My mom took a van with a transmission that wouldn't shift out of third in to Whitey. He sent it in to be rebuilt. Cost several grand. Van began doing the same thing within a week or so of the repair. Took it back to Whitey and he sat on it for almost three months. He doesn't answer the phone and has no voicemail. Mom had to drive to the shop at one point to check on the van, and noticed a flat tire that had developed while it was in Whitey's possession. She convinced him to fix it free of charge, since he had obviously caused it.
At this point I got involved on behalf of my mom. Had to drive to Hastings several times to urge him to finish the project because of the phone issue. His shop is an absolute disaster area, by the way. In the end, after about three months of sitting on the van, he told me a computer reset fixed the transmission problem. I drove the van and sure enough it shifted fine. Within a day of getting the van back a different tire went flat and we realized that instead of patching the hole (later found to be caused by a screw it had picked up), Whitey just swapped the wheels and aired the tire up. We knew this because the rims, one of which had a scratch, were swapped. Now, a week or so later, the transmission has the exact same "wont shift out of third" fault. Considering my options.
