Very shady. $44 for burnt garlic & oil pasta that was supposed to be a pesto, like let me know up front the dish was not gunna be a pesto anymore or just make a fresh pesto without animal for that price especially being I called prior to ordering with my concerns. I called before ordering the vegetarian pasta, the roasted cauliflower along with other items just to see if it can be made vegan and they said yes only thing is they failed to inform me that for the dishes to become fully vegan they would have to completely change the dish for example the vegetarian pasta has a coconut pesto sauce and evidently in order to make this dish fully vegan it would require them to remove the entire pesto sauce making just a garlic & oil sauce and In order for the roasted/grilled cauliflower to become vegan they had to remove the almond butter sauce that goes on before they roast/grill it and btw even with omitting the sauce you think you can at least cook it right but of course it was Without any char. This place was a recommendation by a local friend of my cousin for my dad's 78th birthday lunch. We had reservations for 6 on Sunday, November 21 at noon. For a place whose website advertises homestyle meals with a slogan, "You'll Feel Right at Home," our experience, unfortunately, missed the mark due to the front house manager, FABIO's lack of what makes most homes feel like a home, hospitality and manners. The wait staff was the exact opposite, friendly, efficient, caring, and engaging. They even snapped some photos for us, trying to get the best pic. The food was unfortunately, not that good. If the job of a front house manager is to make guests feel welcome and make sure they're satisfied, FABIO failed miserably. He did the exact opposite, he made us feel extremely unwelcome and invisible from the moment we walked in. He was more concerned with your vaccination card than saying a simple hello and welcome. Never once engaging with our table until it was time to pick up the cheque. That is when his lack of decorum confirmed we were not welcome. We were waiting for the desert and candle we requested when he approached, upon which he noticed a spilled glass of water had wet the cheque. Without so much as a word or glance, he shook off the excess water on our table as if we were not there while a look of disgust overcame him. He did not try to hide it as he walked away, shaking his head in disbelief. It was the most condescending and passive-aggressive way to handle a situation, especially since he would not so much as look at us. It would have been nice if he maybe offered to have someone clear the spill or made us feel like we mattered. I approached him to apologize for the spill since he was visibly bothered by it. I also wanted to let him know his reaction was a bit off-putting, rude, and uncalled-for. He proceeded to pretend I and my whole table had all imagined it, argued with me and raised his voice to reinforce his rudeness. The waiter immediately came over and apologized for his obnoxious behavior. We told him it had nothing to do with him but he said they were not happy if we were not happy with the whole experience. Unfortunately, we were not happy at all. A simple acknowledgment rather than a deflection from the manager for his reaction would have smoothed it out. Instead, he left it on the waiter to smooth out our ruffled emotions and walked away, disgust still all over his face. We exited with not so much as a thank you as we walked past him, the look still all over his face. How is this guy a front house manager is beyond me. I will not be returning here, nor will anyone in our group. We definitley will not recommend it. I suggest that if you decide to visit and see a white-haired middle-aged man with glasses standing at the front waiting to...greet you, that you exit immediately. Go spend your hard-earned money in a restaurant where managers don't cry over spilled water and have basic hospitality and decorum. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch for Valentine's Day. We're so glad we did. The food was amazing! So delicious was the food that I have to say it's the best in Forest Hills for me. The music was nice. The space and ambience comfortable and pleasant, and service was good. We started out with mussels in saffron sauce. I had duck two ways with roasted beets and sweet potatoes in orange sauce and he ordered the signature White Radish burger with fries. We shared everything and every bite was so satisfying. The duck was moist and tender and nicely balanced with the citrus sauce. The burger was also juicy and well flavored with the bacon mixed into the patty. The French fries, simple yet to die for with the right amount of crisp. The Malbec has a nice note. Overall, it was a great meal! We will be back and just so glad there's a great restaurant in Forest Hills. read more

Many dishes are outstanding, with a fresh, new slant. Unfortunately, the chefs are not always consistent. Example, Bronzini has a FANTASTIC mustard sauce. But lately, they've watered down that sauce so that it is tasteless. We still go there, but occasionally, it does let us down. read more

Have only been here for brunch but would recommend if you're looking for something in the area! The staff was super kind and attentive, plenty of seating inside and outside. The brunch menu is very basic and similar to what you'll find at other places but good nonetheless. The iced coffee was mediocre (it's just hot coffee poured over ice) but my server told me this beforehand so I knew what I was getting. The food was ok and the place looks nice but any meal that has me spending extra time in the bathroom for the rest of the night (I'll spare you the details) and lose sleep makes me question its food safety protocols. The only item that wasn't shared at the table was the Halibut dish that I ate which leads me to believe that that was the culprit. Food safety concerns aside I would've left 3 stars for food, service, and ambiance but due to the price point I would've expected quality to be at the forefront which brought it down to 1 star. Our first time here and we came for dinner, we opted to eat inside since the thought of eating outside with cars moving by didn't sound like too much fun, ordered a few items, BTW there is no happy hour so drinks were full price (bummer), but the worst thing was the constant fruit flies we found ourselves swatting them all the time and while the food was tasty the annoyance of the fruit flies made for a bad dinner, I mentioned to the staff about the flies and all they did was acknowledge their presence, so clearly a D- for service, all in all a pricey and uncomfortable experience. read more

I ordered a Pork Belly Bun, extremely disappointed. The pork was dry and extremely over cooked, the fries were mostly crispy with little to no salt or actual potato. The buns were almost inedible, with extremely tough pieces of pork and tasteless pieces of fat. A majority of items that other reviewers talked about (Lobster Rolls, Oxtail Coquettes) were off the menu, so huge let-down. My wife and I ate here on Valentines day, the first day NYC allowed the resumption of indoor dining. White Radish has the unique distinction of stepping into the location that always held the contenders for Forest Hill's upscale eatery. When we first moved to the neighborhood it was Q, then Jack & Nellies, and now White Radish. I was quite pleased with our first impression. They really impressed me with one of the appetizers. The oxtail croquette with truffle. I dislike anything with truffle, whether its oil, salt, or truffles themselves. Well, I tried this. It was so excellently made that I actually appreciated the subtle hint of truffle. I must also say that it was hard to choose our appetizers since so many were appealing. But we settled on the above and a crabcake. The crabcake was excellent as well since there was an abundance of crab and a minimum of breadcrumbs. I went for the grilled salmon and vegetables. My wife had short-rib ravioli in a cream sauce. It was all really good. The salmon was done well, not slathered in sweet sauce, had a nice char on top, and there actually were vegetables! Bok choy and white asparagus. Often times the vegetable part is no more than a garnish. Now, being Valentines day it was pretty crowded, and with social distancing, they needed to ask us to shift over one table so they could accomodate a larger group. Well, given the circumstances we understood completely, and had no issue moving, but they still comped us two glasses of champagne, which I consider a really classy gesture. Overall great experience. Amazing food and good service. Great ambiance for both indoor and outdoor dining. It is moderately priced, great for a date night or lunch with friends. For appetizers we ordered the Oxtail Croquettes and the Baked Oysters, our entres were the Short Rib Ravioli in a Truffle Cream Sauce and the White Radish Burger which comes with fries. The combination meat patty for the burger was so good and if you like truffle the ravioli and the croquettes are a must! For dessert we had the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding which was delightful. The food was great here! But, whew! The service needs some work. I arrived at 11am for my brunch reservation for Father's Day. I was seated but it took about an hour for our main course to come out which is a bit ridiculous. Luckily, it was a nice day so it was nice to be seated outside. Also, I wish there was more clarification about the lack of availability of brunch. I specifically made a brunch reservation only to get there and realize brunch was not being served. A family behind us got up and left because they were also expecting brunch. Again, food was great! But, the service needs to be streamlined better. This is my second time dining at the restaurant. The service is very professional and attentive. However there are still some lingering execution problems especially with the seafood. The calamari app was overfried and rubbery. Although the accompanying veg on my halibut entree was delicious, the fish itself lacked any seasoning and was overcooked and dry. Rookie mistakes especially at this price point. As a private chef myself, I am hopeful the relatively new kitchen team can improve the consistency of their dishes as the area desperately needs a place like this to survive. read more

We had a really great time at White Radish! Restaurant had great ambience, which can be tricky with outdoor seating. It definitely gave me some Upper West Side vibes. First look at the menu was also really good. They have a wide menu with a lot of options: sandwiches, pastas, steaks, even a raw bar! The Lemon Bitters mocktail and Lemonade were both fantastic -- I know they have the mocktails on the menu while they wait for their liquor license, but I hope they keep them post that, because we both loved them. I do wish they would say they have beer though. I saw another review with a picture of a beer, which we didn't know was available because it was not on the menu. We had the wings and the oxtail croquettes as our appetizers, both of which were delicious! The sauce on the wings had a great balance of spice and sweetness; the croquettes were well seasoned. For our meal, my boyfriend had the steak panini and I had the lobster roll. Steak panini was very good; steak was seasoned well. My lobster roll was ok -- had a bit too much mayo for my taste. I wish they would have let the lobster and avocado shine more. French fries with both dishes were good. Overall, I think it's a great addition to Forest Hills restaurants! I'm excited to go again, because it has such a wide menu that there are a lot of things I want to try. read more

Hospitality is excellent. Food is not. I have been to White Radish twice already, and have tried a range of apps, raw bar, mains, and dessert. I really want to like this new addition to the neighborhood, but the dishes are at best mediocre. The menu reads like it was well enough thought out (nothing innovative, but still interesting) but the execution is pretty weak across the board. Hope they pull through with excellent cocktails and tighten up control of their kitchen.
