Just experienced whisky West during a soft opening. The environment is great! They did an incredible job opening up the space to make it more inviting than the bar hat was there prior . I had the fish sliders and they were done very well. The service needs some help. The staff are friendly and could use some direction on what makes a good server. I.e., checking in with patrons, bring two drinks at a time verses one, don't reach across the table in front of the guests etc. As I mentioned before the food was good but there was at least 10 minutes between the first person being served and the 5th person being served. Las but not least, I hope they update their wine selection. I prefer wine over whisky and the rose and Pinot Grigio were both so sour they made us pucker, they were out of Chardonnay so I can't comment on that one. I did not taste the Reds, settle for prosecco which was okay. I hope they choose to get better quality wine for 10.00 a glass, this will make or break it for us. The vote at the table was 50/50 whether or no t they'll make it, they need to work out the bugs sooner verse later they are already establishing a reputation. read more

I absolutely love this place. I've been there three times now and had great service every time. The cocktails are fantastic as one would imagine. They have 20 beers on tap and even more bottled on top of their already huge whiskey selection. The food came out quick, hot and was delicious. It wasn't overly greasy like so much other bar food is but still satisfied that "I'm-drinking-need-some-food" feeling. I can't wait to go back! read more

I love visiting this local Whisky bar and restaurant. We have visited many times in the past few months. The wait staff is very attentive and most of all friendly as are the bar tenders. Favorites on the menu are the Elk chili, beet salad and the chicken BLT. Also like the fact that they support live music. We have seen several entertaining groups recently. read more

Can't thank Whisky West enough! We stopped in here last Sunday. Food and service was great as always. However, it was a 95 degree day and my mother-in-law collapsed from heat stroke just as we were getting ready to leave. The staff went above and beyond to make her comfortable and help cool her down. The bar manager especially remained calm, took charge of the situation and was beyond helpful. We are so grateful for all of their help and care during this frightening situation. read more

I stayed away from WW for a long time as it looked like a sterile transplant from Bell Town, trying to be too many things while doing none of them well and which didn't belong in the neighborhood. Fortunately, in an effort to find the best happy hour manhattan in West Seattle, I stopped in and have made it a regular weekly event since. After the colorful events of last night, I doubt we'll see him again, but dammit Wade, you mix a fine drink and gave life to an otherwise bland establishment. So long, buddy! read more

Last night we decided to finally check this place out. What a bummer of an experience. We sat at the bar right behind the beer taps. Must be a forgotten zone. Old glasses and napkins were still there for awhile after we sat. Bartender didn't clean our bar area. I had a beer and my partner had a very good margarita. I finished my beer and sat there for over ten minutes with my empty glass. As our bartender was pouring a beer my partner asked if we could order food. The answer was a bit curt. I do not part with my cash to someone who is less than hospitable. That was our que to get out of there and move onto a place that is truly welcoming. And there are many that we frequent in West Seattle. We are nice people and we tip well. It just won't be there. read more

My husband and I have had a similar experience to many of the other reviewers. We entered and were not greeted. After standing there a man told us to sit anywhere. A few minutes later we gave our drink orders and were served beverages. Over the next half hour we did not receive so much as a glance from any staff members. I attempted to flag someone down but everyone ignored us. Finally I got up and asked someone at the bar if we could order. We waited again, ordered, and were served some time later. I ordered the fish and chips which were undercooked and had batter inside. My husband got the burger and enjoyed it. No refills, no checkin's, no contact. I'd say we were like an infection at this place but I think infections get better care and treatment. We asked for our check, waited, paid, waited, and finally escaped. I was so looking forward to this place- and gave it two chances. Perhaps they are still working out the kinks, but so far not happy. Both times my wife and I sat at the bar and waited over 15 minutes to get the attention of a bartender, and when we finally got their attention it definitely came with attitude. Excuse me, we are in West Seattle.....Get the feeling they must not be allowed to smile either. As for the cocktail, think If you're a whisky bar you should at least know how to make a decent old fashion. Pass. read more

Was excited to try Whiskey West this weekend. Came in with my wife hoping to grab a cocktail before dinner elsewhere. It didn't seem too busy, so we sat down at the bar.. and kept sitting there for 10+ minutes without even so much as a "hello" from anyone, despite making eye contact with at least 4 servers / bartenders that walked by directly in front of us. We eventually got up and left because it was clear no one there had any interest in our business. I understand the place is just opening, but it can't be that hard to set the precedent with your staff to greet your patrons, regardless of how busy you might be. Won't be coming back to give it a second try; first impression didn't leave any desire to give it a shot. read more

I had to update. They've been open a while and are MUCH better now. I love it here and come often. The drinks and service are good. ***** Old review- Iwant to give them more stars because they are still working out the kinks in a new place with a new staff. The location is great, the place beautifully renovated, and they have a very generous happy hour. But... they are not at all consistent with their drinks. I've come in about a handful of times, and once had absolutely delicious drinks, a few had good or pretty good and twice now had truly terrible awful drinks. (I tried it again because of the other delicious drinks and the air conditioning on a hot weekend). One of the bartenders is just the worst. He gets strangely and not successfully creative with classic drinks, has an attitude, and can't make even a whiskey sour or old fashioned at all well. One of the old fashioneds he made for my friend was totally undrinkable. I have no idea how he managed that. It's just spirits, sugar and bitters? If I get his name I'll add it. I thought it was maybe just me, but a cocktail loving friend told me she'd visited recently and had just the worst bartender, and when asked about his description it was the same one. He's got short dark hair and a sort of olive complexion and appears to be fairly young.. maybe late 20's to mid 30's? Then about an hour ago I ran into an old friend and when we talked about the neighborhood and the new whiskey joint they told me they'd had the worst bartender there and described the SAME GUY! (Note.. there is a younger bartender with a similar description and he's just wonderful.) So, my big beef with Whiskey West is that they have a pretty cool concept and a pretty cool space, and they occasionally are almost as good as their original location, but they are very inconsistent in service and drink quality. And I'm sorry, but if you are charging craft cocktail prices, you need bartenders to deliver consistently quality drinks. They should make the same great old fashioned every time. And so far, they don't. You have the one terrible guy, and a few bartenders who just don't deliver consistent quality yet. Please consider training or using recipes or something for a while. I really hope this place improves because I want it to be successful and stay. I'd love to be able to walk to the delicious cocktails. read more

Beautiful renovation. Amazing selection of international whiskies. Best Old-Fashioned I've had in years! Good prices on drinks during a long happy hour from 3 to 7 pm. No happy hour food specials, and the rest of the very limited food menu is overpriced. Our $13 fish and chips were skimpy, and the fish was over-battered and under-cooked. Fries, on the other hand, were excellent. This place could have a lock on the Morgan Junction happy hour/dinner scene if they'd just run up the street and check out what their Alaska Junction competition has on offer. read more

I had high hopes for this place. It's beautifully remodeled, and is surprisingly spacious. My boyfriend and I have been twice since it opened. Both times we've been extremely disappointed with the service. The first time they tried to charge us $18 for an old fashioned! We had no regular server..but rather whoever happened to walk by our table. The second time the service was just as bad. I wanna like this place and I am hoping it will improve. read more

Holy Sh*t snacks. Just had some of the best wings of my life and I'm hard to satisfy when it comes to wings I don't cook myself. Perfect combination of crispy, juicy and flavorful!!! The sauce has the right amount of heat without killing the flavor. LOVE WINGS AND THIS IS MY NEW PLACE FOR THEM. (Sorry Westy) Great staff and the drink selection is insane. Such a great addition to the neighborhood! I've been craving a really good burger for a few months now, and was disappointed every time I ordered one from places like Ivars or Mccormicks, but the burger at Whiskey West finally satisfied the craving. I think it was the blue cheese aioli. Also ordered the wings and Brussels sprouts both of which were phenomenal. Can't wait to go back and try the other menu items that I couldn't fit in tonight. There was a huge selection of drinks that were reasonably priced, especially with HH happening 7 days a week. The music wasn't what I expected, but I appreciated the throwback to old Seattle grunge. Overall, it was fantastic food, drinks, service and atmosphere...can't ask for much more! read more

The service was odd...somewhat friendly, yet very much in a hurry to leave our table, even before everyone (there was 2 of us) had ordered. The food?? NO BUENO! I ordered their burger medium-well and it was SO well/cooked that it was hard/tough (had absolutely no pink in the middle). Flavor was not great either. My husband ordered the fish and chips and it had an odd yellow color to the inside. The deviled eggs were just ok. We won't be going back...at least not for food or good service. read more

Great drinks and atmosphere service leaves a lot to be desired. I met a friend here for a drink and I love that this place is close to my house. The drinks were good and food is generally good. The waiters barely came around and we had three waiters without any indication of a handoff so we sat with empty drinks at least three times until we could flag someone down and the place was nearly empty. I've been a few times and each time leaves something to be desired. Most recently I've had one of the worst Caesar salads I've ever had the displeasure of eating. So salty it was almost unpalatable (too much anchovy in the dressing). My brother's Reuben sandwich was interesting... I've never seen crispy corned beef. Also ordered a medium burger and received medium-well. The servers and beer/whiskey are nice though. Being local, I keep hoping that the next experience will be better. read more

Okay, I'm typically not that guy who posts negative reviews but this place needs work. I think a restaurant needs 3 things: good ambiance, decent food and good service. So here it goes: Atmosphere - they don't know who they are and neither do you as customer - the place gives the impression it want wants be classy but isn't. It's disjointed with sports on one place and rock-n-roll music in another section, each drowning out the other. Next, food - best way to say it - it's average bar food.. nothing fresh, nothing unique or special. Lastly, service... wow. If you don't really want to serve me, then maybe you should get another job! I've been to Shari's or Denny's at 3am and the service is 10 times better...And you want a tip?!?!? It's became obvious there was/is no professional server training in place. being a neighborhood bar is one thing - being a 'good' neighborhood bar is another. Thank goodness there are great options nearby... Great for you - bad and deserving for Whisky West. read more

Overpriced drinks. Bad service. Many of the cocktails I would've chosen were not available. When I asked for "bartenders choice" based on multiple drinks not being options I was told to just pick something because the bartenders were too busy. The drinks I did have were just ok. read more

Great atmosphere at this bar. Came here with some girlfriends last weekend. I actually really liked the decor. It was more of an intimate setting, would be a great date night place. Was also surprised that a live band was playing that night. I did enjoy the whisky burger with bacon. I would probably want to try the mac and cheese if I came back again. read more

Whisky west is in my neighborhood, so I was eagerly awaiting trying it out. It looks great from the outside, especially in the summer when all the doors are wide open. Our server was very nice and attentive but the food was absolutely pitiful. We had the special beef and noodle dish, fish and chips, a burger, and French dip (so pretty much all the main dishes). The French dip was pretty good (incredibly easy to make a decent French dip) but everything else was god-awful... bland, overlooked, and tasted like it was all freezer food and canned veggies in the beef dish. Ridiculously high whisky prices. Like comparable to the nicest places in Seattle. We will not be back for food, ever. Possibly a drink and music in the summer. Too bad this place's food game lacks so much... it's a great location and cool on the inside. read more

I live near whisky west and haven't ever been in since I moved in November. So my boyfriend and I thought we would give it a try, since I work at a bar I have weird days off and was excited to get serviced the way I give it 5 days a week and drink some good strong drinks. However after coming in and not being greeted we took the initiative and grabbed two chairs and small table and glance at the menus. Well we had the wrong menus and I again took initiative and grabbed off a near by table the regular menus for food and cocktails. We sat for about 5 minutes while the server was kinda running around helping the current tables she had. Working in a bar and restaurant for as long as I have I totally am understanding and patient however she didn't even make eye contact or say "hey guys give me a minute and I'll come by". After about 10 minutes of not even being acknowledged we decided to leave for a neighboring bar where our service was great and our tip generous. I have no desire to go back and clearly I won't be missed but I will be honest when I'm working and when I'm asked where to go for drinks and food I will kindly leave out whisky west. read more

The place was super busy and we managed to squeeze into the only available table. The service was prompt and friendly, in spite of how busy they were. I like what they've done with the place. But the food was mediocre. He had the burger, I had the reuben. The burger was unseasoned and on an untoasted bun. The reuben was skimpy on the meat and burnt on one side. It seemed like the kitchen was just pumping out orders as fast as possible without much concern about quality. I would rather wait a little longer for food prepared like somebody cared, rather than getting it as fast as possible. The topper though, was when we got the bill. He had ordered a beer and they charged us $10 for it. For a beer. And it wasn't a fancy one or even in a pint glass but came in a stemmed glass that was maybe 12 or 14 oz. I even had to ask the waitress if that was really right. She seemed a bit embarrassed to tell me it was. I don't know, maybe this is typical in new Seattle. At any rate, they are probably experiencing growing pains, which is to be expected. And I'm all for second chances. read more

I had the BEST experience at Whisky West last evening. The manager Mike and head chef Seth helped me organize a birthday party for my husband, complete with catering from the kitchen. The chef helped me put together a fantastic selection of heavy appetizers, including some special pork belly sliders just for the party (not on the menu). The service was absolutely fantastic, Jen and Scott were amazing! All the guests had their drinks delivered quickly. A special thank you to the owner, Mike, who came in just tell help us get the slideshow of photos up on the projector. I spent hours putting this together and there were some technical difficulties with connecting to the bar's projector. Not only did he get the pictures up, he sat down and manually swiped through the photos as the slideshow function wasn't working. Incredible!! Now that's above and beyond. This is now our new favorite neighborhood bar and we will be returning often. Thanks for being the perfect venue for our party! read more
