The shop that only does ... just enough. Brought my '46 flathead to them for a rebuild and refresh. They did the bare minimum. They replaced a few head studs, but not all (never advised that a few broke on disassembly). They didn't flush the block. The heads leaked from day 1. I can go on and on. Maybe they're ok for some basic machine work. I'd never take anything back to them again. Called them to discuss and they were not willing to make any accommodations or even offer an apology. Joke. This guy is shady and a joke. For all the time and money I put into this engine and gaskets because of his lack of quality work and defective gaskets. My car is still not finished. It still leak from rear main seal. Every seal and most of the gaskets he sold me failed. He only sent me a 102 dollar check which I don't plan on cashing. I would rather sue him. Do yourself a favor if you have read this far. Don't use Wholesale Automotive Machine. He is a crook and only makes excuses for his mistakes. I don't know how he got so old looking. I'm surprised no one has rated these guys yet!! I worked with Dave and his customer service skills are beyond excellent. I had asked to be emailed over receiving phone calls, and I got an daily update on my requested services. There was not a day or item that I was wondering about. These guys fight for your business and do a good job representing themselves and their work. If (and more like, when) I need more engine work done, I know exactly who to go to. NOTES: I had my block decked/cleaned/magnafux, and my head decked/cleaned/magnaflux/and complete valve job. My crank needed work too and their in-house techs did it all within fair price!!! My Dads mechanic sent Dodge 4.7 heads to them for full valve job, and he thought, new valve seats. Mechanic wanted the best job done. Plus, these heads are notorious for dropping seats which any skilled machinist/mechanic would know this. Now, only 9 months later, less than 5,000 miles, head drops a seat, and damages piston. $950 down the drain to start. WAM refused to do anything. Nothing. So, I take heads to a skilled machine shop in Santee. Not only were the valve seats not replaced, but the one that dropped, you see where WAM peened it half azz. All new seats, redo WAMs work is $750. Dads rental car 3 weeks probably $600. Mechanics labor to R&R heads undetermined. Costs are adding up quickly due to WAMs shoddy work. Will file complaint with BAR, then small claims. WAM could have done the right thing and fixed in house for low cost but again, refused to do anything. Dads mechanic (long time friend of mine) has stopped sending work to WAM, and I'm passing the word on to my extensive list of friends in the industry of this experience. read more

WAM rebuilt a 390 for my 1970 F250. I started driving it in late October 2016. The engine lost compression in the sixth cylinder in May 2018. I drove it about 5,000 miles during that time. It also has water in the oil. When I called them about it they said that the one year warranty is expired. They would not fix it. My mechanic was working on another car who's engine was rebuilt by WAM. That engine also needed to be redone. I have a new mechanic and he has had bad experiences with WAM and so has the guy who rebuilds engines for him. My old mechanic has used WAM many times and says that they used to be good, but now some employees have changed and their work is no good any more. My new mechanic would not use them either. read more

I have been using Wholesale Auto Machine shop for over 35 years. All the way back to their University location. Jerry and his machine shop Tech's have always done outstanding work. Extremely knowagable & all at a reasonable price. I'm a Toyota guy and no machine shop in San Diego County has more experience on these motors then wholesale auto machine AKA "WAM". The rare times that there was a problem wholesale auto machine took care of it fast. That's huge if you're in the middle of a big job. Not only did they fix the problem but they got it done ASAP. These guys do good work , BUT they tack on extra fees AFTER you get the first price estimate ! Like 20.00 dollars because ,(there words) the balancing was hard to do !!!! First of all let me say that I try to never complain ever. but I feel that I must write this review to warn others. Their machine work was Ok but their customer service is atrocious. Change of employees other employees were rude and grumpy. if you don't like working there just find yourself another job. I had to go back 4 times. I gave them a list of what I wanted done and when I got there to pick everything up certain things were not done at all. They acted like my time was worth nothing. They gave 0 fks. they kept adding on charges for stupid little things and the bill came out too much more than what they quoted. take my advice and find another machine shop. I would only go to these guys again if they were the last machine shop in San Diego. read more

If I could give 10-stars I would. They rebuilt my 292 Y-Block back in July of 2017. Their delivery service was fast and efficient and they showed up on time for pickup and delivery. The major rebuild was quick and I had the engine back within a week and within budget. WAM also called me when there were questions they had or to clarify any issues during the rebuild process. Excellent communication! They even cleaned, fixed and repaired the vintage intake manifold I brought in without charging me extra. Here is where their service shines, after the rebuild was complete, I had a HUGE issue with the rear main seal leaking. It leaked like a sieve and I was really bummed. Jerry was extremely understanding and within three days or so he had arranged a shop close to WAM to let me bring the truck in to have the seal replaced. Seal was replaced within two days and I was finally on the road. Engine has over 1,000 miles on it now. It starts on the first crank, runs flawless and makes great HPs. I have had NO other issues whatsoever with the engine. WAM backs their warranty with no questions asked and I could ask absolutely nothing more. My hats off to WAM and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. read more
