Ugh! Don't Bother! Known for their frozen yogurt?? Not in my opinion. I stopped in while walking around Chestnut Hill Mall because I had heard that 40 Carrots was known for their frozen yogurt. I am a frozen yogurt connoisseur! I was disappointed on so many levels. The counter person. Not friendly. Not attentive. I asked for a cup of vanilla with chocolate chips. I wasn't watching her make it and she handed me vanilla with chocolate Jimmies (Sprinkles) NOT the chocolate chips I had asked for. I told her this was not what I asked for but she seemed very confused or perhaps there was a language barrier. So she got a manager and I had to explain that I asked for chocolate chips. The manager said, we don't have chocolate chips. Um....what are these things right here in the toppings area that I am looking at with my very own eyes?!? The manager explained that they are carob chips. Ok. When I clearly ordered chocolate chips to begin with, the worker should have said, those are carob chips instead of just deciding on her own to put jimmies on. Again, maybe a language barrier. But if that is the case, please train your team members better. So I said the carob chips were fine and they remade my yogurt. Now I sit down to eat. I am ready! I am anticipating this amazing yogurt that they are known for. Nope! Not Good. Just not good frozen yogurt. I'm not sure what all the hoopla is about. The recently opened 40 Carrots is located on the first floor of the women's Bloomingdale's store in Chestnut Hill. The decor is bright and fun and resembles a fun futuristic cafeteria. The food focuses on fresh and healthy with lots of choices of salads, sandwiches and their famous frozen yogurt. I tried the sandwich trio which consisted of 3 of the normal sandwiches made into smaller sizes. The egg salad was good and was served on a flavorful roll. The chicken salad was my favorite and I definitely would order the large size on my next visit. The tuna was my least favorite but it wasn't bad....just nothing special Service was great and friendly. The prices are very reasonable ($12 for the sandwich trio) . Well, huh. Looks like cafe/snack bars are popping up in upscale department stores. After scoring a free Lancome gift bag at Bloomingdales, I popped into 40 Carrots for a late lunch/early dinner this week. Bloomies sent me a buy-one-get-one coupon for entrees here, so I took the bait. The spot is super bright and decked out in hues of green, orange, and brown- very new-world earthy and carrot-like. Our server, Paul, was a bit of a space case. He had all of two tables and took a good five minutes to bring us iced tea. I tried the chicken salad sandwich, which was tasty. I had entree envy over the spinach pie with greek salad. We split a coffee frozen yogurt, and I can see why people grab these on their way to do some high class shopping- yum! I needed the Bloomies charge points, so I left a good tip....but in the future, I think I'll just pop in and head to the takeout side to grab some fro yo or iced tea. read more

But the portions are small, the prices are high for what you get and the person who was working the counter and waited on me was a jerk. I got the garden salad and a bottle of water to help tide me over while I waited for a late afternoon appointment at the Clarins spa, also located in Bloomingdales. Where do I start? We were never seated, so we just sat ourselves. Our near non-existent waitress left the building right after taking our order. The replacement waitress stopped by the table once. My "cosmo" was carrot juice and vodka. All of the tables around us held heaping piles of dirty dishes. There are hospital cafeterias in the area that have better food and atmosphere. addictive personalities beware: one taste of forty carrots frozen yogurt will have you fiending for more. it's ridiculously good and like most addictions, it ain't cheap either. forty carrots has been serving plain tart froyo before all the other places made it popular, and in my opinion, they still do it the best. their froyo is extra creamy and has the perfect amount of tartness. a small cup of froyo is $4.50 and toppings are $1 to $2. stick to one or two because the cost can quickly add up. fortunately, they don't skimp on the toppings which include healthy offerings like granola, fresh fruit, nuts and carob chips, and of course fun stuff like oreos, reese's and cookie dough. second to taste, my favorite thing about forty carrots froyo is how they build each cup up parfait style. they start with a layer of toppings on the bottom, a layer of froyo, more toppings, more froyo, etc. until you have a massive stack of each in your cup. this particular forty carrots doesn't have a huge selection of flavors but stick to the plain and you'll be fine. you can order at the counter or sit in the cafe which has waiter service. also a great spot to stop for lunch with mom or to gossip and sip with girl friends. they serve light, healthy cafe fare like salads and soups, as well as fresh juice, coffee and really good tea. read more

I thought it was going to be sweet, but it wasn't at all. I would definitely order it again! The sandwich was great also....it came with a little scoop of carrot & raisin salad. I really did have a lot of carrots that day between the carrot juice, the carrot soup and the small scoop of carrot salad. And since 40 carrots is known for their fro-yo, I had to try some. I went for chocolate sans toppings and it was really tastey! It sure did satisfy my choco-craving! My friend and I went there on Friday for lunch. I completely dislike this place because of the quality of the food. I ordered classic tuna salad for $13 and trust me, you don't wanna try it. It's really bad. Not even close to any decent restaurant tuna salad. It was dry, almost no mayo, tuna tasted old. despite being a bit expensive, the food is delicious. since the portions are large, it can be considered a good value. i got the 40 carrots chopped salad, which came with tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, chickpeas, gouda cheese, avocado, and grilled chicken. it was light, fresh, and ended up being very filling since the lettuce ratio was pleasantly low compared to the rest of the toppings. my mother got the zorba chopped salad, which was a greek style, stocked with olives, feta, tomatoes, and chickpeas. my fiance got the sonoma chicken salad, which was amazing. the chicken salad had raisins, nuts, and grapes, and was flavorfully dressed but not heavy. it came on a raisin nut bread that complemented the salad perfectly. of course, we finished with a frozen yogurt which was light and delicious (although i do think the charge for extra toppings is a bit high). read more

I watched them make it, and he did not put in any parsley. I pointed that out. He said they don't have parsley and that the menu is out of date. What?! I am a loyal Bloomingdales customer so I was super excited when 40 carrots opened in Chestnut Hill several years ago. Although the mall has several restaurants I felt like it was always missing a quick grab and go cafe. 40 Carrots filled this void - and in addition their menu provides healthy options and they have delicious fro yo. The Food: I have had several items off the menu (soups, salads, sandwiches) and my all time favorite is their Turkey burger. It comes on a delicious roll (not dry at all like some of the other reviews say) with a slice of feta, tomato and lettuce. It is also served with a side salad and I typically take half of it home. I also love their fro yo, however I wish they had more flavor options (they only have 4 - always chocolate, plain, coffee and one rotating flavor). Also, I once made the mistake of trying their m&m like candy topping - and it was awful - so I advise just getting straight up frozen yogurt, it is delicious by itself. The Atmosphere: They clearly tried to make a bright, open and trendy venue for this cafe and in some ways they succeeded. However, it is clear that they haven't kept it up over the years (color is wearing off the booths etc) which is shocking and a bit disappointing for Bloomingdales. The Service: it is okay - nothing great nothing bad. Cost: Prices are fair - not overpriced and always generous portions. If I don't share I typically end up taking some home. Overall I would give 40 Carrots 4 stars based on the food and price - they would get 5, but considering they cater to Bloomingdales clientelle (upscale, trendy people) the atmosphere and service could be improved. I've started coming here recently and quite enjoyed the selection that they had. I love how they emphasize on healthier choices. Their cookies are chewy and crunchy which I love. A bit too greasy though. Their frozen yogurts are amazing. Although I paid $10 (never paid so much for froyo before), I didn't care too much because they give you a lot of toppings and huge chunks of fruit along with a lot of froyo as well. The clientele is exactly what you would imagine shopping at Bloomingdales in Chestnut Hill! I always order a trio of egg, chicken and tuna salad. It's very good but the price just keeps going up and up. It's not worth $16 even with the small froyo they give you. The kids menu is crazy - $10 for three chicken nuggets. The service was slow and pretty unfriendly. I love the decor. It is an experience and you can't get a salad easily in the Mall so I would suggest trying it! The food is healthy, attractively presented, not terrifically expensive, reliable. It's a soup and salad mecca designed for women who are watching their waistlines and probably shopping after lunch.
