He brilliantly worked with our large, arriving-at-different-times group, offering fun conversation to the youngsters and counsel to the indecisive. The mafadine pasta was a good pick adorned with springy components like pea leaves and a compelling Parmesan vibe. Maybe I like vegetables more than I thought? The steelhead carpaccio special was a stunner. Based on my 1.5 bites of monkfish I'd also endorse that. This may be more of a "DVD extra" but when I originally looked up the QB many of the top-ranked items were breakfasts and some were p-zza (reverse SEO). Based only on lower-left menu placement I would say don't go that route and that specials are a good bet. Again this is only based on 1.5 bites but the eggplant parm special had great sauce. Alex was our AMAZING server! He was so kind and patient, and offered to help my little nephew open a toy. He also talked to my little niece about her dim sum toy. I could tell he's a father!! The Queensboro might mistakenly be called a gastropub, but that would be doing it a disservice; it's a neighborhood 3rd space where community gets built, it's a place you can go from day-to-night (it functions as a sort of co-working space during the day, and hosts lively events many evenings of the week), and it's got truly excellent food and drink. I'd say there's nowhere quite like it in Jackson Heights, and I do feel really lucky that it's in the neighborhood. One of my favorite Queensboro events is the Endless Summer series they run in the warmer months, featuring Hawaiian drink and food specials (the chef is from Hawai'i!), with impressive homemade Spam in the musubi and nostalgic, fun, well-crafted tiki drinks that will knock you out! I really love the staff here and many of them have worked at the Queensboro for years; they're incredibly warm and treat everyone like a regular. I finally made it back to The Queensboro for dinner after having an exceptional brunch experience there a couple of years ago. I was with my husband, brother, and dog, and we reserved a table outside (we called beforehand to make sure it was okay to have our dog outside with us, and they were incredibly accommodating and kind). This place is such a neighborhood gem, and I can confidently say that if I lived a little bit closer, I would come here on a weekly basis. The food is so good, and everyone there is so welcoming and sweet. Honestly, the service was amazing from the minute we arrived until we left. They even brought a bowl of water out for our pup. In terms of food, the clam garlic bread was as decadent as I remembered, and paired with their delicious clam chowder, it was even better! Their clam chowder is easily the best I've had in Queens (or even Queens and Brooklyn combined). I also loved the halloumi mushroom skewers and their generously plump shrimp cocktail. My husband had the steak, which he said was extremely flavorful, tender, and perfectly cooked. My brother had the cheeseburger, which he was very happy with as well. I live in the neighborhood and I'm a regular there. I was visiting with my 3 year old, and with a friend and his 3 year old. They had a "father's day special," $30 fixed price, but also had a section listed as "kids' items." We get the "father's day special" (only option that day), and order two items from the kids' section for our kids. I ordered the fries and burger for my kid, listed at $14 from kids' section of the menu. my friend does the same. so 2 adults, 2 three year olds. bill comes back, $133, 4 father's day specials. We ask, um, it's just two adults, the kids got kids items, why are you charging us 4 fathers day specials? Server says "it's per seat." We emphasize that it's two 3 year olds who got kids' menu items, listed separately, with separate prices. The server says, and I quote "this is America, this is capitalism." I was stunned. The only critique on that is the fact that there aren't a ton of things on the menu, in my opinion I like a big menu and get to select what I'd like to eat but I respect the decision. They're so nice! They speak Spanish so do not worry, they allow dogs, and are always cautious of food allergies and will always make sure you are ok. This is in a wonderful neighborhood. Conveniently located not far from the Jackson Heights farmers' market (which would be my next stop), it's situated down a more quiet side street, making it a solid place to dine al fresco. Everyone can find something they'll like on this menu, and they cater to dietary restrictions and allergies as well. There's a decent amount of vegetarian offerings, too. On my last visit we split one of the waffle specials which was the right move, along with some burgers and a benedict special featuring a bagel topped with giant slabs of bacon. The greenery throughout the restaurant is a nice touch and I appreciate the hooks beneath the tables for purses and bags. That's just genius. Regarding their food, it almost lacks identity given all the randomness across the menu. Was it a ploy to showcase the borough's diverse dining scene or it was a series of random things that the chef / management simply liked / thought was trendy? From cheeseburgers to jerk chicken to rigatoni alla norma, it is a little confusing to be honest. While I can say their hanger steak is a thumbs up, as well as the tamarind beef stew, I can't really get behind the pizzas or szechuan bok choy. (#2) Then there is the brunch, which is I think the best bet for anyone looking to come here. There are all the usual suspects (pancakes, waffles, avocado toast, eggs benedict), some homage to locals (BEC, etc) and others (chilaquiles, "kim chee" + spam fried rice, eggs Norweigian, etc). Combined with one of their many cocktails, it can be a fun time overall. I also love that they showcase local breweries with their beers on tap.
