The chardonnay left something to be desired, though, and I wish we had the option to mix our own flights rather than having them prix-fixed. Made a reservation for 7 people for a Sunday afternoon. Confirmed it myself the day before to make sure 7 could be accommodated. Walked in, was abruptly greeted by an older woman who asked how many. I said I had a reservation for 7 people and gave her the name . She looked at me and said "ok for 4 people" and I explained how my reservation was for 7. She looked annoyed and told us to follow her outside to be seated. We follow her and she walks up to a table with people seated and started taking their order. Me and the rest of my party were very confused and stood awkwardly behind her. She finally looks at me and points in a direction back and says "you can sit over there" the table we were told to go to was not big enough and she was annoyed she had to add another table. Again; I had a reservation!! Wasn't like I just walked in with a party of 7. Not a great start but we didn't take it personal at first. They were very busy and we were sympathetic and patient. She was annoyed when we asked questions about the wine , not very friendly. I ordered a spinach pizza and the response I got was "oh it's gonna take like 20-30 mins" and seemed annoyed I was even ordering food! like she was trying to get me not to order it. Bizarre. When I finally got my pizza it was the wrong toppings and the response I got was "oh we're all out someone was supposed to tell you" ok cool. I said it was fine and ate what she brought. We spent over $300 here and the service was awful. I never tip less than 20% but I unfortunately made an exception this time. She was nasty even when we left! Said "call ahead next time" even though I had a reservation. Will never be coming back due to staff. read more

OMG, I wish I could give Whisper Vineyards seven stars!! The wines, the ambiance, the service, everything about it is fantastic. A couple of friends of mine took me here for our mutual birthdays, and the staff went all-out to make it a memorable occasion. (I liked my wine so much, I joined their Wine Club.) We usually make an annual trip to the East End to celebrate our birthdays, but we wanted to stick close to home this year due to the pandemic. We are so glad we did!! We discovered a little gem in St. James that has earned our repeat business. Highly recommend! read more

Wine was very good and there was an extensive menu. The staff is very knowledgeable. Good ambiance. HOWEVER, myself and my group of friends were treated VERY poorly. We are all in our early twenties and they scrutinized our Ids. I am 24 and had my passport on me and the waitress (possibly one of the owners too) asked me why I don't have a license, as if a passport is not a legitimate form of identification. She then left for ten minutes and came back to recheck all of our IDs and ask us where we live and why we were in NY since some of us had out of state IDs. Once they decided to serve us, the server was very curt with us and rude. Although they were very friendly and talkative with the rest of their patrons, they ignored our table after this whole ID incident. My question is, what under aged person goes to a wine tasting in the middle of the day to get drunk? This is a very nice place, but they have a superior attitude and made a big mistake by snubbing us. read more

Really cute, intimate setting. Decent selection of wines to choose from. I was there one day when it was really busy and was standing near the bar to do a tasting. The girl poured my first wine and told me that she would find me for the rest, that I could go and sit down somewhere. Fast forward 15-20 minutes, and I was still waiting. So I went back up to the bar for the remainder of my tastings. The wines were literally poured and the name said with no explanation of the wine itself. I would have liked it here if I didn't know much about wine. The atmosphere is nice with some live music and the greenhouse right next to the patio. It feels like you are in a garden with all the plants around. However, the rose was truly terrible. I was warned by the waiter that it is "very dry" which is how I like rose. It was not dry at all. Somehow it was the color of cranberry juice and tasted like it was aged in a barrel made of driftwood. Almost a corked flavor. My boyfriend got the red blend which was better but not excellent. It was the most expensive glass of wine on the list. I was pretty surprised that a vineyard on Long Island could be so poorly educated on wine and so awful at actually making it when there is a lot of good wine nearby to compare to. It just doesn't stand up to any of the other vineyards I have been to on Long Island. read more

I had such an amazing afternoon at Whisper vineyards it's such a home felt setting and the people in there are so sweet!!! They genuinely cared about us and everything we wanted to try! The atmosphere was just as amazing! The staff made our evening so enjoyable!! My daughter who is underage and we dragged her with us they brought her a water and made sure she felt just as comfortable as us! Not to mention the wine and cheese was AMAZING!!! What a disappointment! There were eight of us and we had a reservation on a Sunday afternoon. Three of us arrived early and ordered the charcuterie board. 20 minutes in still no food, no water, and no wine. I was suspicious when I saw two small pizzas come out from a room that had "Office" on the door. I think they were microwaving them in the office. okay When the charcuterie board arrived about 30 minutes later, it was a bunch of wrapped cheese you could buy at the grocery store. (Maybe that is what took so long!). The crackers and breadsticks were also not opened and arranged on the tray. When they served the tray, we still had no wine or water!! I asked the server about a wine flight - they did not have one. They claimed due to COVID. The server said the wines were on the menu and if you wanted to know about them, just use the QR code on the menu. I then asked how we would go about getting a glass of wine and she said she would send someone over. This was a disappointment on all levels! I would not recommend. read more

Small and quaint. This is a really cute little spot that we stumbled upon on our way somewhere else which made it wonderful. The prices are alright, I'd say ranging from $20-40 for a bottle. The only reason it's 4 instead of 5 stars is for the way their tastings are set up. You get very specific options for each tasting flight which makes it hard to try things you really want without paying for 3 sets of flights. Friendly one person staff when we went. A serious disappointment - the "winery" is just a tasting room attached to a typical road-side garden center. Having traveled some distance to the area, when we pulled into the garden center's parking lot we looked at each other and said "this is it?" Ultimately, if I lived locally and wanted a glass of wine I think this would be a fine option, but this was not the vineyard experience I had traveled to find. read more

This is not really the winery to go to if you want a "real" winery experience but it's cute and charming nonetheless, and the staff is very friendly. The space is very small and is just like an outdoor café/bar, nothing more or less. Half of the wines were good and the other half not so much. This place is good for the atmosphere more than anything else. Worth a quick stop if you happen to be in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit. read more

Went here a few months ago with a friend and were turned away as a result of agism. After watching several people order drinks ahead of us, when we made it up to the bar we were told that they couldn't possibly serve us bc they had a private event starting two hours later. We explained all we wanted was one glass of wine but were still denied. We were the youngest ones in there, but over the legal age and with the same money to spend. Totally turned off. Harmony vineyards down the road has a much nicer atmosphere and a much more friendly and professional staff. read more

Almost feels like youre out on the north fork but without the long drive. Love the 2010 Red but am also a fan of the Pinot Griis, light & crisp. Last year my husband and I went to Whisper and had a fabulous experience. We met Pascal, who gave us background history of the business, explained the nuances of the wines when we ordered our flights, and also gave a great overview of how they wanted to expand in the future. We came back for Christmas and bought several gift baskets for our family and friends, liking the idea of supporting a local business and giving away local wine. When our volunteer fire department started to plan our annual wine tasting, my husband and I both suggested Whisper. Usually we take a bus out to the vineyards. But having Whisper in the neighborhood, we wanted to support one of our local business, so we decided to make reservations there. We went there on a Saturday night, a group of 36 people. The tasting room at Whisper is set-up nicely, and would appear cosy, if it weren't for the frosty attitude the manager showed when we arrived. It almost seemed as if our group was a nuisance to her. They had not reserved a table for us (6 customers were there when we arrived), and upon our question why, they told us we could sit outside if we actually wanted to sit (in November....). They also informed us that we could not stay longer than 1,5 hours, as they were expecting a "larger group" at 6 PM (I wonder if they were expected to sit outside as well). They offer two flights, reserve and estate. Personally, I liked the Pinot Gris, the Riesling and the Merlot the best. The rose was horrible. From a customer service perspective, we all were very disappointed. There was no explanation to the wine whatsoever. We were given the attitude of "buy, drink, then leave". I felt embarrassed for having suggested Whisper Vineyards. The location and ambience of Whisper is very nice and convenient. It would be a great place to go to, if the customer had the feeling of being appreciated, and actually being welcome. Unfortunately, the customer service dropped extremely in one year. Instead of gaining a large group of customers, they scared customers away. I definitely will not suggest this vineyard to anyone anymore. read more

Overall a lovely experience. The grounds are beautiful and its nice to not have to drive way out east - Wines were delicious and the folks there were really lovely and service was fast and efficient. They really need to re-think the price of the cheese plate, though, it was a laughable about of food for 17.00. We have gone three times, once with a group. The ambience is perfect, particularly if you have someone who has mobility issues. In each instance, no one cared for the rose. The accompanying cheese and meat plates need to be larger. Each one is really only enough for one person, They need to be much, much bigger!!! That was a consistent complaint also. Spending a Sunday afternoon at Whisper Vineyards was not an unpleasant experience. They have a nice little tasting room, with some outdoor patio seating, but not a chance to enjoy any scenic views of the vineyard itself. They had "live music," which was really just one woman singing along to instrumental tracks, basically like watching a pretty good singer do karaoke. On the menu they have several cheese plates if you're interested in a snack. Of the 4 wines we tasted as part of the "Steel Tasting", we thought 3 were pretty bad, but then again we're no wine experts. The service was friendly enough, but it seemed like the place was busier than they're used to because the two servers seemed to be working a little too hard just to keep up. If I lived in the area I might go back for a few chill outdoor drinks on a nice day, but I wasn't impressed enough to include a visit to Whisper on a future vacation to the area. read more

We have been to Whisper Vineyards twice now and both times we had a great experience. The wine is good and the charcuterie also tasty. Despite the less than stellar live music we really only have one complaint: you are only able to tip your server in cash. Shame on the owner(s) / management for not enabling customers to tip their staff via credit card. In a world surrounded by technology, where many people don't always have cash on them, this should be automatic. The servers at Whisper are wonderful; they always have a smile on their faces, are more than helpful and educated on the wine. My only guess is they are being paid as servers that should get most of their pay through tips. We had no cash on us during our most recent visit and this made us feel horrible that we were unable to leave a tip. We apologized to our server to which the reply was: don't worry, we are used to it. This is not fair. The owners need to realize not only are they treating their staff poorly through this act, but they make their patrons feel like crap if they have to walk away without leaving a tip. Poor business choice. Not so sure we will return in the future. What a shame. read more

Outside of Napa, the purest bliss is found in this intimate, pristine family-owned vineyard, in an inspiring setting of hand-planted clusters of flowers and vines, where the most delectable and luscious of dry, sweet and complex wines, surpassing even those of Wolffer, Pindar and Raphael, can be enjoyed, frequently accompanied by the charming company of owner Steve Gallagher and his friendly and knowledgable son. Once experienced, one will wonder why they ever drove further east, when Paradise Found was awaiting them in St. James. read more

In an effort to plan a small wedding event, my fiancé and I visited whisper vineyards. We were looking to keep our venue local in that to support our local community. Our first impression when walking in was quite positive about the atmosphere. We spoke to the owners daughter for a little about the vineyards and our intentions. We were unable to speak to the party coordinator as she was out. We called at a later time to meet with her. When we sat down she was friendly and gave us a taste of there wine and the house beer. Both were very good and we were excited to move forward. We discussed our ideas and concerns about using the outside area, 1 bathroom, and potential weather. She said she would get back to use regarding our concern and of course food choices. Since then we had receive 1 call back with the site fee of $500 which sounded great. She said she would get all the answers to our concerns in the next coming days. We'll since then we had gone back to see the place, have a drink and spoke to the owners son in-law which he said he was a partner and had a few drinks under his belt. Never-less he said they are building an additional bathroom which would be completed in time for our party. From the time we first met two months ago till now we have had no calls returned, no food options and none of our concerns answered. My fiancé had placed many calls back and yet no answers or calls back until yesterday. They had answers to some of the concerns and then tried to slide in that the site fee is $2000 and that no additional bathrooms are being built. My fiancé said to the in-house planner that she already told us the site fee was $500. She simply said that it gone up and there is nothing she could do. The place from our point is a poor excuse for a business and is nothing more than a bait n switch tactic. It's not the money but just the principle of no way to conduct good business. We are quite disappointed by this and furthermore that we wanted to support our local businesses. We felt compelled to share this and warn other Long Island consumers. read more
