    The vault

We wandered into the Whistlepig today. It is probably one of the coolest bars I've ever seen! It's in an old bank building, and the play on banking is both kitschy and clever! It is only a bar they do not have food. Being that it's in Louisville it is bourbon driven. They do tastings in the dining room for approximately $50 a person or you can do the more exclusive tastings in the vault which is approximately $300 a person. Or if there's available seats at the bar, you can just cozy up to the bar and order the most fun drink called: when pigs fly. Somebody in your group needs to order this because they put the shaker in the old pneumatic tube system and it gets whipped around the tubes... "shaking" your cocktail as it travels! It is seriously so cool! I would highly recommend having reservations, and I believe you would absolutely have to have them for the tastings. Also, one other thing to note, is they close at 5 PM. I wish I was a good day drinker because this place is so cool. I have to come in here again and order that flying pig!

Such an amazing experience ! The Whistle Pig Vault is based out of an old bank and it still holds the whimsy of the old bank style interior with the vault available for those that are doing private tastings. *Also a great photo spot! Our bartender Penny was amazing! She was engaging, funny and very hospitable during our entire reservation! I opted for the paper plane cocktail which is what they are known for as it is a pneumatic based drink that gets pushed through an old bank teller tube structure. The cocktail itself was refreshing and delicious with the addition of the aperol. At the time of my visit they also had the LE 10 YR gold pig which we got to dip ourselves! The overall experience was amazing so I highly recommend making that reservation at the bar.

Wonderful transformation of a lovely historic building into WhistlePig Whiskey! Make reservations during prime times. Tastings and specialty cocktails. Friendly staff eager to share WP details. Loaded gift shop with interesting, high-end goodies.

This space is truly beautiful! Not large, but the details were lovely. Didn't realize reservations were required but got lucky they were able to squeeze us in. There was an amazing group of women running the show and they were killing it. The cocktails we had were delicious. Also had a pour of the boss hog feather and flame and it was next level! Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.

Allison went above and beyond to create some amazing memories for my husband and I. She was thorough in her recommendations to me since I had never tasted WhistlePig. We ended up buying a bottle because it was an amazing experience attached to a great pour of that bourbon. Thank you Allison for showing us first class hospitality!

The whole experience was amazing. I am not a bourbon drinker, but our bartender helped create something simple for me out of other mixers they use. She was truly a gem and spoiled my girl for her birthday. What a great way to kick off our trip. Definitely stop by here!!!!!

Are we talking "On Heavens Gate!"…read more Yes, Bob Dylan, that inspirational author, songwriter, wordsmith, and artist has a Bourbon. Now they were looking for where to build his so called place to breathe life into it. That "it," place. It's not in Nashville, it's here in small little Louisville. What better place than an old church? Bourbon and Church! Amen! All are welcome! Now they don't make it here this is where they come to pour it and enjoy the flavors of it. Is life about the ride? How about dinner and some Heavens Bourbon made and inspired by Bob Dylan in a church. It's a must! Now this is a small venue and off the beaten track of life. What drew me? A large image of Bob Dylan on a building, mural style seemed out of place. Come to find out explore more and salut to a better version of heaven in this world of art, music, and words that have never been better than now. This is not just a church but the grounds house an art deco museum to his work. It's true dedication to the man of Bob Dylan. A Tennessee whiskey, distilled in Pleasureville, Ky. This the final stop here at the Last Refuge to celebrate his legacy and better aged bourbon among us.

Turning an old church into a bar/restaurant always makes for a unique environment. I loved walking through the rooms and seeing all the vintage details and stained glass. The Whiskey room has quite the shock factor with floor to ceiling bottles lining the walls. No complaints to be made about the service! It felt quick and smooth! The signature cocktails we ordered were very good (not pictured)! My only disappointment was the limited menu. The menu seemed to be mostly appetizers and pizza with some additional options for entrees. We ordered the Holy Fire Dip for a starter and it was delicious! It was warm and had great flavor. The waitress did need to bring more bread, the dipping options felt sparse. My husband and I split The Burnt Offering Pizza and Sanctuary Sliders, they were both solid. We both favored the pizza but would have liked more variety. I can see why this place comes highly recommended for the experience. I would definitely come back but hope they expand the menu by then!

I appreciated the amount of space, and there were even a few tables outside. Bar seating, table seating, couch seating... I think I peeped a small room in the back too... all the options! When I was there, it was mostly empty, but people did come in and out. It was easy to tell who the visitors and regulars were haha. I enjoyed just hanging out, people watching, and chatting with the friendly bartenders. They have cocktails and mocktails in abundance... there's literally something for everyone. And they even had these chocolate shot glasses. So cool! All in all, the place just seems like a perfect neighborhood bar. They don't have food, but there's plenty of options around to bring in there. Music was great too!

The originally cocktail I ordered didn't satisfy me like I'd hope and the ladies were kind enough to make me something different, so I opted with my favorite - a spicy margarita with mezcal a few extra dashes of hot sauce! I was very satisfied with that one and would probably come back again next time we're in town!

I was able to ask questions on the Open table app about reservation and options available at such a later dinner time. They said everything would be available except when we got there the branzino wasn't available which was fine, we didn't want it anyways. Our server Colton was wonderful! He was very knowledgeable of the menu drinks and what was available. We did end up ordering some drinks. The Gazoz (nonalcoholic) & CSA sour both great and the flavors were very pleasing. We already browsed at the menu beforehand so we went in knowing we were going to get the Shefha, I let the birthday boy make the picks we got the crispy cauliflower and og hummus with the lamb and kept everything else as is and of course we got the included dessert plus a knafeh for the birthday boy. I don't want to spoil anything, but the food was exceptional! There was no crumbs left from us, we devoured everything that was brought out. We loved all the flavors profiles and the timing of each dish was perfect. We never felt rushed or overwhelmed. Colton was excellent throughout the entire meal, checking in on us and the rest of the servers who brought out the dishes were excellent at explaining the dishes to us. Our water cups were never empty and the vibes were so relaxed and casual. We will definitely be back because we fell in love with a few dishes that we can't stop thinking about and will have to come back. Definitely for the chocolate babka! I got some to go because I don't think I could have waited for the next time.
