Home2 Suites by Hilton Grand Blanc Flint - Guest room

Many Home2 properties are starting to really show their age and this is certainly one of those. If…read moreyou can stay elsewhere (suite style), do it. The couch is ripped (clearly by a dog/cat) substantially on two sides; looks like it should be sitting on the side of the road as a trash pick up. Fridge is not functioning well so water melting from freezer into fridge constantly. Kitchen supplies depleted and really worn. Cleanliness is not the best thing here - (hairs both in the clean towels and in the bathrooms). Front desk staff doesn't seem professionally trained; they were polite but disinterested in any feedback. I travel for a living (as do most of my large company) and will not be recommending this one. You show up first night go to your room and there's a hotel party on the floor. People screaming, playing loud music, all while you and your kids just had their home burn down in front of their eyes. As the days turn into months, they have teams, weddings, a golf challenge and none of these people know that they just rented a hotel room that is in a hotel that is full of fire victims. Mean while the victims have to deal with parties, being harassed, encircled by potty parents who are "worried about their kids safety", because your in pajama pants outside one night. while in the mean time you are stuck here at liberty to the hotel. Watched a breakfast woman breath all over food, take a dirty towel wipe it all over her plastic gloves, then proceeded to touch the food. Tell the hotel management and they don't do anything because she is the niece of some other hotel manger. The next morning they purposely make your life harder by not having the one breakfast food you can eat due to a medical condition. They laugh at you while you walk to the counter looking for the one bit of food that you can stomach. They choose to make my life harder as a fire victim while they laughed about. Thinking it was funny to make someone's life harder. The place has bugs, they don't clean your room, even told here's the vacuum do it yourself. If your booking a party here know the hotel is full of fire victims that have to go to work the next day, that didn't ask to be there. Of course no one told you but now you know. I will never go back. From the breakfast lady taking a dirty towel in her hands and touching food and tongs, then trying to make you use the tongs she just breathed all over, or the uppity parents allowed to encircle you right after your house burned down or the bites I have all over my body from the disgusting room. I would steer clear from the place unless you have no other choice. The public has a choice, the fire victims don't.

My whole family and I were headed to the area…read morefor the weekend and, after searching for a reasonably priced place that included breakfast and a pool, we ultimately decided on Best Western Plus Flint Airport Inn. We arrived around 5:30 PM and check-in was a breeze. Our room felt a little small with the two queen-sized beds in it, but ultimately that's the sacrifice you make for having two beds. The room had both a fridge and a microwave and felt clean. My main complaint about the room was the bed I happened to be sleeping on, which was definitely slanted on one side. Outside of the room, we used the pool both nights. The pool area itself is massive, with a sloped wood ceiling and a pool, sauna, and hot tub. The pool isn't heated, which meant that it was a little cooler than I would have liked, but my twins absolutely loved it while my wife appreciated the hot tub. Breakfast in the morning was good, with the usual staples such as bagels, waffles, cereal, eggs, and a breakfast protein. While some of the choices were lacking, such as only having Cheerios for cereal, I did appreciate that they had real eggs and not powdered ones. Their coffee also comes from a machine where you can choose black coffee or something a little more fancy like a cappuccino, latte, or mocha. The bottom line for me is that I would stay here again in the future. The price was right, and my family especially enjoyed both the breakfast and the pool.

I typically book online, and I am able to check-in on the app. Interestingly, my digital key never seems to work here (never available on the app) so I always have to stop at the front-desk. The various persons working the front desk have been polite and helpful. After a quick ID verification, I have my physical keys and I am on my way. At a previous stay, there were some issues with things in the room such as the rubber seal around the refrigerator door being nearly completely torn off rendering the refrigerator practically useless. The front desk person offered to refrigerate things for me for the night as they were not able to send a replacement, and I didn't want to re-pack and move rooms. During my most recent stay, I think that I heard a dog barking in a room down the hall in the late evening, but I didn't bother to get up to confirm it. The hotel includes a laundry room - a washer and a dryer - on the 4th floor. Breakfast is included and generally offers a decent spread including hot and cold foods (see photos). There is an on-site bar/restaurant with a limited snack section, however, I've never ordered anything from there. For me the location, just-off of US-23 is perfect. There is usually plenty of parking in the lot and the building is accessible from the back with your room key. Conveniently nearby (walking distance) is the Meijer grocery, gas station, several different coffee shops (Biggby and Tim Horton's), Dollar Tree, etc. All of these offer great places to pick up snacks, drinks, etc. if you don't want to pay hotel prices. The rooms don't have a microwave but the one in the breakfast area is available to use 24-7. I find the rooms to be spacious and the beds to be comfortable. Overall, it serves my purposes and meets my requirements, so I'll likely continue staying here from time to time.

I was halfway into my seven hour solo drive when I realized my mistake, so I pulled over and began making calls, simply hoping to transfer my reservation to another Hyatt location. I spoke with five different people, including Diana, the manager, both by phone and in person. At one point, Diana told me, "Maybe this is happening for a reason" and "I could've sold your room to someone else," when I was actually crying. While I appreciated her attempt to offer perspective, what I really needed was help finding a reasonable solution. I also contacted Hyatt Corporate by email several times, but ultimately no one was willing to work with me. The focus remained on policy rather than customer service. I was uncomfortable with the idea of driving another two hours alone at night on unfamiliar roads, especially with extensive construction along the route. In the end, I made the difficult drive and stayed at the hotel for approximately five hours, at a cost of $296. What makes this especially disappointing is that I had just become a Hyatt member. After this experience, I have decided to cancel my membership. I have honestly never encountered customer service where there wasn't at least an effort to find a reasonable solution for a customer who had made an honest mistake. This experience was both surprising and deeply disappointing. There are plenty of other hotel chains to choose from, and, surprisingly, I have even found Hotwire to be more accommodating when it comes to changing a reservation after an honest mistake. I hope Hyatt will reconsider how situations like this are handled. Policies are important, but so is empathy, flexibility, and making customers feel that their business matters.

They also have a nice selection of snacks and microwavable if you don't want to go anywhere. The only problem was the people above us.
