I got sprinkled on a bit during the light rain until I changed seats. The winner for me was the Hawaiian Combo with Huli Sue's chicken, pork katsu (breaded, fried pork), and three huge sweet chili shrimp, along with rice, Hawaiian macaroni salad, and pickled cabbage. Even my husband perked up with a "Yum!" when I gave him some of the chicken. He ordered the BBQ Sampler with prime beef brisket, pulled pork, and pork ribs, plus cornbread and coleslaw. The brisket was his favorite. The ribs had some of the white knuckle-like cartilage and connective tissue that you had to eat around, which I didn't particularly like. We found Hulu Sue's and there was a parking spot right in front so we decided to come in for lunch. The ambiance was friendly and inviting. I wasn't a fan of the pork, it felt on the dry side. We also noticed that NC likes their sauces. I mean, I like sauces, but I never expect 4-6 options on the table. This place is popular! We went on a Thursday night, no reservation but it was packed. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait so went for a walk around the area, but our table was ready in about 10! I ordered the huli chicken bowl and my friend tried the poke bowl. We had a good experience at Huli Sue's this last week for dinner. To start - we loved the inside of the restaurant / atmosphere / service / wait staff. Everyone was very nice and offered suggestions. For drinks - I got the Mai Tai - which was tasty. For entrees - I got the brisket nachos and my husband got the brisket sandwich + corn bread. He really enjoyed the corn bread. As for the entrees - the brisket itself was quite good in both dishes. However - I would not order the nachos as your meal...for yourself. Be sure to call ahead for seating with the wonderful staff because this place gets packed and for good reason. This place doesn't just make regular BBQ but a mix between Texas and Hawaiian BBQ! If you're looking for that savory/sweet heavy caramelized bark, deep pink smoke ring, and meat that melts in your mouth of a brisket or those Big Island flavors of Loco Moco, Hawaiian bowls, and Mahi Mahi look no further. I made the very tough choice to choice the sampler served with juicy brisket, tender pulled pork and succulent ribs with a cornbread that was absolutely out of this world and a side. My side was the very fresh and mellow flavored Cole slaw that I used as a pallet cleanser between meats. On the table they had three BBQ sauces, the LiLikoi gold which was a sweet yet tangy tropical mustard that pared well with the ribs, the Crackseed which had a sweet but peppery flavor and went well with the brisket, and the Paniolo sauce with tasted like a regular BBQ except with a Smokey taste which went great with the pulled pork! I got the brisket nachos, which were pretty to look at and tasted alright but were difficult to eat based on the presentation.
