Went alone to the theater when it open to buy a single ticket and it was $135. I ended up doing the lottery which is kind of weird. You write your name on an index card and the guy just sticks it in his hoodie. It was almost as if they wanted a diverse crowd of people of all different ages and nationalities. As I was waiting for them to announce the winners a young man came up to me and asked if I wanted to pick each other if we won in the lottery since we were singles. He ended up getting picked!!!!!!! It was the most amazing three hours of my entire life. Jessica Vosk (the green witch) is from a different world her voice is life-changing. I wish I could go to this every day. A different take on the classic story, with engrossing new songs (although I was sad not to hear any of the classics, but new is good, still), great effects, and was only semi-distracted at one time in the entire show. Didn't have the original cast, but the current cast (and the understudy for Ga'linda) did an admirable job. A dazzling set, though sometimes the colors of the uniforms can overwhelm as they're all roughly the same green in Oz... but a lovely touch with the lighting. The jokes were funny, and the caricatures were interesting, albeit almost overdone (but enough that made it funny, not overmuch the first time). Wow! Wow! Wow! This was a great production is a spectacular theater. I was in rowX and had absolutely no problems with seeing EVERYTHING. I had my binoculars with me but only used them to see the detail of the clothing every now and again. I would actually go back and see this play again - I went out to the restroom at the wrong time (so my sister tells me). I missed what she said was her favorite part of the play "Gravity". This was my birthday weekend (2/2) so my sister went all out. She even purchased the program for me (a bit expensive). I purchased the wicked socks and was sad to learn that I spent so much for a pair of mis-matched socks. The concession stand lady misled me when I was trying to decide what pair to get and she told me "you get both". I didn't check my bag until we were long gone from the theater. My sister told me that she understood what the concession stand lady was saying and that's why she didn't get the MISMATCHED pair of socks. Anyone who knows me knows that I LOOOOOOVE socks - especially "different looking" ones. Needless to say, we spent over $100 in the lobby BEFORE even viewing the show. For Valentine's Day I wanted to write a review about something that I am head over heels in love with. Wicked is my absolute favourite broadway show. It's the show that made me fall in love with broadways. It was the first time in my adult life that I was visiting NYC, so of course I had to see a broadway show. The show was absolutely magical. I'm a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz, so another reason why Wicked was a must for me. I'm always so impressed with theatre actors - they are so, so, so talented. The show I went to, Christine Dwyer starred as Elphaba and Jenni Barber starred as Glinda, and they were both phenomenal. I've never heard a voice as amazing as Christine Dwyer's. Her range is insane. The songs in the show are beautiful, and to this day I still listen to the Wicked soundtrack. Ugh, I'm getting chills just thinking about "Defying Gravity". Tickets, like most shows are a bit on the pricier end. But, I think they are a great bang for your buck. I'm all about spending money on experiences though. They do a ticket lottery that you can enter in the day of and they let you know up to 2.5 hours before the show. You can get orchestra seats for about $20 or $30. Great deal if you have the patience and flexibility to wait around. You won't regret going to Wicked. You'll be #changedforgood. read more

This was actually a great play! I came here finally after hearing from a friend how great the play was. Initially, I was somewhat concerned because I ordered tickets at the last minute so after my purchase, my tickets said "partial view". However, once I actually sat in my seat, I was closer to the stage then I imagined with a very good view. The play was very good; I was able to gain a much different perspective of the "Wicked Witch Of the West" then I had as a child. The dancing, singing, everything was spot on! The seats were very comfortable, and although I didn't purchase any drinks or clothing, there were plenty of vendors in the lobby selling paraphernalia and a nice bar. TL:DR- great show, a bit long and tedious in parts, but overall worthwhile. J treated me to tickets since it seems like all we do when we go out is eat. We sat row D, centre orchestra, almost dead center. Great seats, in case you're looking for suggestions. Seats are roomy for theater seats and the theater itself is large. Entry to shows is normally a pain in the butt, but, this was actually very smooth. Large waiting area, under cover, multiple points of entry. They do check bags as a measure of security but it consisted of someone poking the interior lightly with a stick. Being ushered to one's seat appeared to be a well oiled machine. Production itself was great - tons of singing talent, the costumes are beautifully made, and the storyline is charming. Some parts seemed overwrought and got a bit... long. I would say they could do some editing but this format seems to have served them well for how many years now? Oh, and for the people who don't think rules apply to you - taking pictures during the performance is distracting and obnoxious to those around you. You are holding up a brightly lit screen in a dim theater. Think about it. And knock it off. read more

One of my favorite musicals on Broadway! 1. The Writing: A -- it's such a great story about friendship and love and power and doing what's right, etc. etc. And it melds so so well with The Wizard of Oz story. It functions as an incredible parallel story of a parallel universe that helps explain and give more dimension to the characters in The Wizard of Oz. 2. The Music: B -- The songs are also fantastic! I legitimately like all of them (with the exception of those of The Wizard). And a fundamental thing with songs is that it links up well with the scenes and the story line. Even now when I listen to the soundtrack, you enjoy the songs because you remember the scene, the choreography. Each song is not there because it's pretty; it serves a purpose! I docked a point because there are some of them are something baaaaaad. 3. The Pacing: A -- Great pacing! Another pet peeve I have is when musicals load up one half with all of the action and great songs and the other half is either lead-in or denouement and doesn't provide consistent entertainment. If anything, for this show, I don't have a favorite half and my favorite scenes are evenly dispersed! I've been twice with two different casts and both were fantastic! It really says a lot about a musical production when despite the change in cast (that brought a slightly different flavor), you still have quality control in people's enjoyment of the show! I've always wanted to watch the performance of Wicked, so presently being at the heart of NYC I was given the opportunity to attend it, plus, it was literally a block away from where I stayed. I was super hyped and excited just like every other event that I was able to attend while in NY, but watching Wicked's performance was the highlight of my NY trip. It was impressive and more than I had ever anticipated. The performance was fantastical with a phenomenally commendable cast! No spoiler, but I did get the feels and shedded a few tears. I was searching for a photo on my phone and realized, that I forget to review Wicked!!!! Oh to my goodness!!! I went to see the musical nearly a month and a half ago. I can not stress enough how outstanding this Broadway musical is. I have been to plenty of musicals & Broadway shows in my lifetime, and I absolutely believe this has become my top three favorite, dare I say perhaps almost number one. The price the of tickets are not cheap by any means. However, nor is the experience, and indeed it is an experience. You are transported onto the third side of the Wizard of OZ's story. You know how they say there are always 3 sides to a story & the 3rd is that of being the "truth". Very clever story telling and you will be wowed by performance & actors. I do not believe there are any bad seats in the house but you will absolutely pay anywhere between $120.00-$400.00 a seat, depending on the level. I think you may find a discount online but I am unsure. The stage, costumes, orchestra etc... perfection. Wicked is an experience that you at least once, in a life must have for yourself. From a male's point of view, wicked is a vey good show for women and children. The story is easy to follow . The singing, musical arrangement, scenery and the props are very good. The acting is alive with plenty of pop cultural references to add an element of entertainment. The show focuses on two girl friends and a sister all seeking love, fame, acceptance, or to do the right thing. It ties into the events of the Wizard Of Oz movie. Great musical with a spin on an old story. Once you think you know the story of OZ, then comes WICKED. It was fabulous! I saw it twice. I would have never thought of Gilda ( the good witch) being a ditzy blonde. And Elphaba (the wicked witch) being so educated. This musical has it own spin on how the monkeys, tin man, scarecrow and lion came to originate and this story line coincided perfectly with the age old version of The Wizard Of OZ. When you come to the show, you should stay focused and alert as to not miss out on the subtle references to the similarities. Also, the first performance I saw in June 2017, Madame Morrible was played by Sheryl Lee Ralph who also played in Dream Girls and that was an unexpected treat (especially since I did not see her referenced in either of my playbills from June or September 2017). I am no Broadway Show expert, Wicked was only the 2nd show I've seen; so perhaps I don't have much to compare it to. I chose Wicked because of the reviews and all the hype around it. (I personally wasn't very excited about the storyline I'd heard about) I tried to read the book years ago and just couldn't get into it. So to say my expectations were balanced would be fair - I knew Broadway would be awesome, but wasn't sure I'd even like the plot. This may be why I absolutely LOVED this show! I don't go to shows often, so when I do, it's important to me that we have good seats, and boy did we! We were 5 rows from the stage on the left aisle, see pictures. These seats were $135 ea. I would pay it again tomorrow and go see this show again. I've seen some review that are very critical of the difference between the book and the show, or the original Wicked Witch and her portrayal in this version. None of which had any bearing on how much I enjoyed the show or the plot. If you are a hardcore WOO historian, then Wicked in general is probably not for you. C'mon people! Isn't it fun to color outside the lines sometimes! Don't hold this show to who the witch was in the original WOO portrayal, and don't look for it to be exactly like the book, and you'll enjoy this show. The plot didn't leave me on the edge of my seat, or really even have me connect with the characters, but I left the show feeling entertained and happy I didn't miss it. read more

I have seen Wicked both in NY on several occasions, Chicago when it played there and in my own city when it is on the Broadway series. On this particular show I didn't care for some of the actors in certain roles but that's true of any show. The main thing is that the complete show is performed and it gets easier to follow along each time I see it. There's always something I always miss and wonder how did I miss that line or scene? The actress playing Glinda was excellent along with Madame Morrible who was played by Judy Kaye-Tony actress who won in Phantom of the Opera when it opened on Broadway years ago. I remember seeing her in that production and I knew she would be outstanding. What impressed me was how they were able to have the winged monkeys fly over the auditorium and the personal flair each actor added to their character. The former cannot be done on a touring production but really brought delight. I have learned that it is the show, not necessarily the cast that makes the production worthwhile. The story line is good where you learn things aren't always as they appear to be and people who are good can be wicked at heart and vice versa. The musical numbers are top notch and having the cast album at home enables me to listen to it whenever I want to. Wicked is presented at the Gershwin theater which is one of the largest theaters in NY and home to Broadway's hall of fame. This theater had been reviewed previously by me and if for nothing else it is worth a visit to this theater. Also on displayed is the original costume worn by Elphaba which might have been Idina Menzel's. They offer a behind the scenes tour sold separately where you learn a little of the "magic" that goes into producing a musical of this magnitude. Our seats were in the first balcony which stands pretty high so bring binoculars if you want to see the actors up close. Escalators are provided for your convenience which I have not found in the other theaters and there are rest rooms on each floor. Since there is a fire breathing dragon and other loud effects please use discretion when bringing small children to see it. I may not always catch Wicked on Broadway but it is at least worth seeing there from time to time. read more

Wow!!! Honestly lived up to the hyope and beyond. Got the tickets during Broadway Week (Buy 1 Get 1). I got 2 side front orchestra tickets for $170ish. Theatre is at 51st and 8th. I do like being up a little further from the craziness of time square. I do like to take photos and did inquire about their policy. You can technically bring whatever you want, professional camera included, as long as you don't record during the performance. I took a bunch of pics before the show and during intermission. The show itself was wonderful. The story is great and the actors were wonderful. I have not read the books before seeing the play nd I liked how they incorporated various aspects of "The Wizard of Oz" into the play. I highly recommend this play to any nd everyone. read more

I've seen Wicked twice and both times were great fun. Seeing a Broadway musical should be an experience, and Wicked definitely delivers. The sets were great - lots of special effects which really added to the show. The music was definitely the best part for me - they're catchy numbers that stay in your head for weeks but you don't mind because it's awesome. Defying Gravity, the anthem of the musical was definitely my favorite song (cliche, I know ;-). I read the book too, and while they differ considerably, I don't think one is superior to the other. The musical focuses more on the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda, while the book is focused more on Elphaba's life (with huge chunks of it not having Glinda at all). The book is also darker and more political. You don't need to read the book to appreciate the musical (or vice versa), but it's interesting to get differing looks of Wicked. Some funny moments, some dramatic moments, and some touching moments - all wrapped up with a big green bow. It's definitely worth it to see Wicked. read more

Wicked has a cult following. Here's a breakdown from an outsider: The storyline and play are great and very entertaining to both adults and children. The music is typical Broadway music, nothing too contemporary like Hamilton or soulful like The Color Purple, but it works for what they are doing here. No celebrity cast is featured currently, which is very different from almost any other show on Broadway, where Hollywood celebs are found throughout the plays. This somehow works well for Wicked and is not even noticed due to the quality of the overall play. Also Wicked is drawing in a packed house, so there's really not a need for a high profile celeb. The costumes are amazing. The choreography was great and the sets were probably the most elaborate that we have seen on Broadway. It ranks with the glitz and glamour that you often find in Vegas. As compared to Broadway, Wicked fits in among the Vegas group. By far the Gershwin theatre has to be one of the largest, if not the largest, theatre on Broadway. It is huge. For the people claiming that there's not a bad seat in the house, that simply can't be true. If you're sitting in orchestra, probably not or maybe front row, center mezzanine, but otherwise due to the size of this theatre, bad seats can certainly be had here. Secondly, unless you are lucky enough to score student discount tickets which sell out very quickly or if you're name is drawn from the daily lotto, expect to pay full price. TKTS does not do discounts on Wicked. Wicked is okay. Probably better for families than couples, although most of audience were comprised of adults. I personally wouldn't recommend it to my friends or family, but again it's a solid choice if it's your cup of tea. read more

Whether you love Wicked or just like it, take time during intermission to get one of the green Ozmopolitan cocktails or red Glozmopolitan cocktails in souvenir sippy cups for a hit of alcohol before the second half. This show has been around since 2003 so obviously it holds a lot of appeal for many people. I've seen it a few times and it's still pretty good. The songs are good and there are a few memorable ones ("Defying Gravity" for example) and each cast I've seen has been highly skilled. I think at 2 hours and 45 minutes running time, there is a lot that could be condensed, especially during the first act. But the second act picks up a bit and keeps your attention. I admit, I dozed off during the first act. I would say if you've seen the show a few times, it may seem a bit tired in places but all you have to do is look on the faces of the people seeing it for the first time and you can understand the magic that happens. If you can get discount tickets, this is definitely a show to see. At full price, I'd be a little more choosy. Broadway Week tickets for great seats in the orchestra for the win! Good show, maybe way overhyped, but still one to see as a pure Broadway production spectacle. The cast were fine, along with some nifty songs and funny moments, and the actress portraying Wicked Witch Elpahaba ( Rachel Tucker ) was solid in the role since she came from London's West End where she was the longest consecutive running Elphaba. Plus, the Gershwin Theater is a great spot for this production. Roomy, great AC, and a lot of history to look at in the lobby and hallways. The stage set, costumes, and artwork for the show is terrific. Basically, Glinda is an annoying self absorbed "Mean Girl" with no real talent or power other than her looks, Elphaba is the outcast "Nerdy Girl" who yearns for love and to be accepted but hidden inside has all the talent and power, her sister is a handicapped brat, her father is a douche, the Wizard is just a shifty politician which little ethics and no powers, and Madam Morrible is a power hungry opportunist using the Wizard to stay in control over the townfolk. Yes, it's pretty much the script for every teen flick and TV show we have seen over and over. Glad that we got to finally see this after all these years, but once was enough. No need to see it again. Again, it's way overhyped and not as good as I thought it would be. Some parts were kind of boring and the writing was on the simplistic side. Fantastic show!! I have been wanting to see Wicked for quiet some time now and I am so happy that I did. This show was amazing and I loved every minute of it. We got tickets for Center stage Row 2. I was not sure if these seats were going to be too close to the stage but the way the Gershwin Theatre is set up even the front row would not be too close. The actors did a superb job. The singing & dancing was fantastic. The costumes and props were wonderful. It was just an overall great show. The storyline was really nice and a great twist on the Wizard of Oz theme. I was surprised at how comical it was at times on top of the theatrical drama. The script is a bit mature at times so any extremely young child may not get it but the performance can be enjoyed by everyone. I highly recommend everyone see Wicked! BTW as far as drinks there is a bar. I ordered a "glass of wine" for $11 bucks which comes in the Wicked souvenir cup. I thought this was a steal because I figured it would have been about 20 bucks. The catch is that she only filled up 2/3 of the cup, which I thought was ridiculous. I was hoping for at least half of the cup to be filled being that it was only a standard 8 ounce cup. Her only complaint is that you didn't see Dorothy just heard her and because of that she went as Dorothy for Halloween this year. :) I would go back and see this again and recommend it for anyone. It's a great first time broadway experience and a wonderful show for seasoned theater goers. We have no complaints at all. Even the service (ushers, etc) were wonderful. The lines for libations, snacks and souvenirs were even tolerable. See you again the next time we are in the Big Apple. Thanks for an amazing family experience. read more
