so that you can scan your table number and just make your order. I'm really starting to love the convenience getting your order in and being able to put in additional items and pay and leave without having to flag anyone. Eating at two places at once while drinking a beer? Yes please. We sat on the upper deck. The place was packed, which is expected on a weekend. Food was excellent, but we were a party of six. My husband and I were served our food after about 30 minutes of waiting: no problem at all. My daughter and her husband were then served their food 20 minutes later when we we're almost finished. We then proceeded to Saith another 30 minutes for my younger daughter and her husbands meal. I would have absolutely given this place a five star if it wasn't for the crazy, really unacceptable 1 hour and 20 minute wait for food. Traveling back home from a long vacation we decided to stop at the tik tok famous restaurant where half of the place is in Vermont and the other half in New Hampshirite. Very cool vibe. I like the history of the building and how they displayed that in photos around the place. The food was your typical brewery food. Everything was good. This is such a disappointing review for me. My wife and I used to look forward to coming here. Not anymore. Every visit seems to get progressively worse. The McDonalds style ordering system and self serve thing are obviously killing you. The owners keep posting "sorry we missed the mark this time", but fail to see that it's happening more often than not. I think it's time to have a meeting, and seriously reconsider your business model. For the prices charged here, you should be hiring adequate staff and kitchen employees. At this point, you have only two things going for you.....location and draft beer. Going back around 7 years or so this used to be the go to restaurant for lots of bikers in the area. Oh how much as changed.! And not for the best. So here we go. Post covid this establishment has no hostess, no waitress, and only bartenders, cooks and food runners. You are on your own to pick from the online order placement, to finding your own condiments near the self-service soda machine. It was interesting to see people coming in looking for a table, as many were empty but not clean, oh that reminds me, yes you have to clean your own table. Unless the food runners might be in the area and clear as they are heading back to the kitchen. This place isn't far off from going AI on the bartenders as well as it appears that just one on a weekend afternoon just doesn't cut it. For the food, what used to be a great kitchen is far from that now, bar food that is cheep, easy to make and plentiful profit margins has taken the Wow factor totally out of what this place used to be. Let me start by saying I use to be a huge fan, and would drive up from mass to dine and let me also share the food was not bad- but not amazing, now just your average bar food. So if you have been in the past, it's no longer what you expect- no hostess, no wait staff- you order on an app or stand in line at the bar. Also super fun, no prices on menu if you find real menu, and only way to see price in app is to add to cart. Also, not a super fan that when I ordered directly at the bar they never gave me the key pad to see the total, I'm pretty sure she just clicked 20% tip to add in- which normally I'd leave, but not when it's essentially a self serve restaurant. Half the table ordered from app (10mins or so after I ordered) and managed to get food before me which what I ordered was only (2) apps... was weird! You have to find the serving station, get your own silverware, napkins, drinks, condiments if not at table.... Again all totally normal things at certain places, with prices that reflect that- not what you expect here. Also, good luck if you're a single parent there with a child, you'd have to bring your child back and forth with you- I had to make several trips with waters in hand. The only reason I'm even giving two stars is because my husband's beer (Big Stoner) and my cocktail were good. We also enjoyed our pretzel bites. Everything else was disappointing. It started when they brought our entrees at the same time as our appetizer. They brought it back to the kitchen to sit under heat lamps. So when we were ready to eat our medium rare burgers were well done and dry as can be. Even the pickles, lettuce and tomatoes were hot and soggy. No one stopped at our table to ask how things were. Then when my husband ordered a second beer no one ever brought it. When the waitress came with the check she asked if we wanted boxes after seeing nothing was eaten. I told her no that everything was over cooked. There was no offer to order anything different. When we told her we didn't get the second beer she read the order back to us. Making us tell her again we did not get the second beer. This place had potential but failed miserably. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED. My friend, on her birthday, was verbally accosted by your "door man" on Memorial Day. She walked up to put her name down on a waiting list since there were people waiting outside already. Before she even got a word out the door man came towards her yelling and his voice was getting louder and louder as to have EVERYONE hear. He informed her loudly and obnoxiously that they were not letting anyone else in. He continued raising his voice at her letting her know that it would be an undetermined amount of time before he lets people in. He went on to spat out other things but we didn't know the rest of those screaming words. She was not only offended but scared and frightened by his demeanor. She stood there, alone and in front of other people while being verbally abused for simply wanting lunch. Typically, Id say that this was unprofessional and rude but it goes deeper than that. There was no reason for his behavior. That individual should not have access to the public let alone be the first encounter of your establishment. In case you wish to refute anything to defend his actions; she was a sober, hungry, woman who said NOTHING. She was eager, willing, and expected to wait until she was screamed at. We drove 4 hours to visit Vermont for her birthday and had an amazing time up until that moment. This brewery was specifically chosen for the view, beer, and lunch. We even called to make sure you were open. This was our first and last stop to not only Brattleboro but anything you are affiliated with. The owners, business, morals, ethics, and verbal abuse is a disgrace. You should be ashamed. Your door man's mother, if he has one, should know what she raised and how he treats innocent people. To say that I'll bash, negatively review, consult legal advice, and share her story is an afterthought to how she was treated. Any video of this verbal assault should not be tampered with. I hope all that read this feel just as disgusted, disappointed, and revolted. No beer was tasted, no food eaten, no ambiance had, and no view enjoyed. This has always been a go to spot for us when traveling through the area, we've always been big fans of the wings wheather we were dining in or taking them to go. Tonight we stopped in excited to grab some wings and the pricing was normal, but the wings that came out were a fraction of the normal size and looked emaciated in comparison to an average wing. What an adorable place to have a beer in summer or winter! I must say, the area around the brewery is a little sketchy (looks a bit like Detroit in the early 90s), but this bar was bustling when I arrived on a Friday afternoon in the middle of summer! We contemplated sitting outside and overlooking the water, but we decided to stay at the bar, chat it up with the bartender, grab a beer and some snacks. They had a pretty solid menu overall, of both beers on tap and snacks. They also do flights I had a wheat ale and we split some fried pickles and fried pierogies. I like how they had two options on these items, small or large(r) portions. We did the small option for both, which was perfect for a little snack. I loved the fireplace the dining room area had and could definitely see myself coming back for a beer in the winter next to the fire. This place is awesome! They currently have a seat yourself policy where you can sit anywhere and order food and drinks either from the bartenders or from a QR code posted at your table. We got the cider and double IPA on draft and they were delicious. We started with the perogies which came out crunchy and with a side of tasty sour cream dipping sauce. For meals, we shared the Reuben with fries and kale salad. We added lettuce, tomato, and red onion to the Reuben which I highly recommend. The fries were crispy and salty. The kale salad was decently sized and so fresh. I really liked the pears and raisins for a sweet bite. I recommend getting it with the pesto vinegarerrte. This place also has AMAZING views. A double decker patio with a view of the bridge and river to see the beautiful fall colors. They also have heaters outside so you can enjoy the views while staying warm. It's a perfect refreshing beer for a hot day. We loved the smoked trout plate - the trout was delicious but it could have used more pickled veg. Before the pandemic, the Whetstone featured amazing meals, with a great variety to go along with their own brew. Great view of the Connecticut river with indoor/outdoor dining. This place was always happening and would be packed in the evenings. Today, it's a shadow of its former self. Way fewer people, and no line. Limited to burgers and bar food, the quality isn't there. Their wait staff is now an app on your phone, and you hoof it to the bar and a soda machine yourself. While they do bring your order to you, if anything is wrong or missing its off to the bar to fix it. It makes tipping awkward. I don't tip at cafeterias, and while they bring your order out, that is about the extent of the service. Hopefully, they will make a comeback post pandemic and reinvest. read more

We were served by Ben and Nick who were both top notch servers. We tried every IPA they had on tap and were not disappointed! After a few hours on the road, I wanted nothing more than a burger and a beer for lunch. Whetstone answered my prayers. You have the option of building your own burger or choosing a set one. Regardless of which burger you choose, you choose the patty at no additional cost. Highlights include their custom triple blend beef patty and the Beyond Burger patty. I had Tim's Awesome Burger ($13.99). The burger consists of maple smoked bacon and peanut butter. PB sounds like a strange addition to a burger but, surprisingly, it's actually really good with the juicy meat patty, cheese, and bacon. I recommend it! Whetstone has a great selection of beers. They're offered in 4 oz, 8 oz, 12 oz, and 16 oz. I had the Mosaic Single Hop IPA and enjoyed it. It's fruity and refreshing. This was a very disappointing experience. The location and view is beautiful that's the plus. The rest was seriously lacking. We were given dirty glasses ( still had lipstick marks and smelled like stale beer)... mistakes happen and I'd overlook that since the bartender was very apologetic and gave us new glasses. But the food took almost an hour to arrive ( burgers and fries) they tried giving us another table's food TWICE. The sauce we had ordered for our daughters dinner was missing and when we asked for it it never appeared. The food was "ok" but nothing special or anything above basic. We won't be back. read more
