Whistle Stop Coffee Shop is a fantastic coffee shop on Main Street in Lee's Summit. I met a friend there this morning for coffee, but I was able to order a French Vanilla pour over. The beans were ground fresh for me. I love French Vanilla coffee, but it's not my wife's favorite. So it was nice to be able to get a cup and enjoy it. I also ordered biscuits and gravy and a glass of milk, which were very tasty. I brought my wife home a cinnamon roll which she enjoyed. She said it was good. The front of the house is pretty bustling and lively. At the back of the restaurant, there's a quieter room and outdoor dining on the patio. I will definitely be returning to this location. Whistle stop has long been a favorite in the LS area. Every day they have a quiche of the day, today was a broccoli or sausage option. I got the broccoli and as always it was delicious. I decided to try another one of their summer drinks. A week ago I had the Strawberry Matcha latte. It was a vanilla latte, strawberry puree and matcha cold foam and it was so yummy. Today I picked the Maple Blueberry Pancake and it too is delicious. It's a latte with blueberry on the bottom, milk, latte, cold foam and maple sprinkles. It does not have an overwhelming maple flavor and I almost wish it had more. The service here is always great and they have tons of seating options. It's been a while since I've been here, and normally come here for free the "Terminator"breakfast sandwich (which I recommend, so long it hasn't changed) but today I chose the cowboy quiche, which was their special, but wished I had stuck with my regular choice since the quiche was hardly a quiche and it was bland. That wasn't the only bland thing. The coffee was very weak and tasteless. In fact, the regular flavor, which I normally drink, was so weak I hardly added cream and it had an off-white look. Typically, their coffee passes, but this was like tea, but even tea can be strong at times. It's disappointing, since we are supposed to be hosting the FIFA World Cup nearby, and I really don't believe we've had any foreign visitors here in L.S., but if any came here I'd be afraid they might judge L S. coffee as weak, when, trust me, you can get good coffee at other establishments. Maybe someone should bring in some Starbucks, since theirs is normally nuclear, growing cheat hairs, and mix it with the tea and coffee they have here. read more

This is a little gem located downtown Lee's Summit and a very popular place to visit at that. Every time I walk through those doors, they are busy but in the best way possible. Their food is great and they have a lot of menu items and their coffee is usually pretty tasty. This trip I got the blackberry vanilla latte with almond milk and the Monte sandwich. While I've had better lattes here, the sandwich was really good and I will definitely be ordering it again. We absolutely loved their coffee selection and oh my was the pumpkin foam delish. As for food we enjoyed everything we had. Everything was fresh and tasty. The ambiance was adorable and cozy. They have so much to pick from so anyone can find something on the menu. And the employees were very sweet and attentive. My only complaint was the quiche. If you are a quiche lover like me. Theirs might not be the one. It's not fluffy and really just feels and taste like an egg bake. I really wanted to like this place. I've lived in LS since 2008 and hadn't gotten around to this place. And I'd heard good things. So I'll start with the good: - charm. It's a pretty downtown location. The decor is cozy and nicely decked out for Christmas. - chairs. They spent a little extra on padded leather to save our butts. - service. They're quick and polite. - cleanliness. Now for the less good: - layout. Everything feels tight. It's prettier than it is practical. - drink quality. My daughter found her spiced chai (pictured) overly sweet. And if you look at the pic, you'll notice that they gave her basically 2/3 of a cup. That pic was taken before she took a single sip (yes, I know the straw I used to show the amount looks used; I did use it to search for a tea bag in my tea fog. See below!). My cinnamon/butterscotch tea fog was, to put it politely, unimpressive. I left it steeping at least 15 minutes because it was way too hot to drink. And then I had to get a straw to search for tea bags, because it tasted like hot foamy water and I was convinced they'd forgotten to put the tea bags in. Well, they hadn't. There was one tea bag. My standard of comparison is Gusto over by Longview, which makes the best tea fogs in town. They use two tea bags and it tastes like heaven. Whatever they served me at Whistle Stop tasted like perfumed water. So overall, I give it a 3/5. Points for location and decor and nice chairs. But the main attraction should be the drinks, and they were both kinda terrible. And there's just no excuse for serving someone 2/3 of a cup when we're paying $6 for a small drink. read more

They have booth, bar, and outdoor seating. This is a great place to meet up with friends or study groups. The staff is very friendly and helpful! I recently arranged for a large group of people to meet me there, and the manager helped me rearrange and set up tables in the back outdoor seating area. I'm rarely in this part of town, other than to see my accountant, two or three times a year. Usually, my accountant is in a dreary part of town so I usually hit the highway right after and head home. But today, I was craving coffee, so I did a quick Google Maps search and saw this was the closest one, and I didn't want to go to a Starbucks. I'm not too familiar with Lee's Summit but the area where the coffee house is in looks like Old Overland Park's downtown area. It comes with railroad tracks across the street and I did get to witness a train coming through! But while this place is a bit louder than the average coffee joint, it isn't the train, it is the sheer number of people that seem to love this place. I sat down (got the last seat) to get a coffee (black) and a scone (blueberry). The 12 oz coffee, while a bit bland, is a bit above average for the city. The scone is a weird piece, most scones I've had (including in England), are often leavened to a certain degree. The scone here was flat, with the thickness of a thin, double stacked cookie. However, it did not take away from the taste, which was very good. I paid $8.00 (after taxes and tip) for them, which is a bit less than the trendy places like Messenger/Roasterie, but on average to the one store independents. The one thing I did like was the people watching. I don't know too much of Lee's Summit, but there was a nice diversity of people coming in and out of this place. I think if you are looking for coffee and a pastry, you would be well served here. Trust me, the day after I went here, I went to the Roasterie and was treated very shabbily, so compared to them, this place is a big improvement. read more

When it was suggested to take a business meeting at Whistle Stop Coffee I jumped at the chance. Since I live in Overland Park, it's not every day that I make it to this part of town, and this place looked like a fun coffee shop to sample. It's located in a really cute part of downtown Lee's Summit, and I'm pretty sure a train goes by just across the street (hence the name). There isn't a ton of parking, but I was lucky and found a spot right outside. Be prepared to walk a bit if you come here during peak hours as I bet those prime spots fill up fast. When I walked in it was so cute, warm, and welcoming. I spoke a bit with the barista as I wanted something unique to their menu and I ended up with one of their speciality drinks. The name of it is escaping me at the moment, but I remember really enjoying it and thinking to myself how pleasantly surprised I was by this morning treat. We took our meeting in a little booth, and honestly it was all in all a great spot for a meeting. The wi-fi was good, the coffee good, and the ambiance really enjoyable. Stopped in on the way to another appointment, I wanted to try a new place. The Terminator has soft foccacia was soft not super flavorful but the sauce and sausage really brought the flavor to the meal. The banana loaf was smaller than expected and cold( they offered to warm it up but forgot too. The loaf tasted good just wish it was larger for the cost The grinder is a vegetarian version of the Terminator. I would get the sandwich again and try another pastry as they had plenty. read more

So disappointed, I ordered a hot specialty coffee and was given the iced version of it. They were pleasant and remade it (yes, they made the mistake). They are busy expanding and it can't come soon enough, my only reason for withholding that 5th star is because it's a risky business to make plans to meet up here because there's not much seating! Ironically, our Amtrak train delay began in front of Whistle Stop Coffee and ended with the train whistle calling us back in a hurry. Trying to be optimistic about the burgeoning travel issues, we were excited to walk over and try this spot out. I'd already been through several black coffees that morning, so I tried an iced blueberry cold brew that was pretty tasty. It was a tiny bit sweeter than I prefer, but overall was well made and hit the spot on a warm July morning. The place was poppin' and had good energy from both the patrons and baristas. I honestly have been coming to whistle stop for years. I've always enjoyed getting a coffee from them, and their food/drinks are good, but their service is absolutely terrible. No matter how busy they are they always seem to take way too long to make my drink. Even today I came in, they were hardly busy, there wasn't anyone in front of me, and they just kinda stood around, wiping random things but not making my drink? When someone else came in and ordered, they got their drink, and then I finally got mine? I honestly have never left a yelp review but I felt this was my time to do so. They don't know how to handle the costumers they get. Last time I was here my mom and I sat for about 45mins and as we were leaving they finally came out with our food, just to give it to a guy who was already served. Thankfully he came up to us and asked if it was ours, the costumer, not the worker. I'm absolutely disappointed with the service I get here, it seems the past two years I've come here there's always an issue with my order, or it takes an unreasonable time just to get one coffee(and I understand a business being busy, I've worked as a barista before and this is unacceptable). They need to change something, cause I really do enjoy whistle stop, but they always give me some sort of issue. I cannot take their service being this bad anymore. Please do something! read more

I have had sandwiches here before and they were great, but today I was very disappointed. We often order in for lunch and I had my choice of several places and decided to order from Whistle Stop. I ordered a 1/2 Cuban and half a salad. I ordered a buffalo chicken panini for my husband and another gentleman got a whole Cuban panini. The menu stated that the Cuban had mushrooms, cheese, red peppers and some sauce. My sandwich had a slice of turkey, a slice of ham and some sauce-no cheese or vegetables. The bread was very tough. My colleagues sandwich had only one slice of ham on it and some sauce. When talking around the office I learned that this place was recently sold so maybe that is the issue. Nevertheless there are too many other great options in Lees Summit for me to try this place again. Hopefully the coffee and pastries are better or this place won't survive. read more

This is a great local coffee shop! I really enjoy the iced vanilla latte as it is not too sweet. I love coffee but am not a huge sugary coffee fan. The shop is pretty big and has a a really cute garage/patio with a green vine wall. The staff is very kind and helpful. Terrible experience, I had such high hopes. I was so disappointed at Whistle Stop after all the good things I've heard. I got there at 8AM on a Saturday, after getting my coffee ( which was too cold to be a hot latte), they made me wait 25 MINUTES for the most gas-station sandwich I've ever had in my life, which also cost about $8. I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt and try again but the wait was ridiculous considering there was no rush and like 12 people working. The latte was really good, but cold.
