I eat a mostly Vegan diet and the mushroom and lentil turine was delicious! My wife's meal was a bit disappointing considering that we were in the "Scallop Capitol of the world". I wish I could give Pine Grill more than 5 stars. I initially reached out to pine grill to plan a funeral dinner. Mark, the owner, communicated with me directly and was EXCEPTIONALLY flexible when additional guests joined us last minute. The food was fabulous - we were there for pasta night and the pasta choices were all great. Gotta recommend the perogies as well, a pennsylvania classic. I also gotta say - if you're a vegan, this place will be hard for you possibly (but i think the grain bowl or beyond burger will work!). Pine Grill is an upstanding restaurant in Somerset (right off the Turnpike) with comfort (ish) food at affordable prices, but it also features upscale entrées as well. I got the mushroom soup - super rich broth soaking the croutons in flavor, very nice start to the meal. The bolognese had a bit of kick and savory tomato taste. (A tad more Italian seasoning would have hit the spot, but still was a great dish!) My friend ordered pasta with crab meat - real crab meat, not imitation, and she was pleased. My experience there was terrible so crab cake were the special and so I got them well yeah I shouldn't have! My family stopped off in Somerset off the turnpike for dinner. I found Pine Grill on iExit and also checked them out on Yelp. This is a cute homey very local place and it was decorated nicely for Christmas. Our server was awesome and had lots of good suggestions on the menu. My daughter ordered the kids steak and she even thought to ask if our 5 year old would want the mushrooms and onions. She did not. My eldest ordered a Reuben and a size of fries. It was a good portion and she enjoyed half of the sandwich. My husband ordered a steak and cheese sandwich with a side of rice. He enjoyed all of his food. I ordered a chargrilled chicken sandwich, which was excellent and very well seasoned. I will definitely put this on my list to hit up next time we are driving through this area. read more

13 of us rolled into Pine Grill last night after visiting the Flight 93 Memorial, all of us hungry and with exactly zero expectations. None of us had been before. By the time we left, I think we were all wondering when we could go back First off - Tessa, our server, deserves her own fan club. Patient, kind, funny, and with the kind of attention to detail that most restaurants only dream about. Honestly, she could give a masterclass on how to be a great server. Now, the steak. I usually don't gamble on steak at a place I've never tried, but they had a flat iron on the menu and I couldn't resist. Best roll of the dice ever - it was cooked a flawless medium rare and genuinely one of the best I've had anywhere. Everything came out hot, fresh, and exactly as ordered which is no small feat when you're serving a party of 13. Every dish we tried was excellent. And here's the part I can't stress enough: don't skip dessert. Trust me. Your future self will thank you. Bottom line: Pine Grill is now on our "must stop" list in Somerset. Holy Moly! This place is a diamond! We stopped in for an early dinner off the interstate and were blown away by it all! I had a pumpkin cheesecake martini that dreams are made of. Perfect balance and such a treat. Then came the food!!!! Calves liver was perfect with gravy and mashed potatoes that were just like home made. My husband ordered the meatloaf (a house favorite and top requested item). Mixed veggies and gravy were phenomenal All in all a feel good mix of the right staff, warm atmosphere and delicious food! Stayed in Somerset for just one night and wanted to try something local vs one of the big chains. Pine Grill was fine and kind of a throwback in terms of decor. Service was excellent and prices I thought a bit high for location and quality but all in all happy we tried it out. They have a huge bar in the back and a very creative cocktail menu. There was not much of a wine selection but I totally appreciate the effort given they have a local wine ( by the bottle) on the menu. I had a steak and baked potato and the potato was kind of cold. Worst dinner I think I had in my life. I got a steak and cheese sandwich, it was horrible. The sandwich came out with the steak burnt to a crisp and two pieces of shredded cheese. Also there was virtually no steak so it felt like I was eating bread for dinner. We were in the restaurant for damn near two hours and it took what felt like forever to get our food. My fiancee and I stopped here during our recent trip. We love to try out local restaurants when traveling. We stopped in on a Thursday night, which if you didn't know is their pasta night! I had my heart set on this crab alfredo I saw on their online menu. My fiancee ordered a classic reuben. The pasta was fantastic! The pasta had the perfect bite and you could tell the sauce was home made! We also ordered their tater skins as an appetizer. I liked them but didn't love them, they were a bit over-baked in my opinion. Dipping the taters in sour cream definitely made it pretty good though. Setting: I visited for dinner on a Sunday evening around 7 p.m. You can hear other people's conversations sitting in the booths because the booths share a wall. The women's restroom only had toilet paper in one of two stalls. Service: We were seated fairly quickly, but it took a while for a server to come. The server had a friendly demeanor. It took a long time for our food and drink to come. Two other people got their entrees before we did, even though they were seated after us. Food: I had a stuffed pork chop, baked potato, and side salad. The pork chop was overcooked and a bit tough in some places. The potato and side salad were fine. There were no light dressing options. In the beginning, everything was great, we got our drinks and the side salad within 5 minutes, then everything went downhill... No water refills for while and they took over 50 minutes to bring 1 meatloaf and 2 chicken wraps, the wraps were missing the bacon as requested. Found a gem in Somerset PA - 2 blocks off the PA turnpike. Warm country decor with very friendly staff. Lots of choices at very reasonable prices. My husband had their Honey Hot chicken sandwich, which was huge! Wonderful flavor, hand breaded, did not have much heat. I tried something different I had not seen on menus. The Pine Grill Grain bowl, filled with tons of roasted and steamed veggies with barley & Farro. I added grilled steak, medium ( cooked perfect!), which was served with homemade balsamic dressing ( delicious). I've never had fries on a salad before. Our waitress thought it was crazy I've never heard of that but then again I'm a Hoosier traveling through. After a long day of skiing we decided to check out this local restaurant that was across from our hotel. They were pretty busy, but we were able to quickly get a high top table in the bar area. Our server was friendly and everything came out quickly even with how busy they were. We got the spinach and artichoke dip to start with and it was phenomenal!! I really liked that it was served with fried pita bread and that the dip was smooth, and didn't have big chunks of artichoke in it. For my meal I had the chicken Parmesan which was really good and the perfect size. It also came with a side salad, but I wasn't a fan of the raspberry vinaigrette dressing I ordered, I should have got their homemade ranch dressing instead. I had a dinner special, a blackened fish with Avacado salsa. Again, the fish was cooked perfectly. The salsa was a different story; almost no Avacado, fairly tasteless tomato and fresh crème on top, which in my book did nothing for the nice fish. "Can you make a bourbon old fashion" drink, I ask. "Yes" is the reply. An honest answer would have been "no". An Old Fashion normally requires an orange slice and cherries muddled/ mashed in the bottom, with liquor over the fruit and a splash of soda to top. Instead I got a teaspoon of bourbon, two cherries dropped in a mostly a glass full of water. Service was slow to start, slow with appetizer, slow to get drinks from the bar (no actual bartender, wait staff had to make their own) , slow to get an extra napkin, slow ....
