Charming cafe with good coffee and lots of goodies! I popped in for a quick hit of caffeine and to take a call (I know, I know), and really enjoyed the vibe here. The place does fill up quickly though, be warned that the line can get long during busy stretches. Decent establishment! Funnily, I am not a fan of the crullers everyone else is in love with, the oil they make them in makes me not feel well-settled. Knowing how expensive oils are, how much they must go through, and how hard quality ones are to find, I am not surprised they probably have to settle in this arena. They have quite an array of options, decent seating in and out - quite the spread in space and on menu! Love that they have a very satisfactory drink station of all the options you could need for your beverage treatment, the only thing is it's only large enough for pretty much one person to use it at a time. Everything {else} I have tried I like. A little pricey of course; where isn't, these days? And there is thankfully nothing cheap or nasty about this place, which I really appreciate!! It took me some time to write this review because I didn't want my frustration over waiting in line for so long to cloud my judgement too much. So it's been a few weeks. So unfortunately, nowhere on the menu does it say that sandwiches aren't available until a certain time (at least I think that's what the deal is?) So I waited in line for 45 minutes or so to find out that I couldn't order a sandwich. The breakfast sandwiches specifically were available, but were pre-made, so they couldn't be made on gluten-free bread. My only option was avocado toast. I've had enough avocado toast to last me a lifetime. I don't really need to have any more of it ... Nor do I need to wait 45 minutes in line for it. But I was starving at this point, so I went for it. The gluten-free bread truly was delightful. It reminded me of the homemade bread my dad used to make when I was a kid ... but gluten-free! Really spectacular stuff. I have to hand it to them. Unfortunately I couldn't shake the grumpiness over waiting in line for so long only to find out I only had one option. (Actually, I'm looking at my photo of the menu now & it looks like there was a sweet toast option? Sadly the employee told me my only option was avocado toast, so that's what I went with. Either they were unable to do the sweet toast option or the employee forgot to include that as an option. I probably would've gone for that instead). read more

Lils Cafe is such a cute spot in Kittery and definitely worth the visit. GET THE CRULLER!!!! It was life changing honestly. Any flavor i imagine is wonderful but i opted for the maple this time. So beautifully buttery and soft on the inside with a delicious subtly crunchy exterior. I'm baaaaack, and I'm still super duper pleased with the crullers at Lil's Cafe. My memory might be foggy since my last visit was 2018, but I believe there are more cruller flavors now? If you see blueberry glazed (or another fruity glazed), order it ASAP. Next to the original glaze, they're my favorite, as they cut the sweetness just a bit compared to the maple glazed, which adds even more sweetness. Also, there's a good chance you'll wait in line--even on a weekday--but it's worth it, I promise. I don't know who makes a better cruller in the US. read more

Crullers are crazy good!!!! Come here and get them ASAP! We came back to back because they are that good. They are light and airy on the inside, with the perfect level of sweetness. They are very fresh and cooked to perfection! $4 each with a variety of flavors to choose from. I got one of their Greek salads, which was super fresh as well. It did not have too flavor though. My husband got a BLT. The sandwiches are premade and wrapped to quickly grab and go. The issue with this is that it gets very soggy. The sourdough on the BLT was mushy and unappetizing. Both the salad and sandwich were roughly $12-13 each. Lattes can be hit or miss. I got a maple latte the first visit, which was good. The next time, my matcha latte was not mixed well, and I couldn't taste the vanilla I requested. There is always a line, but it moves pretty quick. Plus it gives you time to decide on what you want. Workers are generally nice and helpful. There are seats inside and outside. read more

Restaurant was definitely packed with a long line which moved fairly quickly. We enjoyed some of the best donuts we have ever had! The maple and cinnamon crullers were truly amazing. When we visited we really enjoyed the sweet potato chorizo wrap. Will definitely be stopping by again on our next visit. read more

I can't believe the locals let us come here! I'd keep a GEM like this secret. I have never in my life, tasted such a good flaky, warm, toasted everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. Everything is made in house. You never had such a melt-in your-mouth cruller in your life. We came in fall, so I thought I had to try the apple cider, but we also got a maple and I have to say the maple was my favorite. All the syrups are made in house so I also tried the maple latte and honestly between our party of four, think we bought about nine different pastries so we can sample and share them all and everything was incredible. The pregnant lady sitting beside us at another table finally just had to smile and laugh because we enjoyed everything so vocally! There's a reason she comes here every day! It's soooooooooo good. This was the perfect spot to stop for coffee for my wife and I! Everything about it makes me think it is a popular local cafe with lots of regulars but sure it gets packed with tourists during the summer as well. We got in the back of a decent size line but the staff were making it feel like no wait at all! Lots of indoor and outdoor seating available so even if busy no worries. Their house made syrups in the cold brew tasted fantastic! My wife got their toasted cinnamon and I tried the mocha. I'll give the slight edge to toasted cinnamon. Hearing and seeing so much about their house made crullers piqued our interest and it being fall meant we needed to try the pumpkin spice version. It was straight perfection with such a light and airy feeling to it and it packed so much flavor into every bite! I have not had crullers in quite some time but I can't remember a time I have had one this good! The incredible taste of this alone would make a return trip worth it! The Lemon Lavender Crueller is absolutely the best donut I've ever had the pleasure of eating in my entire life. EVER. It showcased a pillowy interior that melted in my mouth. The flavors were complex and not cloyingly sweet. I'm kicking myself for just ordering one. The Italian on Focaccia was not at the same level. Since it was a premade sando, the focaccia was unfortunately quite soggy and dense. Right when I walked through the door, I felt right at home. The ambiance is so cozy and there are a few tables for you to set up shop at and meet with someone or get work done. They had a mountain of pastries on display when I went in on Friday morning. I ended up with the classic cruller and a croissant. Staff was friendly, but I did experience a bit of sticker shock at check out (the two items ended up at just under $10). The croissant was wonderfully crunchy on the outside, but when I sliced into it, the lamination was disappointing. There wasn't a spider web design, but a very large hole. I still enjoyed the crunch accompanied with the buttery inside though. The cruller was also good, but felt a little heavy. I would go back for the ambiance and to try other items, but for the price, I was expecting a bit more lamination in the pastry. read more

Best and worst BLT ever! I love Lil's and have been going since the day they opened. I never leave reviews but had to for this. Years ago they made BLTs to order on toasted focaccia with homemade chips It tasted like heaven and was by far the best BLT ever. Now they are premade, sad, soggy, and almost inedable. My family and I stopped by on our way to OOB. We all agreed the homemade French Cruellers were amazing, if a little more expensive than we are used to in Maine. Not anything crazy, but we just weren't expecting DC prices. The service was great, and the staff responsive. I have been to Lil's once and it was a solid experience. 10 Stars for the crullers. Best I have ever tasted. They are finally the ones that have been able to convince me that crullers are good and they are something I do love! The different flavors go from basic cinnamon sugar to fancy fruity coconut...at the center of it all is a high quality cruller. The parts I didn't enjoy as much... The building was fairly small or it least it felt that way on a Saturday morning. Literally people were bumping into one another or brushing up against others trying to navigate their way through the line and out the door. I'm sure some won't mind it, but I definitely have a personal space need. With that being said, the crullers are worth dealing with the crowd if you are in the area. Also by the way, it's crowded - that's a good thing, it says a lot about the quality of the food they sell. The staff was very hurried to move people through which is fine and they were moving people through quickly. Other than that, I don't remember being greeted or thanked because it was a bit chaotic. Such a little cute cafe!! My husband and I came here for the first time while we were visiting the area and I'm so glad we came here. I was hesitate when I arrived because the line was so long but it definitely moved fast and efficiently. We ordered a matcha latte, biscuit breakfast sandwich, and avocado toast.
