I'm giving three stars because about 3 or 4 years ago, we purchased a cabin in Crestline, and the Furnace was at least 40 years old. Needed to replace it, and Kirk did a great job at a great price. Next, we added a split unit to heat/cool our two upstairs bedrooms. Install was reasonable and it worked well - until it didn't. The business changed owners a few years back, and it's been a struggle to keep the split units working. After some time, Jake came through and fixed our split unit, even adding a surge protector for free. I'm hoping things go smoothly from here. Be aware that surge protection is important on the mountain with all the unplanned outages we face. read more

We experienced unacceptable and inconsistent communication from Jake of Cantrell's during one of the coldest weeks of the year (and Christmas holiday week). For the first part of the week, our furnace heat output temperature would not raise above 65°, and after his visit, as tempertaures dropped outside, indoor temperatures dropped as low as 54°. We told him that cold air was blowing in continuously and the furnace would stop all day long. Jake came to our home and told us a specific part was needed and that he would order it. The last update we received--while nighttime temperatures were dropping into the 30s--was simply that the part had been ordered. After that, there was nothing - for over a week and half. Time passed with no updates, no price quote for the part or installation, and no follow-up of any kind. We were left completely in the dark while living in freezing conditions. Two days ago, we finally called emergency service from ACE HVAC. They drove from Hesperia to Crestline at 8pm, diagnosed the issue, ordered the part the next day, and had it installed that next night. Meanwhile, Jake never even texted us back when we asked him what was happening with the part. Our texts were left on read. Cantrell's installed our furnace/HVAC system just four years ago, and as loyal customers, this level of service is unacceptable. For those of us living in the mountains, reliable HVAC service is not a luxury--it is a necessity. We have limited options due to our location, and companies that serve these areas should understand the responsibility that comes with that. Allowing customers--and their pets--to go without heat for over a week during sub-freezing nights shows a complete lack of urgency, accountability, and basic compassion. We were left waiting with no answers, no transparency, and no courtesy during a situation that should have been treated as an emergency. read more

In 12 years; I've had them solve two heating problems at my home. I'll give you two great examples of the marvelous service, insight and work that I've experienced both times. Back in 2016, the heater at my house wasn't putting out much heat. The owner then was Kirk, and he replaced some parts. After he fixed those parts, some OTHER PARTS BROKE!!!! Kirk came back and realized the problem. I won't get into detail; but he put a new heater in, while DEDUCTING the price for the parts AND LABOR of the first job! On top of that; he knew I had just moved in and was spending tons of money repairing other things. Kirk agreed to let me make 3 payments for the job. That was 2016. Kirk retired. Now, about 3 weeks ago, I was finally tired of the lower level of the house being so darn cold as my gas prices were climbing more and more each year. I called Cantrell again. The new guys were just as professional and insightful. They instantly noticed that the "tubes" (I can't think of the other word for them!) had too small a diameter to pump sufficient air. They also hooked new tubes up for downstairs. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!! MAN, OH MAN is it nice and warm downstairs. I've also noticed that the larger diametered tubes have resulted in the heater not being on as long as before to achieve the desired temperature. The new guys don't accept payments (they obviously take credit cards), but they're professional in every way. They answer the phones, keep in contact, keep their promise of when they're coming to work, then they leave after doing excellent repairs and upgrades. If something goes wrong with my heater or water heater; then Cantrell's is the only place I'm going to call. I bet you'll be just as pleased with them as I am! read more

My wife and I are most happy customers. We sleep better, there is no short cycling, no stress about what to do, and to whom to call. Our neighbor has used Cantrell's for years and is also most happy with their service, knowledge, and pricing. We also found Jake very knowledgeable and was able to repair an oddly nonfunctioning bedroom heater in an attic. The error lights were hinting it needed a new control board. He quickly had it running without any parts and continued to tune it to not short cycle. He also repaired inadequate thermostat wiring. Jake not only was able to prioritize it, got it done same day. Incredible service! Next day we went through two other small heaters. One had bad exhaust plumbing that he and his great helper Mike totally redid. The thermostat wirings were repaired and the units tuned. All three of these efficiency type units were fairly new but installed by a lazy, incompetent subcontractor. We've put up with some of their mistakes, bad warranty rework, and quirky performance for years. We are so happy all three heaters run perfectly now. Jake's pricing was super fair and 20% less than I expected I'd be paying. DO NOT PUT UP WITH QUIRKY HVAC. Call Cantrell's Heating & Air Conditioning now. You will not be disappointed. A side note: I asked Jake about the newer two-stage, variable speed motor, quiet heating units. Jake again was super knowledgeable and helpful. I think it is important to note that I brought the subject up and Jake wasn't trying to sell me something. The attic heater over a second bedroom is really loud and we'll be saving to get at least one of these modern units because currently, gas heaters will most likely no longer be available in 2030. And yes, we'll procure and have installation done by Jake. I know a guy. read more

We initially called another company. Their tech came out and informed me that the furnace needed to be replaced due to its age, and the capacitor being burnt out. This tech couldn't even answer a simple question such as the cost of the new furnace. It got so bad that I told him to leave. Thereafter, I immediately called and spoke with Jake from Cantrell's Heating and Air Conditioning. I told him what occurred. Jake was exceptionally kind. He knew about the frigid weather and he was willing to service the heater that evening. I was expecting the worst. However, Jake told me that he found that there was nothing wrong with the capacitor or the furnace. He did find that the filter was clogged and that the thermostat settings needed to be adjusted. Jake was able to have the house that was at 46 degrees to a nice warm temperature. It's hard to find people who have the professionalism and integrity of Jake. This is why we will have Cantrell's Heating & Air Conditioning as our service provider for the future. read more

More praise for Jake and his crew! I arrived in Arrowhead on a Friday afternoon in December with a houseful of guests. The heater worked for a while, then quit. It was cold! Called them about 6 months ago to replace my thermostat and it broke just recently. I called them back and they told me carbon monoxide was blowing into my house, they recommended I clean the vent pipe. I called them back because they said they could do it and then nothing. I got ghosted by them. Sounds like typical business on this mountain. Mind you I was charged 250 dollars for a 30 dollar thermostat. read more

Our furnace stopped blowing so I called Cantrell's. Jake came by and fixed the issue within a few minutes. We started talking about a mini split for my 2nd floor since we only have a portable air conditioner or a space heater. He quoted us and we quickly said yes to a mini split. It would be installed the next day. Jake and his teammate showed up on time as promised and installed the mini split over our window and even hid the line and fan very well so they are not very noticeable from the street. When they were finished, Jake taught us how to use the remote. They cleaned the areas they worked in and removed all trash created from the work. I'm totally on board with Cantrell's Heating and AC. Got a visit from Greg who broke the news that my heater was unsafe, demonstrating the start-up process and how the flames reacted once the blower kicked in. He then legally had to disconnect the unit. I witnessed how the flames were outta control; the flames burnt-out one of four sensors (forgot what they're called) that ultimately led to the appliance failing to function. Dude was totally chill, totally helpful with alternatives, good at staying in touch about when he'd be there, easygoing, wore a mask, and cut me a little break on the visit price. Unfortunately, this company was a recommendation from a handyman who has worked for us. The initial appointment went fine. They could not perform the work for a month. Okay with that. When the scheduled appointment was two days away, I received a call saying they needed to reschedule. Not happy, but accepted the delay. The reschedule date was 10 days later. On that day, no show, no call. I left a voicemail for the technician and owner, but to date have not received a call back. I understand there are a lot of flakey tradesmen and companies, on the mountain, however, I didn't think this company was in that category. Obviously, I was mistaken. read more

Furnace went out Tuesday night. Found Cantrell's on-line, read some reviews and called. Kirk came up Wednesday mid-morning. Fixed the furnace by replacing a couple parts and serviced it during that time. I was going to replace my thermostat with one of those new Nest ones so I asked Kirk to do it for me. I'm pretty good at taking a 30 minute job and making it a couple of hours job so it was well worth it to me. It took him less than 30 minutes to install and setup. The furnace is running better than I ever remember it running these past three and a half years. I'm pleased that I called Cantrell's and I will definitely call them again when the time comes. What a wonderful experience. A man named Greg came out to service our AC unit and we had a great experience with him. We are usually reluctant to have any AC companies come out and service our unit as we have had some pretty bad experiences but not with Cantrell's. Last year our furnace was having problems at our rental property. Called Cantrell's and they were quick to repose and diagnose the problem. They replaced a couple of parts on the furnace but did tell us that the furnace was on it's last leg and may fail again. Unfortunately it did fail within a few days but Cantrell's came back out and replaced the furnace for a reasonable price. They also gave us a refund for the parts used on the old furnace. My family went up to our house in Lake Arrowhead for New Years. Upon arrival we realized the furnace was not turning on and outside temps were getting down to 16-18*F.
