I ordered the food from a parking lot, and then ran a couple errands. When I arrived at the restaurant, the food was ready. I chatted with Tom, the owner for a few minutes. He's a very friendly guy. I ordered the Pad Thai with shrimp and Spicy Basil Beef, which came with rice. I also ordered the spring rolls. The Pad Thai was very good, though I wasn't too crazy about the scrambled eggs in it. They were dry. The beef dish, which was supposed to be spicy, had no spice at all. The spring rolls had absolutely no flavor, as they were not seasoned at all. However, the peanut dipping sauce was delicious and helped a lot with the lack of flavor in the spring rolls. It appears that Tom is running the restaurant by himself, with no help, and told me that he prefers to do takeout. He will except people coming in and dining in the restaurant, but I believe most of the regulars know that it's just takeout. I'll give it another try. read more

Gayle and I were driving up to Ashland last week from Genoa. Susanville was a logical (and maybe only in these parts) place for Lunch along the way, and after several online searches, we settled on White House. This is a Thai place and you wouldn't know it based the building exterior. It's also a block or so off Main street, so keep your digital directions handy. The Owner (who said he was in his mid-70s) greeted us at the order counter. He was very chatty, friendly, and insightful. The drill here is that you order, he delivers the order in to go boxes, and when we're done, we buss our own tables while leaving any glass bottles or glasses behind. And since it looks like its just him and a cook in back, that's efficiency. We took a nice table against the front wall and marveled at the large space that felt like we were actually in someone's living room. Our order came out fairly quickly, with both of our choices being both tasty and in generous portions. I gobbled up my Pad Thai (with chicken and a little heat), while Gayle enjoyed her Green Curry. White House also offers burgers and sandwiches for those not so inclined despite a pretty extensive Thai menu. Gayle and I will probably drive this Genoa/Ashland round trip once or twice a year. And when we do, we'll be back at the White House. read more

I'm here because of my job, and decided to try this place. I've eaten Thai food in several cities over the years....and I couldn't believe how perfect the food was here!!! It's kind of a weird place inside and out, but it sure was a positive experience. The man that was in the front, was super nice and funny, and the food was absolutely exceptional. I got the Thai egg rolls and red curry with pork. I asked for "just a little spicy" and it was perfect! (As were the egg rolls and the sweet and sour sauce). Susanville has a Thai restaurant that rivals many of the finest Thai restaurants I've been to in other parts of the country. I took my husband for his birthday meal while visiting the Susanville area. The interior is nothing fancy but rather cozy in a way. The owner was very helpful and pleasant. We were offered menus to look over and then ordered at the counter. We started with shrimp rolls (the actual name on the menu I don't recall) that were easily the best I've ever had. My husband ordered Pad Thai and I ordered theThai Cashew dish. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The dishes were fresh and flavorful and easily met our expectations. The portions were such that we ended up taking some of it in the takeout container it was served in. The pricing is very reasonable. Came here twice while I was visiting Susanville for work. Ordered the hangover noodles one night and the pineapple fried rice another. Both times my food was ready in under ten minutes. I have to be in the area for work every 4-6 weeks and always base in Susanville for the week I'm here. While there are not a lot of dining options in Susanville, what they do have is pretty good. The White House and Mick's Big Bite Cafe are my favorites when I'm in town. I've been to the White House a few times and enjoy the owner's questions and service. He is a character and has a great sense of humor. On this visit I ordered Pad Thai with chicken and an appetizer of Chicken Satay. Both are excellent and the right size for one meal. I have traveled all over the US and love Thai food and especially Pad Thai. I've not always had good luck ordering it, but it's never the same no matter where you order it. Susanville is no different, but it is really good. Right amount of sauce and seasoning. Everything is balanced and she gets the spiciness where you want it. The Chicken Satay is great. The peanut sauce and cucumber salad are very good and it is the perfect size to hold you over until your entrée arrives without stuffing you. New to the area and happened to not be on the main road headed to Johnstonville road in Susanville. My wife and I passed the White House (non descript and off the main road). I saw the sign and informed her that we had passed a Thai restaurant which is our favorite. Went where we were headed and came back for lunch. We were the only ones in the restaurant for a while and the owner gave us menus when we arrived, explained to sit anywhere, and to please come back to the counter to order. Most of the owners business appears to be take out, and he stayed very busy. The menu was about 3 pages and included burgers, cheese burgers, steak, ribs.... Many options not just Thai. I ordered the pumpkin curry since I had never had it before, fried egg rolls as an appetizer, and my wife ordered the pineapple fried rice. My curry was incredible and my wife said it was the best pineapple fried rice she had eaten. All the vegetables and pineapple were fresh and delicious. We enjoyed our food very much. The food is delicious! I ordered shrimp and basil rice. Husband ordered pad Thai. Both exceptionally good. On a par with the Thai restaurants when we lived in Seattle. This little place tucked away in an old house near the Comfort Inn is, the owner told us, the only Thai place in Susanville. They do mostly take out but we ate in. Could have used some real dishes and metal utensils, instead of plastic and paper. But that is a small suggestion. Loved the sweet gentleman who took care of us. My parents live in cute little Susanville and whenever we come visit they insist on ordering in from their favorite restaurant in the whole town, The White House. Anytime I have to eat out in a rural area I always worry about restaurants not understanding my gluten allergy and the importance of keeping gf food items separate for someone with celiac. This place does a wonderful job of checking all their ingredients, labeling on takeout boxes what is and isn't gf, and keeping contamination at a bare minimum. Some of our favorites are the mango curry, the cucumber salad, and my dad and the curry loving husband of mine love the egg rolls and yellow curry. The owners are really wonderful people and we had the opportunity to meet them last year when they catered a small get together my parents had. Tom is gregarious and so fun to talk to and Joy's attention to detail is impressive. They're such interesting people with great stories to tell! Please stay away from this place if you don't want to be discriminated against. I left this place around 10 mins ago, and I am still in utter shock, disgust, and disbelief. My wife, I and our two-year-old daughter are traveling to Reno, NV and passed by this place. The restaurant was run by a male senior. After sitting us in, the first thing he said to us is 'This is a Thai restaurant, if you're looking for a Chinese one, there's one not far away'. We felt a little surprised as this was not the way we expected to be welcomed here. My wife even tried to joke around and said we wanted Thai food and we all love Thai food. We ordered two entries. While we are waiting for the dishes, my wife was showing a plastic candle to my daughter who was sitting quietly in her high chair. My little one immediately returned the candle to the table after touching it for a little while and never reached for it again. The gentleman came and took the candle away, adding that she might break it. After a few mins, the gentleman came and told me that he would charge 20% for tip automatically if we dined in. I told him I felt OK with that. To our big surprise, he suggested us to order to-go as that's cheaper for us. I felt unpleasant as he seemed to imply that we can't afford the tip. I asked him if whether he would ask the same question and make the same suggestion to every customer. He was infuriated and instantly lost his temper. He yelled at us that he had the right to refuse service to anyone and asked us to leave immediately. So, we just left as we want to stay away forever from that disgusting place. read more

I had some amazing thai here with some amazing curry and vegetable rolls. They seemed to have traditional authentic food and it was fairly quick. We got takeout, and got extra sauces, silverware, and napkins without asking. They out the rice in a different container from the curry which is nice! They wrapped everything great so it doesn't spill on the way home. We got there and it was packed so we ordered takeout and got out of there fairly quickly. Lots of parking space as well. read more
