Contracted this company to install a simple fireplace insert for a client after she bought her home in the mountains. Paid $3000 and 4 months later she is still waiting for the fireplace to be installed. They have rescheduled 3 times. Mike, the main technician there, is the absolute worst and is very rude. Not helpful AT ALL if you ask him about the products or scope of work, he treats you as if you are dumb. Secretary that works in the office is absolutely clueless. Such a strange experience with Wicks. I called a few weeks ago to set up an appointment for later in the week. I was told that they would reach out on that Friday, the day of the appointment, to confirm due to weather. Friday came and I heard nothing. Later in the day, I called and left a message that I was expecting the call, but heard nothing back. 2 weeks later, I got a call from Wicks saying they received a call for service. I explained it was two weeks ago, but did not go into details. I schedule another appointment for the following Friday. Again, Friday came and no word from Wicks. In the early afternoon, I called them. They took my info, ask if I would be home for the rest of the day, told me they would contact a technician and get back to me ASAP. It is Saturday now and I have heard nothing. It is as if they just don't want the business. Such odd customer service. read more

Like a previous review has mentioned, my landlord has also decided to do business with these guys and unknowingly they showed up at my house today to take care of a disconnected wire for my heater. No mention from either party unfortunately before they popped up at my house. They got out of their work van, looked in through my kitchen window and smiled at me. I was feeding my son lunch when they decided to stand there and watch for the few seconds it took my to get up and go to the door. I opened the door and they did NOT have any customer service skills whatsoever. No mention of their names, the company they worked for or why they were even at my house. I thought this was a mistake at first of them being at my property until an older white man said "here for the heater". I got a weird vibe from him. He walked in with a Hispanic man, looked around my home and walked back to the van and talked on his phone for the whole 2 minutes they were here. the Hispanic man said absolutely nothing from start to finish. I had to ASK HIM what was wrong exactly with my heater and if it happened to just be a disconnected wire like it appeared. There was no checking to make sure it was on and working properly, instead telling me how I should have my home set up and where I need to put things. Excuse me? They threw a business card on my kitchen table and left without saying a word. Too bad i only rent and it's the landlords job to get housing things fixed and taken care of. Too bad I cannot leave 0 stars. Otherwise I would. I recieved a bogus invoice today from Mike for $30 since I asked them for a quote. I received the quote and invoice in two seperate emails today after being told I would receive the quote over a week ago. Needless to say I have already hired someone else. Plus the other three contactors quotes did not include a bogus and unmentioned evaluation fee. When I called to dispute the invoice Mike threw a tantrum and ended up hanging up on me 3 times. His last hang up was proceded by " I will put a lien on your house!" Thats right, he threatened to spend $25 to recover $30 which I never knew about. At no point did I lose my temper or resort to name calling but I cannot say the same for Mike. I would suggest hiring literally anyone else to do your HVAC work. Im not even going to go into the details of the amateur hour evaluation I recieve and the fact that the Quote was missing specific items that were requested. read more

A previous remodeling job on our home's fireplace left exposed plywood edges inside the fire box. In addition, the old custom brick spark arrestor had loose bricks and distorted screenwork. We consulted some other contractors in the area, who recommended corrective work amounting to thousands of dollars, including rebuilding the masonry on the fireplace face, and demolishing the top of the chimney to be replaced with a custom made metal spark arrestor. Mike offered some simple solutions that were effective and cost a fraction of the other estimates. In addition, he helped locate the control valve for the gas log, which had been buried beneath carpeting. Our fireplace and chimney are now restored and effective. read more

If you make an appointment, assuming someone actually picks up their phone or calls you back, be prepared to have them either not show up or show up at random times; apparently someone has not given them a time piece or calendar. Currently I have to give Mike and his team 5 stars. He showed up exactly when he said he would to inspect a floor heater that is older than God and has not worked in years. I told him I needed it fixed or replaced. A replacement would have been more $ in their pocket but after a thorough and professional inspection under and around the house to see the entire unit, he said it can be fixed! Mike came out and took a look at my heating unit. Said that the circuit board needed to be replaced. He said that he would call me with a quote within the next couple of days (I rent my house) Never received a call. He took it upon himself to come and fix the unit when I wasn't home (which I do appreciate) but then two days later I'm getting phone calls after phone call to collect payment when I had NO idea that it had even been fixed. He did do great work but Mike...your customer service skills are absolutely horrible. Phone call after phone call, leaving rude voicemails where he clearly loses his temper then proceeds to come to my house while I'm out of town and harassed the teen girl who was at my home watching my animals, trying to collect money from her! So upset with this company, they came over on Friday for an estimate which cost $30 the guy broke my gas valve but did not tell me so all weekend I could smell Gas leaking, finally came back on Monday fixed (so I thought) the valve that they broke, charged an additional $130 Only to find out when I hired someone else to help that they didn't replace the valve with the right part so now I'm having to pay someone else to fix the valve that they broke. I bought a fixer house in Surgarloaf that had a back to back wall heater that was not in working order. I knew that and called around for prices. Mark gave me a great price and did the work quickly without any hassle. I even had him install a T-Stat that I can adjust before heading up the hill. The work was done professionally when I was not even there (I have 5 Blink cameras so I saw what went on). He will be putting in a new Lopi wood burning fireplace insert next. Wick's bailed us out when a flakey vendor did not show up and caused a delay to our roofing job. We needed to move our chimney and hook up an newer wood stove that replaced an older single walled stove. Although they were one part short on the installation day, Mike came over on his day off to finish the job and make sure we had a fire for our guests the following weekend. Fast, friendly service. Everyone at Wick's has been awesome! From my first contact with Mike, to my inspection with Raul, to phone calls with the office staff...They are reliable, honest, friendly and knowledgeable. They could have really ripped me off as I had something completely different in mind in regards to the crawl-space ducting for my furnace. Raul even came back to troubleshoot for me (something I had thought they had done wrong) for no cost. Turns out it was a strange ducting issue accomplished by a prior contractor which neither of us were aware of. He suggested a simple solution to me, but offered to come back and help if necessary. I had to write a review on Mike because he was so kind and had to come to our home in Lake Arrowhead not just once today but twice. As an interior designer I would not use any other heating company in the area but Wicks Heating (Mike). I always read reviews and can't imagine anyone giving even a mediocre one for this company. They are professional, always on time and courteous. They don't leave till everything is completed. Unfortunately, I had two things that ended up happening the same day, (lucky me). I hired Wick's less than a year ago to install a gas log set. Within the one year warranty the log set stopped working. I tried changing the remote batteries, the receiver batteries, etc. I called Wicks and told Mike I could not get the set to turn on and had tried replacing the batteries and following the manual troubleshooting guide. He didn't mention the second battery box on the phone but instead, he said he would come out the next day. During his five minute visit he pulled out a second battery box hidden under the log set. He replaced the batteries and the log set ignited. He then sent me a $40 invoice claiming that batteries are not part of the warranty service call. Ridiculous. Sadly, that $40 cost Wick's the referral to Buck's Heating and Air and this review. I used Buck's for another property and the service is much better. Based on the number of one star reviews, I think there is a trend with Wick's. read more

So after months of dealing with the worst customer service EVER, incompetent service technicians, and almost 9 days of missed wages due to call outs I've finally had enough and have to write a review! The heater in my home has broken since the winter of 2018, this company has been to my house 4 times to fix the heater, billed my landlord for work and the heater is still broken! After attempting to " fix " it a number of times and billing my landlord for the work THAT DIDNT GET DONE they return again to " fix " it and say the entire heater needs to be replaced smfh. It has now been over 3 months since they initially contacted me in regards to the new heater installation and I've called out of work 9 days including today over the 3 months they have been saying they will be coming by to fix it. Within the last week I have called out 5 of the 9 days only to have them not show up and give poor excuses as to why they aren't coming to fix it on they days THEY SCHEDULED! They like to dodge my and my wife's phone calls from our cellphones, but answer on the first ring when called from my wife's work phone or our home phone. Continue to say a technician will be by tomorrow and then not show up. I wish I could say this was the first time they've exhibited this type of shady behavior but it isn't. In early 2018 my hot water heater stopped working, in this case also they had to have multiple technicians come to assess the problem over several days and attempt to fix it only for the work to have to be redone several times again. Don't waste your money or allow these guys to work on anything in your home! They will take your money for the subpar work they preform over and over again as if they're not the ones doing the GARBAGE work in the first place. Then when they get annoyed over you calling them and telling them the work is no good they will start ignoring your calls all together and/or scheduling appointments when they do answer which they do not show up for after you've already called out of work. If I could give them a zero star rating I would give them a negative 2 stars for work quality, shady business practices, and the worst customer service IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND!!!!! DONT GIVE THESE FOOLS YOUR BUSINESS, BUNCH OF INCOMPETENT IDIOTS WHO CLEARLY DONT HAVE ENOUGH TRAINING!!!!!! UPDATE: after leaving this yelp review and calling and informing them I'd be leaving a bad review everywhere I could do so they showed up almost 5 hours later then the scheduled appointment. My landlord informed us he called them and they said they haven't been showing up because my wife is mean apparently, they were politely asked to leave and return on the newly rescheduled dates of the 15th and 16th like I was told today. FURTHER UPDATE 10/14/19: Today my wife received a text from our landlord ( of course the day before wicks is supposed to come and install the new heater smh ) AND AGAIN THEY HAVE AN EXCUSE AS TO WHY THEY CANT COME AND DO THE INSTALL AS SCHEDULED!!!!! Wicks service was terrific. I called them on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and they were at my house in less than an hour. I had thermostat problems that a "Nest" installer could not figure out. They were efficient and diagnosed the problem in 10 minutes. Parts have been ordered to update my HVAC and I couldn't be more pleased. These guys know their stuff. I am a loyal Yelp user who has greatly benefited from others' reviews so I thought I would make a contribution. First I would like to clarify that I am not a relative or friend of this company. I am a customer who needed her heating units repaired. There aren't too many heating companies that service the area I live in and so we decided to try out Wicks Heating. I read the reviews both on Yelp and Yellow Pages and was very concerned about the negative feedback. But, I decided to go with them because I feel that everyone deserves a chance and that things you read about can be isolated experiences. I am happy to say that I had a 5-star experience with Wicks Heating. Mike and Frankie (the scheduler) were pleasant to speak with all throughout the process. They were very professional in the way they serviced our problem. Mike was on time both for the initial evaluation and the installation of our new heating units. In fact, Mike had training scheduled for that day but because he already committed to us, Frankie re-arranged his schedule to fit ours. It was a really hot day when Mike and Raul arrived but they worked hard and did an excellent job all the way through. We needed (2) filters replaced. They did not have it in stock and ended up ordering and hand-delivering not just (2) but an entire box. We were billed according to what was originally quoted and had no problems with any nickel and diming that some companies use as a strategy. Mike and Raul were very service-oriented. I called the company and the same reckless driver answered and asked if I was in the suburban. He didn't apologize but seem passed off and just hanged up. My landlord has chosen to use this company, I will pay for it myself before this company comes back to my house. The hispanic guy that has been sent here a few times is lacking entirely in customer service skills. He was late repeatedly. Instead of just fixing the heater he critiques my housekeeping skills. Last time they pulled the heater out (which was barely functioning already when I moved in) it took over a week for them to clean it. He complained about having to DO HIS JOB. He later charged my landlord $100 for taking 4 screws out and saying paper got shoved into the heater from outside my house. He Then told my landlord it was my fault, after telling me it wasn't our fault. To top it all off, after the guy MADE ME go vacuum out all the vents (the previous tenants were DISGUSTING) and INSISTED that screws don't need to be put back into the floor vents, and took the screws with him. Well, this morning at about 2am, somehow the vent in my bedroom came off in the night, I was unaware and consequently FELL INTo THE HOLE IN THE FLOOR!!!! Apparently safety is not his concern. I'm not seriously injured, but I have a huge, quite ugly and painful cut and bruise on my arm, and possibly stepped through the heating duct.
