Make a reservation! It's worth it. We've been visiting the Jackson area for years. Cross country skiing is excellent. This was probably the most creative delicious food we've had. We had the polenta fries and stuffed dates to start. DH had chicken with a creamy pasta -very filling and something that gave a dish an extra push to great. ?Umani? I had the kale, fingerlings and goat cheese in a skillet with a kolarahbi and apple slaw. We enjoyed a Spanish red blend on the lower end of the wine list. Service was a bit slow to start. One of the wait staff was ill. The hostess was doing double duty. Frankly I'm happy the person called out to prevent spreading stuff and I was happy to wait a little. The food here is unbelievable!! We had the calamari, the cider salad and the cod. Everything was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Outside looks like a barn house. Interesting. In the back is a barn yard cider shop that sells their popular cider donuts. We went here for dinner during Memorial Day weekend. We started with the calamari. It was prepared very differently from other calamari we have ordered before. The pineapple and rhubarb really made it different. Didn't think I would like it as much as I would. I would definitely order it again. My only complaint was that it was a little meager. Our entrees consisted of the Seared Scallops and Braised Pork Shank. The first was done perfectly. The lemon risotto wasn't strong at all. I finished it rather quickly. My better half had the pork shank and he felt it was too drowned in the broth. He finished most of it but felt it was too overdone. The portion was fairly large. We had the cider donuts and ice cream for dessert. It was very good. Warm donuts with vanilla ice cream was a good combination. For a cocktail, I tried the Lady of the Lake, and it was potent but quite delicious. I think I was tipsy after my third sip. Overall, a nice dinner, albeit a little pricey. We will return on our next visit. Loved the pineapple calamari and scallops. read more

This is one of the best restaurants in the area. However I do want to comment on the crab cakes. It's almost as if they took all the ingredients, put them in a blender and made a mash out of it. There's absolutely no hint that there was anything resembling a piece of crab meat in there. Although they are tasty they look like cat food. I would appreciate seeing and tasting lump crab meat rather than a mash. read more

Four words: Homemade. Apple. Cider. Donuts. Mmmm I can taste them right now! So, this place is a cider mill and has a cute shop with a bunch of local crafts, collectibles, etc. They also just recently put in nice little deli section. Though I haven't tried the deli, when I went in to get my donut fix I noticed all the meats in the case were Boars Head, so they have that going for them. The restaurant is also quite good, but I've only eaten there once so I don't want to rate it yet. You've got to impress me atleast twice! We live in the Valley and this is one of our MOST favorite places. We frequent the Cider House several times a month. Everything is great - upscale food, great wine list, romatic fireplace, wonderful staff. I love their salads, soups and all of the entrees & apps. Best place to sit is at the bar where Jeff the bartendar (and walking encyclopedia about wine, beer and cocktails) will help you with drink and dinner choices. This great restaurant boasts an excellent menu, a superb bar and a good deli/market annex, to cover your breakfast, lunch and dinner needs! First the restaurant. This place is a regular stop on all our North Country trips now. The menu is focused, meaning it is not all over the place. It's contemporary (the home-made potato chips with an array of interesting toppings) and classic, with an emphasis on technique, simple dishes and preparation. Our most recent trip, I had a cider-braised pork with fresh beans and mustard spaetzle. My wife had a beautiful mushroom risotto and we shared a pork-belly appetizer and some chips. The menu has varied every visit but do try the constant dessert: cider donuts and ice cream. The bar. When we visit this place with another couple, we always sit at the bar. The head bartender Jeff Grdinich is a master mixologist, recently editing the 'after dinner' chapter in Food and Wine's "Cocktails '09" publication. The cocktail menu playfully works off classic recipes (our cocktail menu categorized drinks by century, e.g. "1700's, 1800's, etc") and current items (e.g. St. Germain elderflower liqueur). For such a modest sized place in an out of the way spot, this bar is very well stocked. We've alternately worked through flights of scotches, whiskeys and digestifs on visits, under Jeff's guiding hand. The price of the drinks is worth every penny. The wine menu is short but well-chosen. But go for the cocktails. Finally, the market. Here's where you can get apples, cider and deli items. We stopped in for fresh-baked breakfast foods and delicious sandwiches to bring on our hikes. Everything is right about this place. I don't know of any restaurant or bar in the North Country where you can eat and drink this well. Worth a visit. Also, we most recently stopped in with a 6 week old baby in tow and this was not problem (though we did hit it at opening). read more

We went on a Thursday night around 6 pm, probably should have had a reservation, but was seated anyway. Lots of good choices with local ingredients. Potato chip starter was amazing and way too big for 2 people. I am still dreaming of the bacon topping. My cocktail was fabulous, best one I have had in a while, had absinthe in it, subtle and delicious. I had the chicken salad with gorgonzola. Chicken was tender and the dressing was fabulous. After reading all the excellent review I decided to take the gf here for Valentines. Ambiance (5 stars): Wood cabin/barn cozy feel. Warm fire in the bar area and intimate table settings. Attire is semi-casual (jeans) to dressy. Service (2.5 stars): We waited over half an hour past our reservations to be seated. Our waiter was not very attentive for the first half of the service, waited way to long for our orders to be taken. Also, a table seated after us was attended to before we were. After our meals were brought service was stepped up to a normal pace. We did notice other servers were doing a much more efficient job than ours, so experience will be based on server. Food (5 stars): We had a cheese and jalapeno soup which was outstanding. The gf had pork chop with risotto and it was delicious. I had the duck with polenta which was out of this world. Portions were just he right size and left you satisfied. For desert we had the "famous" apple cider donuts and vanilla ice cream which was obviously delightful. Prices for the entrees were mid 20's, and worth it. Overall other than the poor service the restaurant proved to be worthy of our time and money and we would recommend it to friends and go back another time. read more

Cider Co. is fantastic. We have eaten here a number of times over the years and it has always been 5 stars. Service and food is top notch. Reservations are needed well in advance. We have eaten at most all the local establishments and this ranks as the best in the valley....Moat is also a favorite, but these are two different places. Cider Co is an adult get away type of place. Note - they also make their own cider donuts around 7 am at the country store. Show up then and you get them piping hot! Applebee's quality at Ruth's Chris prices My husband and I had a great dining experience here in Sept. of 2013 for our 10th anniversary and decided to celebrate our 12th anniversary here on Sept. 6th, 2015. This time it just wasn't as good. Even though we wrote in the reservation notes that it was our anniversary, we were seated in a small room with two large tables of people. We couldn't hear each other at all, so we asked to be moved and found there were at least two empty small tables in the other area with only small, intimate tables. Why weren't we seated here to begin with? Did they even read the notes? My husband got a drink he liked at the bar before we'd sat down, but when he ordered a second of the same drink after we were seated, it was completely different down to the garnish. He was brought another- the right one this time, with no hassle, but now we were feeling like the complaining customers already, and this is not how we wanted to start our anniversary dinner. The crab cake appetizer was WONDERFUL, but our meals were just ok (I got the duck and my husband got the pork chop). We knew the prices going in, and don't mind paying $25-$30 for a good meal, but I didn't feel the food was so good as to be worth the price. Our waitress, while kind enough, was a low talker. We couldn't hear her at all in the first room we were seated in because it was so loud. I thought we'd be able to hear her after we were seated in the quieter area, but after two repetitions of the special, we both gave up. I know this is not her fault, but combined with the seating, the drink, and lack of stellar food for the price, our overall impression was that this restaurant was either not as good as we remembered, or has gone down hill. Seriously the best burger I've ever had. I'm allergic to gluten and they were great about substituting delicious pan fried potatoes for the French fries. The tomato chutney that came with the burger was awesome as well. Also had the blue cheese and bacon stuffed dates which were warm and delicious - especially good for blue cheese lovers. Although the entrees are pricey the burgers and sandwiches are affordable. Highly recommend. (Note that they don't made hard apple cider which is a shame but their cider is good). read more

We had an an unfortunate experience with a bug on my plate. A waitress going by quickly took the plate away. Our waiter came over apologized and replaced the dinner and took my dinner off the bill...what more could one ask ?? That being said, I am surprised that the manager never appeared. Yes, WMCC is as good as it gets. We visit once a year on our regular vacation and my wife an I celebrate our anniversary night here. The food and atmosphere combined give us the perfect relaxed, casual, yet fine dining experience that we enjoy. You need to make reservations. A brief description of my scallop and shrimp dinner: perfectly braised scallops and tender shrimp with a lemon butter sauce that compliments the seafood well. Tantalizing pieces of smoked bacon that pop with flavor. Local mushrooms and assorted microgreens top off this delectable meal. A generous helping as well. For wine, I chose a sweet Rose Zoe (Greece), and there were many other tempting choices by the glass or bottle. The staff and our host were personal and professional. read more

This place was absolutely wonderful. A restored farm house filled with upscale rustic charm, which included the staff. We found this place while driving by on a family vacation and immediately made reservations for when the doors opened at 5pm. We were greeted by a lovely hostess who chatted us up and inquired about our time in the area, this made the kids feel at ease and comfortable as well. The food was outstanding, fresh, cooked perfectly, delivered promptly and had a beautiful display. Amazing food. It's fresh, seasonal, and beautiful. Each plate looks like a work of art. The service can be a little slow but it nothing that would ruin a good meal. This is by far the best restaurant in the White Mountains. Have been a few times and have gone over most of the menu. The bar is an excellent oasis in a desert of middling sports pubs-- great martinis and elderflower drinks. Almost all the dishes were superbly done with effective restraint, save maybe the chicken confit which had a bit too much salt to it. Personal favorites are the vegetable gratin and the steak. Portions are perfect and the service and decor is delightful. I have one complaint. They provide an option for a basket of chips with your choice of sauces -- a great idea, everyone loves sauces to try out. But they bring out this monstrous almost embarrassingly sized boat of potatoes. It was a weird misstep from an otherwise calm and sane restaurant. We had about 12 chips total to try out each of the sauces and glumly stared at this albatross of starch before the waitress felt bad for us and whisked it away. It should be roughly a quarter of the size, keep the price the same, keep the sauces. Or maybe an asterisk next to it ("* - THIS WILL MAKE YOU LOOK FOOLISH") read more
