After finishing our 14 miles of urban hiking through the city, my friend and I walked past this place on our way back to her apartment. She casually mentioned she had only been there once but it was great, and we decided we deserved a drink to celebrate our accomplishment and it needed to be here. The vibe was the perfect mix of friendly but cool. They have a few different themes each year, when we went it was skiing and snowboarding themed, and all drinks were named after different slopes. It's hard to find a cute craft cocktail bar in the outer sunset district but I think I found one! I loved the stylish and chic interior, there's a fireplace and more private tables towards the back of the bar. We walked in and saw a customer with her dogs, a dog friendly bar just seems like a happier place! All of the drinks were very tasty and garnished with fresh condiments. One of my favorite was the 131 hearts, it was light and refreshing with a hint of pineapple. My other favorite is the Tea Garden, it's a refreshing tomato/jasmine drink but not savory, it may not be for everyone but I enjoyed it so much. They had the cutest cactus and flamingo straws to go with our drinks. Both the bar tenders were attentive and checked up on us throughout our stay. They don't serve food here but I did see other parties bringing a box of pizza and eating it. This would be a great place to catch up with a friend or take someone out on a date to. My first visit here months ago was brief, but I was impressed by the sleek and chic ambiance--a welcome surprise in these parts close to the ocean. The cocktails are indeed well thought-out and well crafted. When it came time to pick a venue for drinks with a medium-sized group of friends, this place came to mind. This is a hidden gem for the sunset. This bar has amazing cocktails, super friendly staff and superb outdoor location. Cocktails are awesome, very unique and extremely creative mixes. You won't be disappointed. Very decent prices as well. They recently opened the indoor but the outdoor is so well setup. You can look at the pics in my review, I love the tiki feel for the outdoor terrasse, the dwarf palm street and the rocks, benches setup. The street is also closed so it creates a very nice feel. What a fun little spot. The Sunset is a sleepy area for the most part but the drinks here are worth the trip. Parking is a breeze and there are indoor and outdoor areas (with heaters). It's by far the most upscale of bars in the area, and is within walking distance to the beach. Dogs are welcome inside and out! read more

I live in the neighborhood. I have a rule regarding the local bars: tip well. If I walk in and the bartender knows, makes and pours a strong and generous portion of my drink without asking me what I'm getting, I double the tip. I slam the drink and I leave. I'm not interested in being in a bar for more than five minutes. If those bartenders ever need help, I'm there for them. So, when I entered the White Cap (across the street from the very hospitable Riptide) and it took the bartender literally ten minutes to run out of ways to avoid me and ask what I wanted, and then she poured a half-shot of Tanqueray in a Collins glass and filled it to the brim with tonic water - charging me $14 (double the going rate in the neighborhood) - I figured that she was trying to tell me something. I shrugged it off and went on my way. When I checked back six months later and the same routine started happening again, I didn't waste any time crossing the street to the Riptide. Obviously, the White Cap didn't need my money. Fair enough. Here's the one & only one-star review I've ever given. Cheers! read more

I'm not one to leave reviews but I had an extremely weird/bad experience solely due to one of hostesses/bartenders, not sure what she was. Right off the bat, she had an extremely condescending, rude attitude. I work in a customer service facing environment and was very surprised by her attitude. Not sure if she was having a bad day but I felt like she being EXTREMELY RUDE to my guest and I. I asked her something about about the menu, couldn't hear her so I asked her to clarify... and then she turned away and loudly said "ANYWAYS" within earshot. I was shocked. She had red hair, tattoos, and glasses. After we got our drinks, she never checked on us ONCE despite checking on every other party. As we were leaving, the other bartender said 'Thank you for coming', as she stared at us blankly. Worst service ive had in years! We went across the street at Riptide and the service was 10x better. Please do not work in a customer service facing environment if you either hate your job or don't know how not let your life negatively affect work. The atmosphere, other bartender and drinks get 8/10. Everything was great but this chick needs a reality check. read more

I highly recommend the Sunset Sandia - it's really refreshing. If your more into beer, they have a good selection along with a couple on tap. Yes it's a bit pricey at $13 a cocktail but c'mon treat yo self in COVID times and help a neighborhood bar. It's a bar not a liquor store. You also have to buy chips and guac since it's covid rules that they have to serve food but it's a great snack and compliments the drinks. Been waiting for the day when a trendy cocktail bar would open in the sunset and the day has come! My friend and I came on a Thursday night and to our surprise the place was actually really busy. We had to wait on the side for a table, but there's a decent amount of space in there. I ordered a Screw Driver & then a beer - both were good but nothing really too special. One cool aspect is the interior of the bar with the fireplace + their menu are all drinks named after tools. One thing I would note is that their straws are paper, which is really inconvenient when you're just trying to sip on a drink and catch up with a friend. The bottom of both our straws kind of dissolved in the water and couldn't drink from anymore... They're cute but not practical. Also, when I asked for the check, they brought me the wrong one, and when I asked them to fix it, they messed up again... so maybe they're still trying to figure out a system? = read more

I am so blessed to have a stylish space filled with friendly folks running it in my hood. My server Acho was incredibly welcoming and attentive. The signature cocktails with hand cut ice were Amazing. The space by the fireplace will have my name on it because it is the best seat in the house. New bar in the Sunset! Located a block or two away from the beach, this bar has a very modern and chic interior design with a few tables and seating inside. Parking is kinda hard to find in the area at night, friendly bar tenders, but as for the service, I feel it is slow. Took us about 10-15 minutes to grab 4 drinks. Their menu consists of mixed cocktails named after tools, and all cocktails are $12 each in the menu booklet. I feel like this place is trying to be trendy-hipster. We ordered some mojitos and it came with paper straws. It's cute and everything, but I don't like the soggy taste when it sits for a bit. Drinks seem to be expensive as well. No food served. Friend tried to order 7&7 but they didn't have some alcohol to make it, they asked for a specific tap and they haven't received the shipment of it either. Took 3 tries for them to order something. Stick with the menu! Not sure if I'd come back, rather hit up Rip Tide across the street but the atmosphere between the two bars are opposites in my opinion. read more

White Cap is a quaint cocktail bar on the small strip of shops on outer Taraval just across the street from Riptide and Andytown. I was pleasantly surprised by the menu design - a map of "White Cap Mountain" with all the cocktails listed. I tried the Hot Toddy and the Creme Brulee, both were great. Terrible drinks! Avoid the place. Bartender had zero personality and when I said the frozen drink I ordered was not drinkable it was so bad the bartender seemed hurt. He did replace it with a Manhattan . Manhattan was subpar at best. My advice, go to riptide across the street this place is a waste of time. read more

Cool loungy bar in the outer Sunset, one block from the beach. Dark wood with fake fireplace and high top tables in back. No food, no napkins, no waitress, very bare bones. Had the mezcal margarita which was tasty and packed a punch, but at $13.50 ($12 plus tax), only stayed for one. Headed across the street to Riptide for a $5 beer. Can't see White Cap surviving in this neighborhood unless they lower prices. Same owner as the Treasury, but doesn't really translate in outer lands. read more

Wasn't sure of the environment at first, but maybe that is because we aren't used to a cool place like this in the Sunset. I've lived in Sunset my whole life and now that I am older and more sophisticated (HAH!) I definitely can enjoy a place like White Cap in the neighborhood. We came in before heading to dinner on a Friday and it wasn't too busy. I would say this place is on the smaller side. There was the bar area and then a sitting area by the fireplace and then another sitting area with 3 tables off to the side. Glad we were able to snag a table and chill. The drinks were pretty pricey at $13.00, BUT! they were good! It was worth it in my opinion for a crafted cocktail such as the ones they serve. Their menu theme was Dances for the night we were there. Not sure if they rotate, I think they do? I am a Vodka drinker, and there was only one Vodka cocktail on the menu, so the owner ended up mixing something up for me and then another bartender later in the evening whipped something up for me as well. Both were great! I think one had hibiscus and cranberry bitters which I really enjoyed. Definitely a cool spot to chill and have some cocktails. We'd definitely go check it out again. read more

Dropped in last year and liked it well enough to return. The second you walk in, you forget you're in the outer aves. This place is dark and sleek, very FiDi-esque. You'd feel like you're at a FiDi happy hour, but you're in the avenues. Great cocktails that probably match the price point, but definitely do not match the area. Yea, that Financial District look comes with the Financial District cocktail price tag. If that's not your thing, then don't bother. It's totally not a "let's just grab a quick drink at the usual spot" a couple times a week type of deal for your wallet but also the service is a tad slow. While I didn't do the ordering, my friend did. He felt like he was being ignored by the bartender for forever and a day, but he eventually got our order in. After observing, most of the folks in the joint are locals and the bartenders tend to chat it up (duh). Just be a lil patient. I'd still come back. read more

White Cap has an amazing ambiance. A quaint cocktail bar tucked in the outer sunset across the street from Andytown Coffee on Taraval and a block away from the beach. Super unassuming which makes it even better. The menu is a music festival flier with drinks as their opening acts. The Ice-Teeling cocktail was light and refreshing. A heavy banana purée flavor served up on crushed ice in a Hawaiian mug. Recommend to anyone in San Francisco, especially the west side of the city. I wouldn't trek out of the way to get a drink there but definitely would encourage people that it's a must go to if they're in the area. read more
