Service was great. The guy at the counter was so sweet and felt bad that they were out of limeade so he gave me some chips and the salsa trio. Got the Bangkok shrimp and chicken tikka Marsala taco and both were fine. I felt like the sauces really carried the flavor of these tacos but it felt like the meat itself had virtually no taste. They weren't my favorite but they weren't bad either. I prefer taco billy by a pretty significant margin but I do like the creativity and mixing of different flavors. read more

We stopped for lunch while visiting Asheville this past week and really enjoyed White Duck. Love the uniqueness of the tacos. We both got the Chicken Tikka - which I liked more than my husband. They said this was the most spicy, but not in the least - and we even ordered it spicy. I got the lamb gyro taco and he also got the bangkok shrimp. Again - enjoyed both but nothing spicy. White Duck is an Asheville classic, and honestly no trip to my favorite mountain town is complete without some of their tacos. Our group of eight rolled up around 2 PM on a Saturday after a big hike, and the service was quick and efficient. We grabbed a couple of tables outside, and our food was ready on a rolling basis in about 15 minutes total! Between the eight of us, we tried almost everything on their menu! The steak taco was hands down my favorite, and maybe the closest to a traditional taco on their menu. I also ordered the black bean taco and the street corn, both of which were just OK for me. Back in 2021 I used to adore this taco shop, I was so happy to see that it was still around in 2026. I came here after an afternoon hike with my bachelorette party. The fast casual vibe was perfect for our energy levels. It is located downtown so parking can be a bit tricky or expensive. They have two single stall gender neutral restrooms here. This White Duck has lots of indoor and outdoor seating. You order your tacos up front and take your number to your table. I was beyond thrilled to see that my favorite taco, the pork belly, was still delicious. I also really enjoyed my lamb gyro taco and Bangkok shrimp taco. I was beyond stuffed. Two tacos is more than enough, but I knew I wasn't gonna be back in NC soon so wanted that third. My friends really loved their tacos too. The street corn wasn't what we were hoping and the bean taco was very bean forward. The queso was a yummy app. It was a beautiful day for their outdoor seating! It's in the back so it isn't too crowded. I highly recommend this taco spot for tasty and unique fusion tacos. read more

Big fan of White Duck taco!!! Used to go to the Riverside location a lot, but alas Helene destroyed it. Downtown is cool too. Parking is way more annoying than a dirt lot, but the tacos are just as good. Stopped in with the wife last week. We split 5 tacos and the salsa trio. Trio if salsas were nice, I'd never had it before. The pork belly taco always slaps, this new version with the onions and the yellow curry sauce is nice. Also tried the chicken tikka masala for the first time and was not disappointed. Fish, Zorba, and Thai all classics still great. Until next time White Duck, I'll be dreaming of your tacos. read more

It is a cool looking taco shop with lots of different flavors like bang bang shrimp, chicken tikka masala, pork belly, lamb gyro etc. Each taco is $5. There's a decent amount of seating in the back as well and this place was popping for a Monday during lunch. The food came out quickly and they were cordial. Unfortunately we were pretty disappointed with the tacos and the chips and salsa. Tastes very mid with the tacos not filled with flavor or enough filling. I had been to the location that was on the river before the flood. I was one of our favorite restaurants in Asheville. So when we needed a quick bite downtown before a concert, this was a natural choice! We were pleased it was just as good! We got some sangria to drink. Went for the first time on Friday. Counter service ordering before you sit. Pretty long line, but went fairly fast. Out of the pork belly tacos my friend and I were planning on ordering. Had to pivot, so I got the buffalo chicken taco and the fish taco. Buffalo chicken taco was delicious but the fish taco was jut ok. Chips and queso were decent but chips were all pretty small and broken. Would come here again, but I had hoped for a little better. We come here pretty much every time we visit Asheville. They have a great variety of tacos (even though the crispy chicken BLT is my absolute favorite!). They don't have guac, which is a bummer, but I'm still going to come here. I like that it is a quick service restaurant, but the quality is still there the tacos are a great price. Starting off, the location is downtown so you will have to find parking and walk a little to the location. The inside has 2 eating areas and is a pretty good size. The bathrooms were individual and clean. I got 3 tacos: the bangkok shrimp, Thai peanut and the chicken tiki masala. The two chicken tacos were okay. But the bangkok shrimp is the best! Was looking forward to trying this place as it was mentioned several times. Not crowded so service was good, ordered at counter and found plenty of room in back and on the patio which was great in good weather. Tacos were original and good not great as I was expecting. Shrimp was ok had better and they were small, and I mean small shrimp. You get bigger shrimp at a bait shop. Pork belly was pretty good had more flavor but the aioli was pretty similar to the shrimp. If I'm ordering two different tacos I'd like for them to really stand out in flavor. Honestly you can get a better taco at Mamacita's. read more

The cashier at the front counter was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was disappointing though. We ordered street corn and it did not have much seasoning, cheese, or even mayo as actual Mexican street corn has. We ordered one gordita taco and one lamb-gyro taco and neither of them were flavorful. I love tacos, so our first stop upon arriving in Asheville was here. I had the crispy pork belly taco with pickled watermelon rind, and the barbecue carnitas pulled pork tacos, and I thought they were very good and had great flavor, but I also thought that the meat on both tacos was really tough and that was disappointing and it also made them a little difficult to eat. White Duck Taco is an Asheville staple, but I only visited recently despite being a frequent Asheville visitor for over 10 years. I was very impressed! The service was very friendly and quick, and I loved that they had both indoor and outdoor seating. For food, they have a lot of different options for tacos and I love that you can make any of them vegetarian. I got the bean & cheese taco and the Buffalo Chicken taco, but substituted chicken for jackfruit to make it veggie. Both tacos were delicious with thick tortillas and a great mix of flavors. Been a long time since I went to White Duck, and for good reason. Despite decent service and ambience, the duck tacos are as cheap as they are bland. Had to remove the crema just because I'm partially dairy-free, but that would not have made it much better. The hero of the taco is the duck, which is just bland. Fruit only added a tiny amount of sweetness. What I've heard is that they're trying to make tacos more American, despite the fact that they are the EPITOME of Mexican cuisine. Y'all know what Lidia Bastianich said in MasterChef Season 4? "Get a good connection with the basics. Don't just fly off on a wing." The person she said that to was eliminated that same night for having no idea what he was doing and for not understanding that the specific challenge required contestants to replicate a dish before elevating it instead of just one or the other. Point is, whoever is managing this place needs to understand that as well, because if not, who knows when they'll shut down. read more

Really good unique tacos. I ordered the Thai Chicken, Buffalo Chicken, and Porkbelly and were all very good. Good size too and very filling.

The last time we were at White Duck was in their West Asheville location over 3 years ago and the menu seems to have remained much of the same. The plus was this location didn't have a large wait that I recall their other location having. We arrived around 6pm and it wasn't too busy. There's ample seating since they have two areas for folks to sit and dine. You order at the counter, are handed a number and grab a seat after paying. We ordered the chicken BLT, Bangkok shrimp tacos, the salsa trio for an appetizer, and our 2 year old had the cheese quesadilla. In hindsight 2 tacos was more than enough plus the appetizer. The Bangkok taco has a curry mustard sauce which I quite enjoyed, but the chicken BLT was my favorite of the 2. Inside the restaurant was relatively clean and service was efficient. My only caution is if you're a taco purist (which my husband tends to be) White Duck may not be what you're into (he says they overdo the toppings) but I still think it's worth a try, especially if you're looking for a kid friendly place to eat. read more

The menu sounds great, but rather than putting a twist on a Mexican taco, they just slap some other cuisine on a dry a$$ corn tortilla and their fans think it's creative? Mediocre shrimp and grits scooped on a cold dry tortilla? Instead of slow roasting or braising some lamb for an interesting Greek taco, they just slap some pre-made gyro meat on a cold dry tortilla? Standard BBQ pork w/ cole slaw...how about a dry cold tortilla instead of delicious jalapeño cornbread? The worst part was we ordered a crispy pork belly taco, but they brought a crispy chicken BLT taco by mistake. Mistakes happen, but they treated us like we were lying and wanted to check our order - but they don't offer customers any receipt, let alone an itemized receipt, so we had no way to show them what we ordered (and already paid for). And you literally have to tell the cashier how much you want to tip. Like, she says. "Will that be all?" "Would you like to add a tip for me to your total?" So awkward. So disappointing. read more

We didn't love that the chicken for both thai and Indian ones were just a grilled tender then heavily sauced. The shrimp and pork belly were super yummy. We went in with a party of 7. The seats and tables were old looking to a point that it looked more dirty than aesthetic. It was also a bit warm in there. The service was welcoming and helpful. We tried most of the taco offerings except the vegan ones. They were all very good. The lamb and Bangkok shrimp were the best. The chicken ones were basically just a chicken tender wrapped with some veggies. Not very impressive but it was good. It seemed like the place to be as there was a long line to get in. My husband and I came to White Duck because it was one of the restaurants we knew we wanted to try in Asheville. Both of us are fans of tacos, and we had heard good things about this place so it was on our list. We are both vegetarian, and we like that the menu includes multiple tacos that are vegetarian and they say that they can vegetarianize any taco with jack fruit. I'm not the biggest fan of jack fruit, so we stuck with the tacos that were already vegetarian. We were there right at opening time on Sunday, and it's unsurprising that there was already a line forming outside. They opened right on time, and the food came out quickly. It's very much a fast casual dining place, so people should come here with this in mind. Don't expect a fancy sit down restaurant because that's not what white duck taco is. My husband and I both got falafel tacos, and he got the banh mi taco and I got a black bean taco in addition to our shared chips and queso. The falafel taco was HEAVY, and I couldn't eat my black bean taco and had to take it to go, so that's something to keep in mind. My husband was able to finish both, but what was remaining of our chips and queso came home with us. The food is good, and solid, and you can't go wrong. This wonderful restaurant provided kind, quick service and delicious and fair priced food. To be quite honest, I don't love tacos, but this taco shop might have just changed my mind. Everyone in my party was highly satisfied with the quality of their food and would eat here again. They offer vegetarian (maybe vegan) options and have great prices for the quality of food you get ($5 for 1 taco that can be split in 2!) I would recommend any taco that sounds remotely good (you can also customize) but the creole shrimp and grits and pork belly is delicious. There is seating in the back and they always have a great song playing. I have no complaints and nothing but praise for this fine establishment and would recommend that anyone come here. I am a cheese/queso connoisseur! And this queso is up there in my top 10! We walked in and ordered a few tacos and a margarita (skip it, it wasn't great), and chips and queso for the table. The fish taco was good and the other one with pickles was interesting. I would have never put those flavor combinations together. We sat outside at the picinic tables that are covered to get some shade from the heat/sun and we're able to watch people float down the river on rafts. A fun experience and good tacos with unique flavor Combination. Worth checking out if your visiting Asheville.
