Whisk is okay. Came in on weekday around 11:00. I ordered a baguette, chocolate croissant, kouign amman, eclair, and a coffee. The baguette was flat because it was under proofed, but the taste was fine. It disappointed me that Whisk would sell such underwhelming baguette. Of course, I should have inspected the baguette before I took it home. The kouign amman was great - buttery, flaky, and chewy. The croissant was nice too. The eclair was average. There seems to be a lack of consistency going on in the kitchen. I so wanted this to be a great bakery since Richmond is so lacking in one. As for the service, it could do better. I was the only one in the bakery and there were 4 people behind the counter, including the owner. It took a couple of minutes before anyone even acknowledged me and took my order. I don't expect immediate service, but some eye contact or a, "I'll be with you in a minute" would have been nice. I might try it again and hope for some improvements. read more

I live a block away from Whisk and have been stopping in since they opened a few years ago and while it's not my favorite coffee shop in Richmond, they serve one of my coffee favorite drinks, iced honey lavender latte, and recently a barista took my favorite drink to the next level and accidentally prepared it with almond milk instead of skim milk and it was LIFE. CHANGING. Now I only get it with almond milk and it's so good - definitely check it out! Pastries are great, but they are often out of stock in most things listed on their website, only serve breakfast on the weekends and even then, usually out of breakfast sandwiches by 9 am. Brewer's Cafe is definitely a better coffee shop option if you're looking for a good coffee (with dairy free options) and some great food! About 5 minutes away from Whisk. Driving back from Florida to NYC we were searching for a place in Richmond that opened early on Sunday for breakfast. So glad we found Whisk. Located in old downtown Richmond it's a great spot for coffee, pastry and sandwiches. I had the veggie breakfast sandwich and my friend had a great looking croissant egg, bacon and cheese sandwich which, reportedly, was delicious! Whisker cookies, eclairs and anything croissant/croissant related are easily five stars alone. The Whisker cookies are deeply, richly chocolaty with a touch of sea salt and excellent buttercream. Eclairs consist of perfect pastry and even more perfect pastry creme and are a wonderful size. The croissant/croissant related things are magnificent - the gingerbread croissant is enough to give you daydreams. Also a fan of the gougeres! The whole place smells like butter and it's clear the pastry chef is an artist. Unfortunately the service is seriously lacking. We've been in twice and the girl at the register was sour, didn't communicate well and looked generally unhappy to be serving us. Considering we dropped over $30 on each trip, I expect much more pleasant, if not downright cheerful, service. If it weren't for that this would certainly be a five star review. read more

The richmonder has smoked turkey ,lettuce ,bacon aioli, lettuce ,and either Swiss/ American cheese. I regret asking if the bread could've been toasted. I think that would have kicked it up a notch The coffee was fresh and tasty. The large cookie was filled with delicious chocolate chunks. Which is right up my sweet tooths alley. This is one of my favorite places to go after I've taken my dog on the canal walk. Every time I've been here it's been wonderful. Get their macaroons and the Richmonder sandwich. We had the giant lemon lavender macaroon. The texture was heavenly and you can really taste the lavender. Price was great considering most other places charge $1 for a tiny macaroon and here they charge $2 for a giant one.The campfire cookie had a graham cookie/bread that was soft and the combination of marshmallow and chocolate was perfect. We also had the whisker cookie and chocolate chip cookie that the family loved. With all the options it was hard to make up our minds. We also had their turkey sandwich which was delicious. The place is small so having a one on one conversation may be hard but we didn't mind. We really just came for the sweets and ate them on the patio portion of the bakery. I had always wanted to visit Whisk but never got around to going until my last week of living in Richmond (poor timing I know) and it was INCREDIBLE. The interior is super cute and quaint (and they had Maggie Rogers playing- amazing) The staff was super friendly but the pastry cases are what really caught my attention. It took me 39 years to decide what to order and ended up choosing FOUR pastries. The raspberry cream cheese muffin was so delectable, I wish I could eat one every day. I got my sister a croissant but made sure to steal a bite before handing it over and OMG it was the best croissant I have ever had, and I have had my fair share of croissants. They're HUGE and suuuuper flaky and buttery, I'll have to try one of the croissant breakfast sandwiches one day (only served Fri-Mon). I also got the cookies and cream macaron which was also huge and so tasty, I love macarons and this one was one of the top ones I've ever had. I also got the double chocolate brownie for later (I've had it before elsewhere) because it is sooo yummy- basically a rich fudgy brownie with chocolate ganache on top. One of my favorite spots in RVA! I'm surprised it's taken me this long to write a review. I've been here many times and everything is of such high quality, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Really good coffee, sandwiches (the Richmonder is awesome, the homemade bacon mayo makes it just delicious), freshly baked bread, pastry, etc. but the French macarons are the BEST I've ever had. They're jumbo sized and the perfect combo of crunchy, chewy, and creamy. Such a treat. A recent flavor I tried was the smoked sea salt. YUM. So different but so flavorful. I also purchased a buttermilk pumpkin tart with pumpkin ganache for thanksgiving and it did not disappoint! Flaky, rich, and buttery crust, sweet filling and the pumpkin ganache was thick, creamy and slightly salty. A nice change from the traditional turkey day pumpkin pie. I got a couple pints of the bourbon caramel ice cream which was incredible. The ingredients include cream cheese which made the texture inanely good. It was sweet and boozy from the bourbon but had plenty of caramel flavor also. I would buy this all year if it was available. The only oddity was there was no nutritional label on it. But it did list the ingredients. Anyway, Whisk is a great local spot for coffee, a quick bite or something sweet. The space is light and airy with a fun and cozy vibe. Im new to Richmond and stumbled upon this business while looking for the bus stop. It was hot, I was hot from walking 6 blocks and I decided to step in and cool off. My 1st experience: When I stepped into the establishment the first thing that shocked me was the temperature inside felt warmer than outside. I then walked up to the counter. It was 1:44 pm and while deciding on my order the guy at the counter told me they will be closing at 2pm. I figured I had 16mins to sit and have a bite and cool off..this was not the case. There were 5 guests seated in the store and they did not seem to be concerned about the 2pm closing. So why would I? Well I decided to try The Parisian. Guy said they are out. Then said they are out of lettuce. So I ordered The Richmonder. I decided to change the bread to a baguette which costs me about $1 more..why? I found me a table and sat down. I got my sandwich and began to eat. 7 mins into sitting down a large solid meaty lady bounces out of no where with the bulliest look on her face and proceeds to wipe the table in front of me, wipe all empty tables and turn up the chairs, offers the two Caucasian men at the next table free tea refill, apologizes to THEM, turns off the lights and swooshes about and around me busying herself with closing the store with me in it. Im sitting there trying to huff down the hard ass dry bread sandwich and slurp the coke so the hard bread doesnt choke me so I can hurry up and get out of this female grizzly's way. In other words..get the hell out of their store black girl! When she finally decides to make eye contact..I muffle with food in my mouth..'Ill be finished in a moment'. She stares at me and replies okay. Look..I get it, Black folks arent welcome in some establishments. I get that some caucasians dont like black folks or they are just blind to us. I get that you were closing at 2pm, but you did not have to close the store on patrons as Ms. Grizzly effectively did. The insulting part of this entire experience is at no time did this lady ever apologize or recognize that what she was doing was a disservice to the establishment and blatantly rude to me a black grandma sitting there just trying to have a moment and enjoy my $15 snack. The sandwich was nothing to rave about and considering no lettuce and no Parisian available the extra charge for exchanging the bread type should have been at no charge. I purchased an almond chocolate crossaint as well. It was tough and bc of my horrible in store experience, i cannot tell you whether the pastry was good or not, just tough. I will not be visitng this establishment again. And if you are of the black, hispanic or AA race, avoid it. Note to Owners. People of all colors nationalities and race makes up this world and they Yelp. I will never return to your business. And I will by word of mouth tell of my demeaning experience on Oct.2nd, 2017.
