I enjoy this bar very much, but the service is really bad. I have been there like 3 times and it get worst every time I go. It seems to me they need more help. I wast happy with the service and I am a really good tipper, when I was getting ready to leave the bartender followed me and said he wasnt happy with his tip ! I address the matter I waited 20 min for every drink I got. Then he states we i got busy please understand, so he got a 30.00 trip and the service was horrible. My Brother in law gave him more money cause he didnt want any problems .....will not be going back ;) I think its a great spot but service sucks!!! read more

I moved to N OC from uptown 3 years ago. It took a while to find my spot. It was worth the wait! WE is everything I was looking for. Welcoming staff, great drinks and the best food I've had in a "bar". The mussels are my favorite. Oh wait, the grilled cheese with tomato bisque are my favorite. Oh, could my favorite be the cucumber jalapeno chicken wings? Basically, it is unbelievable food! My daughter and son-in-law came down and raved! My son-in-law ordered the sliders and after my daughter tried a bite, she looked up and said "that's real meat, not bar fare!" Hello all! How do I begin. Do yourself a favor and don't bother stopping by this place for a drink. The service is horrible. When I mean horrible...there was three of us and we were 3 of the 6 patrons. We sat a table for 10 mins while the bartender flirted with girl at the window. Brought my parents who were visiting from out of town to Bishop Arts for a few drinks and food. Saw Whitehall and loved the look of it from outside and decided to go in and give it a try. From the moment we walked in we were unimpressed simply because of the service. We were greeted by a rude waitress who seemed like she couldn't handle the four tables she had. Took 15 minutes to get 3 bottled beers. Said she would be right back for food order which took another 10 minutes at which point we decided against ordering food as we couldn't handle dealing with our waitress for that long. I'm a big fan of the cocktails here. I've had the OC Shirley Temple and several off-the-menu beverages. If they're not too busy, they'll gladly make you a custom cocktail. The wine selection here is decent, but it's about the pour. They serve it in small decanters that come out to be more like two glasses than one. Always friendly service, and a great place to go on a date or out for a relaxed, yet classy night with the gals. We've had a few appetizers, but say we'll be back for more. I've been to Whitehall Exchange three times and the food has been consistently very good. Tried their flatbreads, awesome cheese board, and the amazing Korean Sliders. I was very impressed with their choice of wines and although they are not the least expensive place in town, they are certainly not the most expensive either. The atmosphere is very nice with TVs displaying the day's great sporting event, a perfect mix of music playing (not too loud) and very comfortable seating inside and out with inside/out bar seating, and outside tables and benches with umbrellas. Has a nice upscale neighborhood bar feel. I would highly recommend Whitehall to those who understand that the coolest and more upscale places are usually not the low price leaders. read more

Hands down the worst customer service experience I've ever had. After walking around the Arts District for a bit I decided to stop in for a drink. The bartender was HAMMERED. Besides me there was only one other couple in the place but despite his slight sway, I decided I didn't care & wanted to watch the Sox game. When he finally came 'round for my order after I'd made up my mind he sauntered off & couldn't find the Maker's Mark. My silent snickering didn't go unnoticed as the guy seated on the other side of the bar was laughing watching the guy & eventually got up to help the dude. He tried to pay for my drink after I dumbed my initial order down to a whiskey neat which was met with more confusion. I came over & asked him to get me whatever he could remember in an effort to relieve my honorary hero & maybe get one sixteenth the amount of drunk the bartender was. When I said I'd take anything he told us both that we needed to say something to his face.... alright bud, calm down. He didn't even swipe the poor guy's card so I tried to play it off & be nice but he began yelling belligerently, causing some poor girl from the back to come out from the back to see what was going. After he yelled at me to "MAKE UP MY GODDAMN MIND!" I was through. Nothing was said or done besides the teenage girl staring at him with no words. Just wow. This guy has to go. I've never experienced anything like this EVER. If I wasn't about to start having an anxiety attack over this guy losing his mind, I would've asked for something to change but I just got out of there as fast as possible. I'm sure it's usually a great place usually but I've never encountered a more unprofessional atmosphere. read more

No beers on tap, can beers were over-priced. We ordered the fish and chips, which reminded me of fish sticks from my elementary cafeteria. Anyone can take frozen fish and fries and deep-fry them. There was nothing fresh about our order. I did not find anything unique about this place. You'll pretty much pay for the location and atmosphere. Good Vibes every time I go, Great drinks and food. I recommend getting the Korean Sliders or Flat Bread best Items on the menu in my opinion. Live music on the weekends, Servers and bartenders are awesome, even the manger is cool always greeting us. I tried this place today with a friend and had never been before. The atmosphere was pleasant enough...nice outdoor area though it was probably a touch too cold for that so we sat inside. Our waiter guy was very nice and extremely attentive. We ordered oysters which he said he'd come in to help assist with last night because they had just come in. I was pleasantly surprised because even places that are specified as seafood places are often not as fresh and the oysters were large. I probably would have given it more stars if the quiche wasn't so tiny. It was ALRIGHT but smaller than La Madeleine and I dare say I like the chain's quiche better. They also had a $10 carafe of mimosa special for brunch time, so my recommendation? Split the fresh oysters with a friend ($12, 6 per person) and split the carafe. This is a place for a little bite and to load up on the drinks, but not the place for the brunch itself. My friend did say she enjoyed her Benedict, but I know the difference between the "oh it was pretty good" face and the silent chewing face of someone whose mind is lost in the deliciousness of their breakfast (like with the brisket Benedict at Smoke, for example). Service and food are both definitely better than Oddfellows, tho. Not really sure how that place got it's hipster cred, but that's a whole 'norther review... read more

There is a bartender named John who wears a hat and has a beard and let me tell you this guy knows how to take care of his customers. I came in without a clear choice of what I wanted and he first made a drink I liked from another place and Ben he gave me some stuff simply off of what I described. We came here on Saturday night to hang out since it was the least busy bar in the area. We walked up to the bar, and the bartender took our orders while he was on his phone. Okay, I get it, things get busy and there's only a few employees working, but still. We ordered the Salty Dog and a Moscow Mule. You couldn't taste anything but the overpowering tart grapefruit juice in the Salty Dog, so I returned it to the bar and asked for just a liquor and soda drink instead - I was charged for the more expensive drink though. The Moscow Mule did not taste anything like a Moscow Mule, and looked strange and was way too sweet. Overall, we paid $20 for two drinks that were undrinkable. We don't usually come here even though we're in the area, and we won't be back again. read more

I love this place. I really do. The patio is awesome to sit and relax and watch all the yuppies invade BA. The food is excellent. Everything I've had there has been delish. the eggs bededict for lunch, oysters(not me personally but tablemates raved), the grilled cheese and tomato bisque, the korean sliders and the flatbread. I swear I dream about it :). The servers are always friendly and the drinks are generous. Do yourself a favor and check it out when you get tired of waiting for a table at oddfellows or enos. So i came in Saturday night with some friends to the new spot in Bishop Arts called WhiteHall Exchange.. All the tables were taken so we headed for the bar, a spot was made for us which i thought was nice. The atmosphere was nice and the music good. After ordering a glass of wine we noticed the chefs specials written on the glass mirror behind the bar so we decided to start with their cheese board which featured a house made tomato yuzu and rosemary jam. it was beyond my expectations. After a few more glasses of wine we noticed everyone ordering the korean bbq sliders so we decided to split those and try the lobster roll. The sliders were amazing! It tasted like great korean street food with a very nice presentation and the lobster from the toasted brioche hogie was cooked perfectly and mayo delicious, which we were informed is also made in house. Will definitely be back for the wine and try more of the wonderfull and innovative food from the frequently rotating menu. read more
