The Flatiron Room is a great spot if you're looking for live music without sacrificing conversation. We had seats right next to the stage, and the music was high quality - present enough to enjoy, but never overpowering. It struck a really nice balance and added to the overall atmosphere rather than distracting from it. The food and drinks were just as impressive. The Seafood Box was fresh across the board, with a great mix of king prawns, oysters, lobster salad, hiramasa, and mussels. The Peekytoe Crab Cake had a perfect crisp on the outside, tons of flavor, and an excellent nori aioli. The standout for me was the Eggplant Zen, which was incredibly flavorful and well put together. To drink, the Toki Highball was light, refreshing, and really well balanced. Overall, a great experience with strong food, drinks, and ambiance. read more

Wanted to LOVE this place... Came to NYC with the Hubby for a work event and weeks before had us double booked every night in town for dinner and this was the dinner I was most looking forrward to... We had an amazing time at The Flatiron Room! We had dinner on 06/16 and our waiter and the bartenders were fabulous. The music was wonderful as well. We had such a great time that we went back on 06/19 for drinks and music and our second trip did not disappoint either. The ambiance is fantastic with a cozy, inviting feel. The live music is terrific and so enjoyable to listen to. In addition, the service is outstanding. The bartenders were engaging and friendly and made phenomenal drinks. After our initial disappointment at finding out they were out of enough caviar to serve us the caviar toast (We had been talking up this toast since our flight in at 4 AM), the staff surprised our table with complimentary champagne and an order of torched salmon rolls with caviar on top! Didn't live up to the hype Visited The Flatiron Room Murray Hill during the Christmas holidays this past December (2025). This spot came highly recommended by my siblings, so it was a bummer that my wife and I didn't have the same experience. Maybe going during the holidays was the mistake, not sure if standards drop a bit this time of year, but something felt off. Let's start with the music, since that was the biggest selling point. My siblings raved about the live jazz... WRONG. No jazz at all that night. We checked the website beforehand and saw no indication of a change. Instead, the band played the same three tired holiday songs and left the stage. We were there for a full dinner, and I swear the band spent more time off the stage than on it. Next up: the no-hat policy, which I totally understand given the type of establishment. I was wearing a cheerful Santa hat and was asked to remove it at the entrance fine, no argument. But once we sat down, two nearby tables had guests wearing hats. WHOMP WHOMP. Santa hat went right back on. That inconsistency definitely left a bad taste, and it felt like I was unnecessarily singled out. This brings me to he food, it was... MEHHHH. Nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. For a place with this reputation, I expected more. The service, was also just OK nothing extraordinary. To top it off, I wanted an apéritif and ordered a Fernet-Branca and somehow, with that massive wall of liquor, they didn't have Fernet or anything comparable. LOL. No Fernet? Really? Cooommm'ONNNN All in all, I won't be returning. That said, as with all my reviews, I still think people should check it out and form their own opinion, just know that the experience may not match the hype. The cocktails and appetizers were excellent, and the live jazz performances were top-notch--definitely the highlight of the evening. The ambiance is also fantastic and sets a great vibe for a night out. That said, the service left a bit to be desired, especially considering the price point. Most of us weren't impressed with our entrées--they lacked flavor and didn't quite meet expectations. This place is fantastic. I don't know how it flew under my radar for so long. I'm upset with my friends who had been to Flatiron Room (Murray Hill) and didn't tell me about it because the setup is right up my alley. Thankfully, I had a friend from Canada visiting and my scopes picked it up during a search for a good spot near her hotel in Times Square. The restaurant space itself is very warm and inviting. After looking at the available pictures online, I was a little bit concerned with the view and loudness from each table. After seeing the space in person, don't be afraid to sit up front or on the second level of tables in front of the stage. The tables to the far side of the stage don't have a good view of the performers. So beware. Incidentally, I asked for particular table arrangements in my reservation notes and I was glad to see that the staff/management obliged. That's always a HUGE plus in my book because restaurants often ignore this. Meanwhile, the live music is such a classy touch to the place. We're talking live singers and instruments, jazz ensembles etc. The stage lighting isn't overpowering. We stayed until maybe 10pm on a weeknight and they still had music going which I thought was great. Often the live music is brief or a few hours at most. Anyways, you're probably wondering about the food. We were trying to taste as much as we could but the menu options are so massive. So we split the charcuterie board, the steak (NY Strip), truffle fries, broccoli rabe and the rest I can't recall. They knew were were sharing so they had the steak precut for us and brought extra plates out, which again I really appreciated. The drinks were great too! I was a little bit surprised by the consistency of the "Take Me Back To Tulum" cocktail (frozen creamy consistency), but it was really good. I had to have two. I think one of has had the "Blackberry Gimlet" another tasty option. There was a third drink we tried, but I can't recall the name. Suffice it to say that the cocktails are all VERY well crafted. All in all, we had a great time, top to bottom. I will most definitely be stopping in to visit again. I'd like to give a shoutout to Vasyl (?), the manager who checked in on us during the meal. My friend is Eastern European and they had some things in common. We had nice conversation with him towards the end of our visit. His kind manner stuck out to me. Stumbled across this place while looking for a spot to take my mom for her birthday. I wanted a warm, upscale feel with great vibes and that's exactly what we got! First thing, when making a reservation online be sure to select "Dining Room" and not "Lounge." Fortunately when we arrived the hostess suggested the dining room to enjoy the music. Shout out to her for looking out! This location also has matchbooks for those fellow avid collectors We sat down right by the stage. They have live music pretty much every day of the week so check their website for the schedule. The staff was extremely nice and welcoming. I wish I remember the name of our waitress! She was so cool. To start we orders drinks, I had a Tale Me Back to Tulum which was a sweeter drink made with blanco tequila, coconut and mango cream (which was delish!) mint, dry curaçao, lemon juice, and agave. My mom had her first old fashioned (very proud of her lol) and it was served with monkey shoulder scotch, angostura bitters, orange zest, demerara sugar, and hickory smoked. Knowing my mom's taste, I asked if they could make the old fashioned slightly sweeter and they made it perfect! It was honestly way better than my drink lol. Now for the food. There were so many things we wanted to try so we decided to order a bunch of appetizers and their scallops special. The apps included - Bourbon BBQ meatballs: overall solid. The sauce was smoky and not too watery - peekytoe crab cakes: this came with a nori egg sauce that really pulled the entire dish together! - Scallops: a few years ago I was burned by scallops. They gave me the worst food poisoning and I just never returned. However these restore my faith in scallops! Seared to perfection and topped on a bed of smooth and flavorful hummus and sautéed spinach. And as if it couldn't get any better, a tiny sprinkle of caviar. I came in for a solo dinner around 8 PM and, although I had a reservation, I chose to sit at the bar since it felt more casual. The bar was about 80% full. After getting settled and reviewing the menus, I waited quite a while before the bartender acknowledged me. I wish I had started keeping track of time right then, but I had no idea how off the service would be. When the bartender finally came over, I asked for recommendations. His tone was short, borderline rude, and it felt like I was bothering him. I tried not to read into it, but every interaction with him after that had the same energy. I closed my menu and set it aside, clearly ready to order. In the meantime, I started chatting with the gentleman next to me. Both our drinks eventually ran dry. The bartender came over to check if he wanted another cocktail, but didn't even look in my direction, despite my drink being empty too. This same pattern continued for a while. The bartender returned multiple times to check in on the man next to me but completely ignored me. He even took my menu without asking if I was ready to order, which I found odd. I could see him disappearing to the back often and spending time on his phone. Eventually, I had to flag him down to order both my next cocktail and dinner. I went with the Omakase sashimi box. My drink came quickly, but 30 minutes passed with no food, no update, and no sight of the bartender. The bar back eventually noticed and came over, kindly asking if I needed anything. When I told him I was still waiting on dinner, he checked the system, seemed confused, and asked what I had ordered. It was clear to me that the bartender never entered my order. Thankfully, the bar back followed up, and soon after, the manager walked by. I let him know what was going on and that the experience had been uncomfortable. I asked if he could speak with the bartender after I left, to avoid any friction. He agreed and offered me a drink, which I declined. He checked in again later and offered sake and dessert, both of which I appreciated. The Omakase box, once it arrived, was delicious. Beautifully presented, fresh, and full of flavor. The music and ambience were also lovely. The bar itself is intimate with maybe nine seats total, and the vibe was exactly what I was hoping for. It's just unfortunate that the bartender soured the experience. He never checked in on me during the meal, only came by to clear my plate and later bring the check. He said nothing while doing either. I stayed until a little after 11 PM, having just two drinks and one entrée. It shouldn't have taken that long. I chose the bar intentionally to make things easier as a party of one. The manager did his best to salvage the night, and the bar back deserves major credit for being the only person who truly provided service. I wish I had gotten his name to recognize him properly. I normally visit New York several times a year, and one of the highlights is always the level of service. This time, sadly, it was the worst I've ever experienced. The food, music, and atmosphere were all wonderful. But service matters, and I left feeling disappointed and confused as to why I was treated so differently. Been to a lot of bars in Manhattan, and this one is cool, intimate and feels grown up. Our bartender knew what he was doing and made up a cocktail for me somewhere in the neighborhood of a Manhattan, appropriately. My wife and I had a couple sushi rolls (the spicey tuna is particularly good) and the crab cakes. Oh man: the crab cakes! I'm from Seattle and eat a lot of crab cakes, but these were the best I've ever had. Very crispy outside, great crab flavor and meat on the inside. MMmmm. And the beet salad was also noteworthy. Valentine's dinner out in New York is traditionally a tough one to secure a reservation and to have executed well. However, The Flatiron Room @ Murray Hill has a leg up on most due to the decor, low golden lighting, magnificent fireplace and, our night, terrific jazz trio playing so many familiar tunes from the 40s (and reminiscent of so many film scenes). The cocktail menu was creative, elegant and delivered on the promise of a superior drink that was visually stunning ("Garden of Eden" in particular). I'd preordered the seafood tower for 2 and the "chocolate sphere" (which was excellent) but otherwise our selections were from the Valentines pre fixe menu. The peekytoe crab cake was crispy and delicious. My wife had the yellowtail crudo which she found delightful. She followed that with pan seared Chilean sea bass that also impressed her. I had a medium rare NY strip steak with a small roasted squash filled with very smooth mashed potatoes...but, unfortunately, everything on my plate was room temperature when it arrived. Nothing like room temperature potatoes to bring back memories of a lunch line. The steak was cooked properly but I found it a bit chewy with a copious amount of unrendered fat. The chocolate sphere was dramatic & delicious with a touch of raspberry with the thin chocolate cake and ice cream revealed beneath the dome melted with molten chocolate before your eyes. Great presentation matched by the flavor. The raspberry sorbet was yummy too. Overall I think The Flatiron Room succeeded on a night when most serve disappointment. I'd recommend a visit. read more

The quality of the performances have the power to genuinely take you back in time. I've flown through their menu and I feel like it's a good place for light snacks. In my opinion if you prefer cocktails I would stick with a classic. The spirit selection and the tastings are the star of the show. This venue is best suited for a person who really enjoys tasting unique or hard to find whiskey or spirits and jazz music. I love when they go on the ladders to get spirits for you and the tasting is pretty cool. They'll guide you even if you don't know a thing about whiskey. There were not many patrons there when we arrived and that was good for us... Each staff person that we encountered from the hostesses to the servers to the waiter were pleasant and helpful. We ordered the Focaccia to start, the Raspberry Spritz for our drinks and for our entrees I had the Braised Short Rib and hubby had the Skillet Chicken. The Focaccia was airy, moist and warm and served with a smoked maple butter which complimented it perfectly. The Short Rib and the Chicken dishes were exquisite - both hubby and I cleaned our plates. For dessert, we pre-ordered the Chocolate Sphere which was cool to look at (before the reveal) and tasted even better. Given the atmosphere, the food and the service, I did not want the night to end... I almost forgot to note - the band on this night was the Moses Patrou Duo, which sounded amazing... I was pleasantly surprised by the Flatiron iron room. I am always weary when there is a show "included" with dinner. Usually the food is not great and gimmicky. However, the food ended up being very good. The butternut squash ravioli was fresh and had a lot of butternut squash. Although only 3 pieces, they were giant. It was paired with pickled onion and cucumber, which I liked but my friend did not. The beet salad was also great. The beets were soft and fresh. The angus strip steak was cooked well, we asked for medium and got medium rare, but I was happy with that. The potato was soft and I was happy. Their Triumph cocktail was also a triumph. This review all started with an intriguing recommendation from Melville's own Glenn K, Yelp black elite. On his recommendation, I grabbed a date and another couple and we went. It was a perfect evening. Everyone was so pleased with a great evening of fine food and spirits - and live music is always good for the soul. Online reservations were made on Open Table, credit card was required to hold - no problem. We were seated at a beautiful booth all facing the stage. The vibe is definitely classy, but muted and a little old-timey (there was an Art Linkletter book in a corner behind me). You will be amazed by what resembles a library for fancy bottles of spirits everywhere. We walked into the early set by two performers with such a comfortable sound - violin included. Service was patient as we figured everything out. The spirits menu has FORTY-SIX pages. The first pages are for inventive cocktails, the smoked old fashions were coming out like soda pops all night to all the tables. We started with the grilled octopus, whipped feta (amazing), shrimp cocktail, a dozen west coast oysters. Followed by kale/avocado salads and a cheese plate. All the apps were amazing. Really good. Entrees we're all very good too - porterhouse, salmon, lobster ravioli and a burger. Now please try desert. The F&R dome is really an amazing site to be seen. Hot hazelnut, yum. The 28 layer cake was also special. The dram coffee tho - wow, out of this world. Very good drip coffee. It was nice to linger a bit while we took in the sounds of the Jason Ewald trio. I loved this place so much I came back twice in a week. The first time, we were seated in the dining room area in front of the fireplace and right next to the live music. I got the "take me back to Tulum" which had a delicious fruity foam on top of a sweet cocktail. It was amazing. They have a nice bar area available, too. Entrees: we shared the 32oz porterhouse which was the best porterhouse I've ever had. Cooked perfectly medium rare. Added the peppercorn sauce which paired nicely. Awesome vibe with great music! The decor in this place is chill and laid back. The bar is a bit small, but cute....accommodating! If you need to check your coat, do it when you walk in. If you need to wait for a seat, they've got a few seats. If you want to dine, ya definitely need to make a reservation. Overall, the beverage, food, and music are really good at this spot. No disappointments this night. We didn't really hear too much jazz, just some covers....even Prince's music. What we heard was pretty good from the trio! The wait staff is a standout one! No, it's not a steakhouse but the steak was cooked perfectly. It's not too flavorful, but decent. Those chive mashed potatoes....creamy, light, and smooth! Loved their charcuterie boards as an appetizer! The chocolate cake is a chocolate lovers dream. While I love chocolate, I needed some vanilla ice cream or gelato to offset the chocolate! This place has been evading me for quite some time, but things happen when they are meant to I suppose... or I just have no friends or opportunities to enjoy myself lol; Whatever the case may be, the point of this review is to absorb all my excited energy that I just can't handle right now. It started with a brief walk from my apartment as I often do, I've always wanted to check out fine and rare but this night just manifested itself out of thin air in the best way; one of those nights where you spend a fortune but have such a good time it doesn't phase you. First stop was a nearby rooftop I don't think anyone knows about and next minute I opened my eyes to find Fine and Rare; I just happened to be standing in front and said eff it, why wait, let's go NOW! Then I saw a tomahawk steak and I said eff it, I'll spend the $150! Glad I Did! Service was meh, drink was cool-ish but I liked it better poured into the smoke that was just supposed to be a cosmetic base, the waiter was sure to come back to comment about that but never came back when we needed him.
