i have interviewed about 5 surgeons. Whitsett is the most impressive and experienced. He saved me from having to get laseks because he does another procedure that acheives the same goal for astigmatism. How is it you can take my money, tell me to fast at 6 am, and plan for 1-1:3o surgery time. Then, tell me the day before surgery, I was moved to last in line for the day's surgery schedule without consulting with me first. All I asked for was if there was a cancellation to move me up in the schedule because I did not appreciate having to wait until evening to drink anything. Next thing I know, I get a call from doctor Whitsett around 8 am, the day of my surgery, telling me he is not going to do my surgery and is refunding my money without discussion, then he hung up on me. I made the effort to suggest a misunderstanding had taken place, but unfortunately, the tone of this angry man could not be overcome. He showed me a side of his character I did not know existed. No wonder they have poor reviews. They perform approximately 20 surgeries a day, I was told, and they moved me to last in line. What's wrong with this picture? Be cautious, people! read more

I am at my wits end with this office. The office cancelled my appointment that I scheduled 6 months in advance. Is unable to work me in for 2 additional months for the specialist I need to see (due to an existing condition). They are now telling me that my 10 year old son is no longer welcome to be seen because he is not 13 years old. He is an existing patient. The doctors are very competent, but it continues to be a struggle to get my family to all see physicians at the same eye doctor office. I escalate the issues to the office and nobody seems to care to help. read more

"Bad experience" On February 1, 2023 I visited the Katy TX office to get an estimate for the price of cataract surgery on both of my eyes. I gave them my insurance information and after analyzing all the data on the financial part, I received a call from Janet Ortega asking me to appear on February 17, 2023 to sign the acceptance documents for the procedure for the surgery. According to the document that I had to sign, it literally says that the co-insurance was covered 100% and that the patient's responsibility was $0. With all this information, the last thing I had to pay out of pocket was the amount of $3,600 in cash that corresponded to the payment for the lens package that according to them was not covered by insurance and is option #1: Enhanced Vision Package+istent with original price of $4000 for both eyes, but if paid in cash it would have a discount of $400. With the financial part already covered in its entirety, they gave me a surgery date for my first eye March 1, 2023 and my second eye March 08, 2023. So far, so good; After about a month my vision started to feel blurry, I went from appointment to appointment with different doctors from the same office, none of them gave me any relief and the last doctor who saw me, Dr. David C. Fu OD, told me that I had to ask for a appointment with an out-of-office doctor that he referred me to and what appointment he did not give me. Today September 7, 2024 after 18 months I am receiving an invoice for the amount of $3617.12 This seems to me to be highly irresponsible on the part of Whitsett Vision Group, authorizing a surgery and after a year and 6 months charging again. read more

They have awful, awful, awful customer service the doctor is never available to answer any questions I can't seem to get any response form anyone. Just save your money and go to people that care. read more

They apparently aren't very interested in doing basic, insurance-covered cataract surgery? The number I was given to make an appointment for measurement got me someone elses voicemail, and no call was returned. So I called the main number, the scheduler was not in her office, so I was told she would call me back shortly. Never did get a callback. I went elsewhere. me and my husband had a 8 and 9 am appt on 8-30-23, we live 1-1/2 hours away and had got into some traffic and I called to let them know we would be a few minutes late, they said no proble. We arrived in the front office at 8:18 and they said they couldn't see me because I was after the 15 min mark. we have waited 3 months to come to this appt. and then she asked if I could come back in the morning? heck no I can't I had major back surgery on 8-22-23 a week ago and you want me to drive back. I'm pissed so I said atleast see my husband since his appt is at 9 am mind you I was at 8am, so we went to sit down and the lady came over to us and said he was not on the Schedule. In 1998, Dr. Whitsett performed Lasik surgery on my eyes and was super pleased for decades. I had to come see him again..... due to high eye pressure on both eyes. I got a procedure back in September of 2023 for my degenerative eye condition. The surgeon was great, and the process went smoothly, as did the follow-up visits. Fast forward to now, and I called on 12/19 due to my insurance letting me know there was a discrepancy with my billing. I called the billing department with insurance on the phone and was greeted by Debbie in billing. As I explained the situation with the insurance on the phone while speaking with Debbie in billing, she quickly deflected and stated she couldn't answer our question due to her manager not being present. I asked Debbie if the billing supervisor was the only one to speak with regarding the critical matter. Debbie responded, "You can't wait until tomorrow"? I then responded and said, "No, I can't." Debbie then placed the insurance agent and me on a long hold to come back and state that she spoke with the operations manager, but no one could answer the question until 12/20. At 8 AM on 12/20, Shellie, the billing manager, called and was extremely hostile and stated that I was not owed a refund because I signed a waiver. I needed clarification on the approach and the tone, and I asked for a breakdown of the charges to ensure everything was in place. As I started explaining the background of the costs, Shellie interrupted me and stated, "If you have all the answers, why am I on the phone?". I then let the billing manager, Shellie, know that her speaking to me that way would not be accepted and asked for a manager. Shellie proceeded to tell me that "she heard that I yelled at everyone that I spoke to yesterday." I informed her that I felt as if she was attacking my character and painting an angry black woman picture because my voice was not raised. I let her know that I did know how to conduct myself in conversation. I once again asked for the manager's name, and Shellie gave me the wrong number and threatened to hang up the phone in my face too. I called the number she provided and received a rude answer from the front desk staff. I asked to speak with Dave, and Shahliq came to the line and said she was a manager. I explained the situation. She then said, "If that occurred, then it shouldn't have." I let her know there are no "ifs" about the situation because that is what happened. She took my information and said she would call me back in half an hour. Two hours passed, and I have not received communication from Shaliq. I called back to get placed on another 20-minute hold and speak with the operations manager, Monica. I told Monica who I was, and she immediately told me, " I am not due for a refund," when she came on the phone. As I told the previous representative, I sought an understanding and itemized receipt with a breakdown of all the charges. I then stated that my problem was with the billing manager, Shellie, and the hostile, racist environment that she created during a simple follow-up conversation. I expressed my discomfort about attending the practice. Monica, the Operations Manager, stated that she has been friends with Shellie, Debbie, and Shahliq for a long time and hopes they aren't racist. I told her that I didn't feel comfortable with her having a conversation to ensure that this wouldn't happen again because of the close nature of their relationship. She stated that there was nothing that she could do about that, and I informed her that I would be filing a complaint. read more

Went in for my appointment on 7/21 and it went really well but that's where it stopped. Upon leaving I was asked by the surgery counselor to select a surgery type of the 2 options given and call back and set up an appointment to come in and fill out the paperwork. 4 calls, three messages left and still have not heard back from them. Not returning phone calls lacks professionalism if you ask me. They supposedly want my business but obviously not very bad read more

Beware of a price switcharoo if you self-pay. I was told my initial office visit was going to be $169. When I checked out, they told me I owed $295. A little ticked off to say the least. Dr. Whitsett was helpful though. Just wish my expectation had been set properly. read more

I was referred to Dr Woon from Dr McKey both at Whitsett Vision group. They are great. I had double vision from a bout with shingles in my forehead. Dr Woon explained the reason why and was very encouraging and made me feel like getting this from shingles was not a weird thing. She is very knowledgeable and Dr McKey was very kind and understanding as well. I am very thankful for their advice and positive attitude. read more

I was referred to Dr. Whitsett after learning that I was not a candidate for LASIK due to my extreme nearsightedness. From my first appointment for a consultation through my two surgeries and follow ups, I have been treated with the utmost care from every member of the staff at both locations. I went from being legally blind to perfect eyesight and I could NOT be happier!!! I drive two hours to see this staff and I have ZERO regrets and would do it all again, over and over. read more

After filling out the forms online, I get a call from them stating that they can't even attempt to see me until June. Now, I realize that a good doctor may have a wait time, but do NOT use ZocDoc if you can't hold up your end of the bargain! read more

Dr Woon is extraordinary! Brilliant, down to earth and personable! She did my biopsy today and it's going to be impossible to see the scar. It was a very good experience. No swelling, minor pain. She was on time and so efficient and most importantly, so nice! The office visit with her was also fantastic! On time and efficient. She takes her time and she talks as well as listens to you. I had my first visit a few months ago and it went relatively well. The techs do most of the up front testing and the doc comes in for a couple of minutes. After leaving the office, I discovered that I forgot to get a copy of my glasses prescription. So far I have called the office 4 times on 4 different days and left messages for the technicians as they instruct you to and so far no call back in the 24 hour time frame they promise for a call back. This place really lacks any customer service. When you call them, they can't wait to transfer you to someone else. Problem resolved!! I received a response this morning from the Clinic Director and he quickly sent me my script and promises to fix the problem. Now, that's great customer service. read more

I saw Dr Woon for a routine eye appt. I had not been to the Eye dr in 20 + years. Dr Woon was so nice and professional and even answered questions regarding bringing my children in for screenings. I got right in with No wait time which was a relief. Only thing I did not like was having to pay an extra $70 I believe above my copay for one part of the eye exam which is a standard part of the eye exam test but they said the insurance doesn't cover it. I felt as though I got stuck paying or I wouldn't have a complete exam. I think everything should be included. I will go back if need services again. read more

I started as a patient here in September 2015 when I thought I had cataracts and wanted only the best to remove them. My journey with Dr. Jesse McKey and the great staff here at the Kingsland office at the Whitsett group has been wonderful and I highly recommend them. As everyone knows, sight is incredibly important. They have the most current methods here, and recovery is quick and easy. I should probably say I am a young senior citizen. In my many visits, I only waited longer than ten minutes ONCE when Dr. McKey had an emergency surgery. I have met and been seen by each of the doctors in the practice now because they really work with you on appointments, and each is personable and very competent. You won't be disappointed. read more

I would have given 5 stars considering the service provided by our doctor in the Katy office; however, 3 stars assigned due to lack of response from from the business office. My husband & I both had our first visit here on 5/14. At check out we were asked to pay $298.08 for services. Two weeks later, our claims were processed by our carrier (Anthem BCBS); our co-pay portion was only $52,62 because the doctor is "in the network." I called the office inquiring credit and had to leave a message because I went directly to voice mail. I left a detailed message but no one called back within 24 hours as promised. 5 months later, I called Anthem and a Customer Service Representative offered to call the office for me. I was later informed that we would get a refund for the difference in 10 days. Why does it take 5 months for my statement to be reconciled and a refund check to be issued. Had I not called, what would happen to the portion that they owe us? read more
