I am always craving ice cream at night and I forget that most places (even the ice cream spots that are usually open until 2am) are either closed or close early on Sundays. We trooped from the North End to Chestnut Hill to check out White Mountain Creamery. We arrived around 11:30pm and super happy they close late, at 12am every day!! The staff were all super nice and helpful. All of their ice cream is homemade and you can definitely taste it when you try their ice cream. We all got small sizes: one with a scoop of cake batter + scoop of oreo, one strawberry, and one orange sherbet. They all were delicious and definitely satisfied our ice cream craving. Their interior aesthetic made me feel like I was stopping in at an ice cream joint in the middle of New Hampshire or Vermont haha I loved it. I also noticed they do mini ice cream cakes... ADORABLE. Walking in here as they were one of the few open late on Sunday in the area. As soon as you walk in i got the feeling that i was actually stepping into a lodge in the white mountains haha. They pride themselves on home made ice creams, sorbets and sherbets. It was about $18 bucks for 3 small cups, you can choose 2 flavors in a small and it goes medium and large. We got the cake dough, strawberry and orange sherbet! I thoroughly enjoyed the OS as it wasn't overly sweet or too tangy, just the right refreshing amount to remind you of kid nostalgia on a summer day. I didn't look around much at the other offerings but noticed ice cream cakes in the fridge and sundaes available whether preset or custom built. They have cones (waffle or sugar) but don't have the ube or matchas that some others do but, it's straight up ol' American ice cream shop feel! Staff was cool, each person took a cup and got them made quickly. We sat at one of the tables quickly ate and got out of there so the staff could close up and go home too! Raspberry sorbet was not my favorite, it was a little too sweet and kind of slimy. Weird how it wasn't light, crisp and refreshing, like how normal sorbets are. Their coffee flavor was fair. I grew up on this place and I can assure you that it never disappoints. I went most my life ordering one scoop of Oreo, one scoop of cookie dough with rainbow sprinkles on top. Ever since they added "Cookie Monster" to their menu (I wanna say about 7 years ago), I have not ordered anything else since. Cookie Monster is the perfect ratio of Oreo ice cream and cookie dough mixed together into one flavor. Heaven on earth. The star to my burst. The fruit to my loop. The peanut to my butter. The hot to my dog. You get the gist. Incredible stuff. In general, they do have a ton of flavors on the menu -- keeping it real with the classics but also throwing in seasonal flavors and specials of the day. The soft serve selection isn't the best but you don't go to White Mountain for soft serve. You go for hard ice cream and only hard ice cream. What gives this place its charm is a few things: it's open until midnight everyday (for all you late night sweet tooth snackers), it's got BC memorabilia hanging up everywhere (GO EAGS), it provides free water and supplies water cups (huge perk midday after a run down Comm Ave), and it's got a state of the art gum-ball machine that hasn't been cleaned or refilled since like 2002 or something. Again, incredible stuff. Tonight in particular, after finishing my ice cream on the handy dandy outdoor bench, a flock of incoming BC freshman showed up all at once in their orientation squads. I mean the line was literally out the door. Ugh we love to see it. What better way to make new friends then to walk across the street, wearing lanyards with your first and last name on it, mingling with your new homies, munchin on some Cookie Monster ice cream until midnight? My review is regarding the service. I have been going to this place past 3 years quite frequently but lately their service has deteriorated quite a notch. Always new hires and temps who are not trained properly. My usual is always a small sundae which has 3 flavors and 3 toppings. The scooper without hearing me made a large one. Rather than owning to their mistake, they started arguing and explaining to me difference between small and large. Trying to imply I am lying. Finally after admitting that shes a trainee, still no attempt was made to make me new one or reimburse me the difference. I paid for the large, threw it in the trash and walked out. I ordered a classic chocolate ice cream and the cream was very rich, which I appreciated. The only reason I dock a star was because it was a tad bit freezer-burnt, but still good nonetheless. So good. I came here once after a run (more of a plod) in the crazy humidity and then again after a big dinner in a matter of two days, and both times were amazing, so that should tell you something. The lines go out the door so try to go later on in the evening, around 8 or so. The flavors I've tried so far: - Raspberry sorbet. Sorbet tends to be like rock chips with some fruity aftertaste but White Mountain's version was almost ... creamy? The texture seriously resembled real ice cream. I couldn't get over it. - Raspberry chip hard yogurt. Again, for something that's lower fat, they managed to make it really close to the consistency of ice cream. I'll have to try their soft yogurt next. - Cookie monster. It's mentioned in all the reviews for a reason. It tastes like cookies and cream and cookie dough had the most magnificent baby. Dairy sometimes gives me stomach trouble but one of these days I'm going to consume two scoops of cookie monster. Parking is an enormous pain. Do not turn onto Lake Street right after the tracks - you'll go down this hill of permit-parking only. Your best bet is to do a u-turn and try to find a spot right in front of the ice cream store heading back up Commonwealth Ave. Or you can do what we did and just have a friend run into the store, bring back the goods, and gobble it all down in the car. read more

Ordered from White Mountain Creamery on a hot June day during quarantine. I was able to order over the phone for pick-up. When I called in the order, I was also able to pay over the phone, which I appreciated to limit contact. The pick up itself was very smooth. I walked in, mentioned my name, and the worker immediately went to the fridge and handed me my order in a bag that kept the ice cream cold for the journey home - it was seamless! As for the ice cream itself: it's made in-house daily, so it tasted creamy and fresh. I ordered a large (three scoops) with Cookie Monster, Peanut Butter Oreo, and Butterfinger. I thought the Butterfinger was a bit bland with an odd consistency. The PB Orea was tasty, but the real star was the Cookie Monster - it was packed with Oreo and cookie dough. Grant it, ice cream stored in refrigerated conditions may not be subject to many bugs, but the dip wells, the topping and the employees are all exposed to these conditions. Simple fix, clean more often with the scoopers on hand or hire an after hours cleaning crew.. Mid summers night, this was clearly not a shorthanded staff issue or an aboration this was consistent and deliberate negligence of cleaning duties. I wont be back unless that changes.
