Came here with a friend about a week ago, and we still talk about how good the food, drinks and service were! We had an outdoor seat, and mind you, this was during a major World Cup game so it was just...loud wherever you sat. But our server still moved us to a quieter part of the patio so we could hear each other talk. The sangria was delicious and full of berry chunks, and it wasn't too sweet. We both got the prime beef burger, and they accommodated my request to have it without a bun and with extra lettuce. It was cooked perfectly through as asked, medium for me and medium rare for her. The deviled eggs and smoked fish dip were great appetizers. The B.L.T.A. and blackened chicken sandwich were excellent. They had great flavor and the portion sizes matched the price. They have a kids menu and our daughter enjoyed her burger. The burger was supposed to come with cheese but didn't. The burger was huge and juicy, but our daughter ate only a few bites. For $16, I thought it was a bit pricey and we probably could have shared. Our service was just ok. We had a soda water and coke but never received refills. The brunch platter I received was overly greasy (the bacon and hash browns both dripping oil) and was overall underwhelming flavor-wise. The service, while friendly, was a bit slow. The interior was really nice. Plenty of seating for large groups along with small. Would consider trying again for a few small bites with a group of friends... I'd been at a meeting where they'd fed us all throughout the day so I wasn't hungry, but i ordered the Fried Pickles and Deviled Eggs because why not? My friend was pretty famished so she ordered the Ftench Dip. To drink, she had the White Mule and I had the Daisy Picante. Total bill was about $67--pretty decent for NYC. The Fried Pickles were golden and crispy on the outside and sour and crunchy on the inside. The Deviled Eggs were fine, with the fried shallots on top being the highlight. My friend said the meat on her sandwich wasn't seasoned at all so she requested salt and pepper and that helped. She said the au jus was good. Overall, everything could have been better seasoned but was well cooked and prepared. The drinks were FANTASTIC. They were tasty, refreshing, and just strong enough. This pub has a very English ambiance and reminded us of our recent trip to England. At early dinner time (about 5:00) there was about a 45 minute wait but we decided to go ahead with it because it could take us that long to find another place anyway. There's no real place to wait at the pub, but they call when your table is ready. As a side note, we spent the hour long wait people watching at Washington Square Park - extremely entertaining!). Wednesdays is happy hour pricing for ladies all night long, so I had a couple glasses of wine. The happy hour drink menu is a limited, and the beers weren't any that my husband wanted (who wants PBR at an English pub?) so he ordered off the regular menu and it was only a small $$ difference. Our kids had a delicious mocktail. For dinner we ordered the salmon (excellent, accompanied by mashed potatoes and green beans with a light wine sauce. I actually would have liked more sauce), fish and chips (decent enough to order again but nothing to go there specifically for) and chicken pot pie (would not recommend because it was just way too bready). This is a busy little place with what appeared to be a large variety of folks looking for after work drinks, students from the nearby university and groups for a random evening out. We came after brunch on a Sunday and thought we wouldn't get any specials but turns out they were offering half off bottles of wine. I got the portobello sandwich and a green salad on the side and my partner got a burger with fries. The burger and portobello were both a little bit salty but still good. But for some reason my green salad was really good. We also got a bottle of rose and with the half off it was $22. We also found out they have trivia on Sunday evenings and two hour unlimited mimosas and other breakfast bevvies for $30 extra during brunch. One mimosa is $16 so that's a good deal. They also have Happy Hour with $9 mimosas and other drinks during the week. It was a cozy, low key spot by Washington Square Park with reasonable prices. read more

I'll List some great things: 1) they don't rush you - they let you drink dat chit chat at your pace. They don't rush to get you out the door or pressure to order more stuff 2) they brought me a beer to try cos I didn't know how it would be - I mean who does that nowadays! Our first time here. We started at the bar with a round of drinks. Really enjoyed the bartender and all the drinks were perfect. A nice selection of wine and some really nice drinks. . We moved to a table for dinner and we were 50-50 on all the items served. I started with the smoked fish dip for the table, which was really good and seemed to be enjoyed by all. The Caesar salad with perfectly cooked salmon., be good. The dressing was light and creamy and not overdone. The French onion soup was tasty, however would love to have had a lot more cheese. Two guests ordered the chicken pot pie, which they said was quite doughy and had very little chicken. They wish there had been more sauce inside and not as much bread. They both said it was average. Another ordered the French dip. It came out cold, along with a cold flavorless Ajus sauce. Wen asked her server. She said it was supposed to be hot. She took her back to the kitchen. Another person came up and explained that it actually is served on the cooler side with a slightly warmer ajus. The replacement appeared very warm with a very hot as ajus and was much better the second- time around. They accommodated us without reservations, which was fantastic. The environment was quite fun. So being in East Village during Thanksgiving, we looked for a spot for drinks and they were open. As we entered , I noted they were running maybe at 40% capacity plus large part of the bar was empty. We just wanted drinks so the hostess mentioned bar seating included Diners so they had some tables to the back of the restaurant by the stairways to the restroom and kitchen. By this time I am like that's fine but aren't they almost empty at the bar. We didnt ask any questions. The bar tender was a nice individual and we ordered our drinks and grabbed thw stool at the back This is when I noticed a Caucasian family + a bunch of Caucasian kids drinking were at the bar --- no issue ??? We felt racially profiled at this point and decided to leave though we were warming up to considering having our dinner Given the vast number of great bars and restaurants in East Village, I will definitely give them a 0 star and recommend looking at other options read more

We ordered a burger and French dip to go, as the bartender said they were closing the kitchen at that time (hours earlier than Google said). As we were waiting for the to go, I went downstairs to the restroom which had no toilet paper at all in the women's stalls. When I came back upstairs the bartender was being so rude to my husband for asking if they had ranch. We went back to our hotel to eat and although the burger was fine, the French dip was inedible. Beautiful Christmas decorations adorn the classy wooden decor of this taverna. Spending time here is joyful and uplifting, especially if you're looking for that old world holiday charm. Warm and accommodating host. Waiters are efficient and professional. Food is standard American bar fare. Nothing to write home about. $16 White Oak salad was small and light. Very little dressing. Just a few pieces of lettuce (definitely could've put more of the cheapest produce imaginable for such price and portion. $13 chilly Brussels sprouts were tasty, but not crispy. $21 cheeseburger and $29 wagyu burgers were filling. Cheeseburger was served with all the side fixins', so that portion felt more substantial than Wagyu burger. Wagyu tasted more delicate. Less fat and sinew, which you could taste in the regular cheeseburger, making it a bit tough, if compared to Wagyu patty. Get your burgers medium rare, so that they're not dried up. Fries were standard. $29 salmon with pea risotto was disappointing. Everything on that plate was bland. Zero seasoning whatever. Salmon filet had a crispy skin, which I appreciated, but the fish itself was a bit tough, and again, completely devoid of taste. Risotto was plentiful but utterly lacking flavor. Felt like eating porridge/grits in childhood, when your palette craves flavor yet you have to subside on bland food. Skip--get burgers instead. Everyone in our party was insanely parched after our meal. Drink plenty of water while eating so you're not dying of dehydration for the rest of the night. read more

This is the second time that we went to White Oak Tavern. It's a beautiful restaurant/bar and the food is good, but I have to say what ruined the experience was the music they were playing. It had the F word in it, talked about wanting to get naked and having sex with people, and had the S word in it. I am an adult and have heard it all but it's not music to listen to while eating. Totally ruined the experience for us. Also there were families there and I'm sure they didn't appreciate their children having to listen to that kind of music. It's not a nightclub! There were young people in the bar and dining area but a lot of the customers were middle aged and older people and a couple families, so I don't know why management would think that that music is something that will draw more customers or make people return to the restaurant. read more

White Oak is one of my neighborhood hangs in the Village. Its horseshoe bar and old-world decor and ambiance is a huge win. Don't leave without trying the crispy brussels sprouts in the "Shareables" section of the menu. So good, you might want to order a second serving from the start. I checked in with the host at the front and was met with the rudest attitude I've ever encountered from someone in the restaurant industry. He yelled at me because I was confused to hear we got a high top table at the bar instead of a normal seated table that I expected with a dinner reservation. He followed us to our table and confronted me again there when I just wanted to drop it. It made all of us extremely uncomfortable. I visited the White Oak Tavern for the first time earlier this month and had a lovely experience! The decor is stunning (and super festive for the holidays). It's a cozy, inviting space and environment. The servers and staff we absolutely wonderful to me and my party of three as well so hats off to them! One of the pals I brought with me is vegan and was able to enjoy a fully vegan appetizer and meal (though we wished there was a vegan dessert option too!). The brussels sprout appetizer is vegan and, though I'm not vegan myself, was one of the best brussels sprouts dishes I've ever had! It was the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and crunchy--yum! Next, I tried out an Ancient Grains bowl. While it was good and made me feel healthy, I was unfortunately a tad disappointed in it. I appreciate the vegan option, but it felt underwhelming in flavor and texture. Overall, the experience was lovely and I'll be back! I'll try something else as a main and report back :). read more
